Savannah First Baptist Church 500 East Pawnee Savannah, MO 64485 RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED Non-Profit Organization U.S. Postage Paid Permit #45 Savannah, MO 64485 The Blessings of Forgiveness By Julie Hufstetler Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:31-32 NIV We all say and do stupid things sometimes. Generalizing the human condition like that helps me not to take things so personally. Everyone has an off day at times. I value friends who will remember that about me, and I afford them the same consideration. But what about those times when someone does attack us personally? How do you just let it go? This happened to me one evening in the form of an e-mail. I was enraged and felt falsely accused. To burn off some bad energy, I headed outside for a walk. As I stomped down the road, I saw something lying in the gravel. It was the bottom half of a dirty plastic miniature Barbie-like doll. The thought immediately came to me, Don t lose your head! I picked her up and took her home with me and set her on my desk as a reminder to not let myself get so upset that I end up broken and useless. Forgiveness is a gift to us. It doesn t mean that what the offender did was okay. It doesn t mean we are weak. In fact, sometimes it takes a lot of strength to forgive someone who has wronged you. What it does mean is that we can go on with our lives without hanging on to bitterness, rage, and anger. From Blessings for a Woman s Heart Devotional Journal, published by Barbour Publishing, Inc. Used by permission. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened. Ephesians 1:18 Connecting Building Sharing Volume 57 August 22, 2018 Issue 17 OUR MISSION: To connect people to God and connect people to each other to produce powerful, positive life Change
