We have a couple events coming up that you need to be aware of. On June 14 th is our Jurisdiction Sports Day at Pearson Park in Anaheim. We will also be having our League Vs. League Jurisdiction Ultimate Frisbee tournament that day so make sure to bring out the guys from your league to make a team! That day is also when we will be announcing the candidates for next year. Also coming up on July 19 th is our Jurisdiction Sweethearts Ball. It will be at the Long Beach Scottish Rite. Cost is $10 per person. I hope to see all of you there supporting the Jurisdiction and League Sweethearts. There are installations going on all over the jurisdiction and I hope you all are going out to those to show support to your brothers. A few of the Jurisdiction Officer's receptions are also coming up and I hope you go out to those and show the Officers how much you appreciate the work they have put in this year. My brothers, our enthusiasm and participation for events has severely plummeted this year. I challenge each of you to go out and support chapters around the jurisdiction and support your brothers at their meetings, their fundraisers, and their installations. We need to show our brothers how much they mean to us. Remember guys you get out of DeMolay what you put in, so go out their and get as active as you possibly can and get as much out of DeMolay as possible. Thank you, Michael Hannum Hello SCJ, S C J D E P U T Y MASTER C O U N C I L O R Installation Season has just concluded in SCJ, and summer is about to begin! For this year, Southern California Jurisdiction will be experiencing 123 majorities. To attain positive growth, we need to initiate 124 members. Seeing as we initiated 169 young men last year, I strongly believe that we can attain a sixth consecutive year of positive growth!remember to have your Chapter Chairman submit the form 10 of each new initiate to DeMolay International, so that they can count towards our membership goal. As of April25 th, 2014, SCJ has initiated 44 young men into our order. That is a fair number, but I know that we can help more young men experience what DeMolay has to offer. So talk to your friends, cousins, neighbors, or anyone else that you think would be a good fit in DeMolay. Congratulations to the Chapters that had Installations in the month of May! I look forward to working with all of the new officers. This summer is packed full of activities, so make sure to have as much fun as possible. Fraternally, Tyler Davis

SCJ CONGRESS SECRETA RY SCJ! As we move into June I could not be more proud of this Jurisdiction. We as a unit are growing stronger by the day, and continuing this great youth movement of DeMolay! Keep up the good work, and lets boost our enthusiasm as we push forward to attain positive growth, and an amazing final stretch of this SCJ Year. I look forward to seeing everyone throughout the Jurisdiction, and as always. Page 10 From The Jurisdiction Dad... June 2014 Greetings, SCJ! It s hard to believe that the deadline for Letters of Intent to run for League, Priory, and Jurisdiction office has come and gone. The first 3 months of this term passed relatively slowly for me. But ever since the first of the year it has flown by. While 2014 is not quite half way through, the term is 75 percent complete. I had the honor of attending the Grand York Rite Banquet on May 17 th. Ryan Tondares, Illustrious Knight Commander for St. Bernard Priory, gave a great speech updating the York Rite on SCJ and the Priories success. Jacob Hanson, Squire Commander, did an outstanding job performing the Flower Talk. As we get ready for the summer to start, I would like to remind everyone that some of the greatest memories you can make in DeMolay is when you travel. You ll meet new people, make new friends and brothers and maybe even go someplace for the first time. Friendships are strengthened because you learn more about the people traveling with you, and they learn more about you. As campaigning starts, you should ask one (or more) of the candidates if they would like some company while they journey throughout the jurisdiction. Try it. It s a unique experience. Summer means that Sports Day is fast approaching on Sunday, June 14 th starting at 8:30 at Pearson Park in Anaheim. Of course, it also means that candidate announcements will be made on that day, too. I hope to see all of you there on this important day. Obviously there are many other events coming up for SCJ at which I hope to see everyone, Sweethearts Balls, Honors Nights, Conclave, Softball, Over the Line, just to name a few. Bring prospects, family and friends. All are welcome. Speaking of Conclave, you can register online at the SCJ website. Registering early and paying for Conclave in full (before the first deadline) will get you a T-shirt designed specifically for Conclave. Does anyone know where we stand at membership for the year, so far? All of us should be ready to answer that question. How about, does everyone know how many new members we need to achieve positive growth? Or, how close are we to getting to the 1,000 members mark? As we get closer to end of the term, and the year, we ll be speaking more and more about this very important topic. It s up to all of us to work together to ensure the continued growth and success of Southern California DeMolay. You may be asking What can I do?. The answer is simple: A lot, even if it is simply showing your enthusiasm for the Order. That can be a