However, because we are a reasonable species, we are going to give you one chance to redeem yourselves. If you can really show us that you truly understand what is special about your countries and all its inhabitants, and explain to us how you plan to take care of it. We may decide to spare you. You will need to create delegations from each of these countries to create a presentation to persuade us to allow each of your countries to survive unharmed. Geographic Team Responsibilities Essential Question: So why would this particular country and its people be worth saving? This is the sort of information that the aliens are going to want to see. You will each work to prepare one important presentation. Each country will need to select a delegation of 3-4 expert Geographers to represent them in the presentation to the aliens. The presentation must not exceed five minutes in length. Landscape: What are the land, climate, and water like over there? How does the landscape impact how people live there? What will people see in this place that they won t see in Colorado for example? What has been preserved? Are the plants and animals there happy and healthy? History: What is the history of the country i.e. origins, conflicts and cooperation? WWII? Government and economics? What about the standard of living? What historical sites would people be able to visit? Culture: What are the people like over there? What do they speak? How do they dress? What do they believe? What do they do for fun? What do they eat? What are school / work like? How long do they live on average? What level of education do they have? Are they happy? Government and Economics: What economic activities keep this place going? Think agriculture, industry, and service. What is their money called and what is the current exchange rate with the U.S. dollar? What type of government do they have? Who is the current leader? Is the country stable? Current Events: what current issues / challenges are being faced? How are they dealing with them? What connections are there between this place and other parts of the world?
Plan of Action 1. Meet with your group to get organized and make a plan: choose a project leader; set goals for your project (what by when?) use the blank calendar provided by Mr. Ream. 2. Each student should then establish a concept and central question for their part of the project. 3. Go to library to do research / take notes on your topic 4. Do some writing on your topic answering the questions provided and coming up with some of your own. Generate ideas for presenting your information in a creative way. 5.
