Charles Dickens Over the course of his writing career, he wrote the beloved classic novels Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, Nicholas Nickleby,David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations. On June 9, 1870, Dickens died of a stroke in Kent, England, leaving his final novel, The Mystery of Edwin I never could have done Drood, unfinished. what I have done without the habits of punctuality, order, and diligence, without the determination to concentrate myself on one subject at a time. ---Charles Dickens

Friedrich Nietzsche Believed that religion was worthless in an age of moral change and scientific discovery. Nietzsche felt that the West would shun its Christian faith and chaos would ensue. He believed that people should strive to be superman (powerful human beings) and would have power over inferior people. Nietzsche was part of the existentialist movement and was the father of nihilism, no ultimate meaning to human existence. Was generally pessimistic but had a few optimistic points. That which does not kill us makes us stronger.

Marie Curie 1867-1934 French physicist invented radioactivity- emission of radiation caused by disintegration of atomic nuclei which led to the discovery of polonium, radium and development of xrays first woman to win a Nobel Prize won Nobel Prize twice- in Physics and Chemistry I believe that science has great beauty. A scientist in his laboratory is not a mere technician; he is also a child confronting natural phenomena that impress him as though they were fairy tales.

MAX PLANCK 1858-1947 Tried to increase the amount of light in light bulbs with his discovery of black body radiation which is how many energy is given off by anything that is black. Came up with quantum physics trying to solve the black body radiation problem. Thought it had to be a wave/particle at the same time to use the theories units of physics (Planck constant, Planck mass)

Cecil B Rhodes 5 July 1853 26 March 1902 A British businessman, mining magnate, and politician in South Africa. A strong believer in British colonialism, Rhodes was the founder of the southern African territory of Rhodesia. Cecil owned a monopoly on diamond production and distribution in south africa to maintain high diamond prices, making him a very wealthy man in turn.

Henry Ford An American industrialist, he was the founder of the Ford Motor Company. Largely known for the development of the assembly line technique of mass production. He revolutionized the twentieth century because he made automobiles available to the working class at cheaper costs. You can't build a reputation on what you are going to do.

Michael Faraday An English scientist who contributed in the fields of electrochemistry and electromagnetism, his best known discoveries being electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism, and electrosys. Nothing is too wonderful to be true, if it be consistent with the laws of nature.

Nikola Tesla A Serbian American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and futurist known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current electricity supply system. In the twenty-first century, the robot will take the place which slave labor occupied in ancient civilization.

PT Barnum American showman and businessman who was known to promote hoaxes. Served two terms in the Connecticut Congress but left politics for business. Founded Barnum & Bailey Circus in 1870 and bought Jumbo, the famous elephant from the London Zoo. His business practices remain widely used today and stands as an example as American spirit and ingenuity. The Greatest Show on Earth!