powerful tool to show friends how you feel about the fraternity. When they see how much fun you re having, how much good you re doing for the community, and for charity, they ll want to be a part of it. I want to wish all candidates the best of luck over the next few weeks. Be safe. Leave early to ensure you arrive on time. Get your rest, remember this is a marathon, not a sprint. And most importantly, when you re behind the wheel, keep your concentration there. Don t text, don t talk on the phone (without a hands free), drive in shifts and stop if you get tired. Your safety is our top priority! Lastly, in case some of you did not know, Traci Brown Austin, a past SCJ Princess, passed away a few days ago from a lingering illness. She fought courageously and quietly and showed all around her what the true definition of strength and dignity are. Although I did not know her as well as some, we were friends. And I will miss her. Who are we? We are DeMolay! Let s Go! From The Jurisdiction Mom Hello SCJ: First of all I would like to congratulate all the Leagues that have already had their Sweethearts Ball, as very successful events. I m looking forward to the last few and then SCJ will wrap up with ours as the end of the season. On that note, we need to finish up with all the SCJ fundraiser projects. We need your calendar money and sucker money turned in. We will also start our Garter Sales on Sports Day, so make sure you have your baskets, candy, and garters ready to go. I will provide all of your tickets, so you do not need to buy any. If you or your leage already have some, that will work as well. I would like to offer my Good Luck Wishes to all the Candidates who are running for an office this year. Whether it is for League, Priory, or even Jurisdiction. Remember, you are still DeMolay s, and it is for the good of the order. As we are quickly coming up upon Honors Night, all material need to be turned into me by June 15 th, is order to receive on your League Honors Night. Anything received after that date, will be awarded next year Honors Night 2015. We are not going to hand out any awards at Conclave this year. Remember that the Jurisdiction next P.S.A. will be at the Covina Masonic Homes, on June 7 th, at 11:00 am in the training room. If you plan on attending the Grand Master s Pinic, you will need to bring $5.00 for lunch. Hope to see everyone soon, Safe travels in your campaigning, and travel with a buddy. DeMolay Hugs and Sweetheart Love Mom Harlan

The Preceptor FROM THE E.O... To My DeMolay Family, It s hard to believe that Sport s day is upon us, which is when we get the entire Jurisdiction together for a GREAT Day of Fun, Food and Brotherhood! We ll also be announcing the candidates that will be running for elected office; and officially begins the campaigning season for the 2014-2015 SCJ Officers. I invite every DeMolay, Advisor, Family and Friends to come out and enjoy this special day with us. Page 11 On the membership front, We are presently in 3rd place in all of ISC and one third of the way to reaching positive membership growth for the sixth year in a row, We still need an additional 81 new members to make it happen. Overall the Jurisdiction has been slowing down, this in itself is not good, but I m hoping that our present Jurisdiction Officers, with a little encouragement, will work extra hard during the Summer months in order to get SCJ back on top of membership where it belongs!! The Summer months is also the start of the Relay For Life Season! Let s make sure that every Chapter or League in SCJ works together to participate in and assist in raising money to combat Cancer. Also during those hot days, when we re outdoors having fun enjoying Barbequing and spending time with family and friends; let s remember those that are less fortunate than ourselves and offer your services at places like the Red Cross, the Midnight Mission, Senior Centers, etc Videos wanted: If you have video clips from any Jurisdiction, League or Chapter function, that reflects what SCJ De- Molay is all about, please share it with us. We need video clips and articles for the Website. We want to create a 1 minute high quality video that shows who we are to the entire world, but especially to all of our local schools. I like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the Officers of the Grand Lodge of California, for allowing the assistant Grand Secretary, worshipful James Banta, to give our SCJ Senior Staff a tour of all of the tools available with the use of the professional WebEx conferencing platform. Brother Banta, spent 2 hours of his own time on a show & tell demonstration, explaining most of the capabilities & possible uses of this powerful business tool. We were amazed by all of the Training and meeting possibilities that this service would place into our hands. I m always making the statement, we have the technology, so let s use it! Well, this video conferencing platform will certainly take SCJ well into the 21 st Century! With real Face to Face specialized Training, either privately or in large groups. In closing, let s all remember that as the campaigning season starts, we ll have several of our young folks driving around the southland at night. Please, make sure that when they visit your Chapter they get something to eat and drink. I want to thank you in advance for helping our youth. Please remember, as always, NEVER TEXT while DRIVING!!! Fraternally, Just Dad Key
