Window glass, light bulbs, and drinking glasses are NOT recyclable because they do not melt at the same temperature as container glass. Therefore any other glass besides container glass is considered contaminant and should not be placed in the recycling at the rural sites. Grass Clippings hosts two yard waste recycling centers, one in Greencastle the other in Rockville that are designed to accommodate some types of yard waste. Backyard composting should be the first measure taken for such debris. However, some yards are not very accommodating and so yard waste sites are available. Grass clipping should be left on the ground by means of a mulching mower whenever possible. Valuable nutrients are taken from the soil when grass clipping are bagged up. The same can be said of leaves. Alas, many people are not agreeable to this type of lawn management. However you care for your lawn, please take care not to put yard waste into the regular trash, landfills are filling so quickly they cannot accept yard waste too. "The quality, not the longevity, of one's life is what is important." ~Dr. Martin Luther King Jr ~

To cut back on this waste of paper and landfill space, you can reduce the amount of junk mail you receive. Step 1 When donating money, entering a contest, sending in a warranty card or purchasing something through the mail write no mailing lists on your check or money order. Step 2 Call the toll-free numbers on unwanted catalogs and ask to be removed from their mailing lists. Ask to be sent fewer catalogs of the ones you want. Think Green: There is only one earth. Page 14 Eventually we'll realize that if we destroy the ecosystem, we destroy ourselves." Jonas Salk, American physician and microbiologist, 1914-95 Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. ~Chief Seattle, 1855~ A locally owned business is where the community member has full autonomy and local decision-making authority with respect to his or her business practices. When needs are met locally by locally owned enterprises, people have greater control over their lives, money is recycled in the community rather than leaking off into the global financial casino, jobs are more secure, economies are more stable, and there are the means and the incentives to protect the environment and to build the relationships of mutual trust and responsibility that are the foundation of community.
