Charlotte, Michigan Friday, July 20, 2018 -- 11:10 a.m. The matter of the State of Michigan versus Taylor Renee Prahl, P-R-A-H-L dash S-I- X. This is felony complaint number 2018-002599. Have you state your first name and spell your last name for the record. DETECTIVE JOHNSON: Theodore Johnson, J-O-H- N-S-O-N. Would you raise your right hand? Do you swear that the information you re about to provide to this court is true to the best of your knowledge, information and belief? DETECTIVE JOHNSON: Yes. (At 11:10 a.m. witness sworn) You may proceed. On July 3rd, 2018 I responded to Sparrow Hospital to investigate a child abuse complaint. I spoke with Dr. Guertin, who told me that two month old Braxton Prahl was admitted into ICU. He discovered two brain bleeds, one old, one new, and a skull fracture. The accused, the defendant, Taylor Prahl, is 3

the mom. And later the MRI showed that there was blood in the spinal cord, which was suggestive of shaken baby syndrome. And we interviewed Taylor Prahl later that afternoon, she confessed to us that on a couple of occasions she had thrown Braxton into a pack and play forcefully out of frustration. She later took a polygraph on July 12th and confessed to Sergeant Horan that she had actually shaken Braxton on a couple of occasions, threw him in the pack and play out of frustration, which possibly causing injuries to Braxton. All that occurred around June of 2018? Yes. The old brain bleed and the new brain bleed, the old one she confessed probably happened in the middle of June sometime when she first got frustrated with Braxton. And then the most recent one was early July when she got frustrated with Braxton, shook him and then forcefully threw him in the pack and play. And she resides in the County of Eaton, City of Eaton Rapids? Not in the city, but out in the 4

out county on Bellevue Highway, I believe, still. Over by Olivet. Yeah. Well, based on that, I do find there is probable cause to sign a felony complaint; so I m gonna do that today. Today being July 20th. Is she in custody right now? No. She s on her way in. So she ll probably be arraigned today? I would think so. I m the Friday at 5:00 person, so I ll be here all day. Oh, okay. So I ll just -- I won t do an interim bond right now, I ll assume that we can get her arraigned today. Yeah. She should be...... comin in pretty soon. All right. And then if you end up needing an 5

interim bond, just let me know. Yeah, if she fails to show. Yeah, maybe I ll just put one on there just in case. I mean, we -- she, she s supposed to be on her way down from the hospital, so if -- we can just come back over if she doesn t show by 3:00 or 4:00 o clock. I ll just put an interim one on here, cause then the clerks would probably feel more comfortable with that. Cause they don t want us to be doing new arraignments after 4:30. So just in case, for some reason, or it s after 4:30 or this weekend, I put a 50,000 as interim, so that s cash only. Mm-kay. Perfect. All right. (At 11:13 a.m. proceedings concluded) 6
