From The Pastor s Pen Susan V. Mills On my journey toward the cross of Christ this Lenten season my heart and spirit were stirred by Pope Francis call to all Christians: If we are going to fast from anything this Lent, even more than candy or alcohol, may we fast from indifference to others. Besides indifference, I wondered, what else might I need to fast from this Lenten season? We had recently explored the practice of Spiritual Breathing during one of our sermons confessing our sins as admonished in 1John 1:9, and then replacing the void with attributes Christ desires to see come to light in us. I have taken my list and overlaid it on a picture taken in the Holy Land during my time in the wilderness. What might Christ be calling you to fast or feast on this Lenten season? May we walk as Children of Light this Lent Pastor Susan V. Mills Fast from Criticism Feast on Praise Fast from Self-pity Feast on Joy Fast from Ill-temper Feast on Peace Fast from Resentment Feast on Contentment Fast from Lack of Caring Feast on Love Fast from Pride Feast on Humility Music Notes Marcia Wilcox The combined choirs of the Waldport and Yachats Presbyterian Churches invite you to attend a Good Friday service at the Waldport Presbyterian Church starting at 7:00pm on March 25th. The service We Remember Calvary by Joel Raney, is a poignant service depicting Christ and his journey to the cross through music with narration by Reverend Bob Barrett of Yachats Presbyterian Church. This service is designed to recreate the emotional and spiritual aspects of the passion story. Both contemporary and traditional songs and hymns are combined with congregational singing, scripture reading and narration to paint a vivid and moving picture of Christ s last days. Page 2

Session Highlights Barbara Hare, Clerk of Session HIGHLIGHTS OF STATED SESSION MEETING February 18, 2016 Communion was served to 40 people on first Sunday, February 7, 2016. Communion was served on Ash Wednesday, February 10th, to 25. Average worship attendance in February was 33. Prospective new members Ed Peterson and Lyle Seaman were presented and approved for membership by the Elders. Elder Tom Rasmussen is researching a new sound system for the Sanctuary that will best meet our needs and fit our budget. BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE CAMPAIGN Eric Seaman Finance Elder Over that last several years we have made significant changes to our building. We have a new heating system, a new kitchen, and now a new roof. Much of the funding for these has come from grants and fundraisers. But that hasn t been enough. We have had to draw upon our own reserves to pay the balance. We have been fortunate that those who came before us had the foresight to leave us some investment money. Now we have a moral obligation to those who come after us to rebuild those reserves. At our annual business meeting, we asked for pledges to help rebuild the reserves. I am gratified to inform you that we have received pledges for over $5000 for this calendar year. EDUCATION COMMITTEE Judy Carey, our CE Elder is forming an Educational Committee. This Committee will meet the 4 th Thursday of every month at 10:00am in the Guild Room. The Committee will be responsible for coordinating and unifying the educational programs and activities of the church into an integrated and effective ministry. The Committee shall help provide a wide variety of Christ-centered learning experiences, which explore the Christian faith. These programs shall strive to teach the Word of God, strengthen faith, and help nurture the congregation both adults and children in their daily witness. The next meeting will be Thursday March 24 th at 10:00 in the Guild Room. All those who would like to be a part of this Committee are welcome. Page 4
