LORD S DAY April 8, 2018 COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH A Congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America Dr. Ron Gonzales, Minister Office: 5 W Alder St, Ste 237 Walla Walla, WA 99362 (509) 522-1020 Email: office@covenantwallawalla.org

Upon entering the sanctuary, please be sensitive to the congregation s preparation for worship, and please make sure all electronic devises are turned off or set to silent mode. -DRAWING NEAR TO GOD- Welcome and Silent Prayer Father, your mercies have brought us to the dawn of another Lord s Day. Vain will be its gift unless we know you, love you, and admire you more fully. Allow us to do so, O Lord, knowing that the ability to worship is not in us, but in your enabling love. Lead us and tend us by the hand of the Good Shepherd himself. Amen. *Call to Worship Psalm 95.1-7 *Prayer of Adoration *Song of Praise to God Hymn No. 119 I SING THE ALMIGHTY POWER OF GOD -HAVING OUR HEARTS CLEANSED- Confession of Sin O Lord God, the heavens declare your glory, the earth your riches. We thank you for the treasures given us in Jesus; for the unclouded revelation of him in your Word, where we behold his character, grace and glory, as well as his sufferings, death and resurrection. We come to you in his all-prevailing name, with nothing of our own to plead: no works, no worthiness, no promises. We are often straying, often knowingly opposing your authority, often abusing your goodness. Impress us deeply with a sense of your presence; that you are about our paths, our ways, our lying down, and our end. Subdue in us the love of sin, and let us know the need of renewal as well as forgiveness; that we may wholeheartedly serve and enjoy you forever. This we ask in Christ s name. Amen. Silently Add Your Own Confession of Sin

Assurance of Pardon Isaiah 55.6-7 *Song of Praise to Christ Hymn No. 166 WONDROUS KING, ALL-GLORIOUS *Confession of Faith Can anyone keep the law of God perfectly? Since the fall, no mere human has been able to keep the law of God perfectly, but consistently breaks it in thought, word, and deed. 1 Did God create us unable to keep his law? No, but because of the disobedience of our first parents, Adam and Eve, all of creation is fallen; we are all born in sin and guilt, corrupt in our nature and unable to keep God s law. 2 The New City Catechism, Nos. 13-14 Prayer for the Church and the World 1 None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one (Rom 3.10-12). 2 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned (Rom 5.12).

-ATTENDING TO THE WORD- Scripture Lesson Song of Songs 8.8-14 Sermon Belonging to the King Rev. Ron Gonzales *Song of Response *Hymn No. 324 CHRIST IS COMING! Worship of God with Tithes and Offerings *DOXOLOGY Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Words Thomas Ken, 1709; music Genevan Psalter, 1551; Public Domain

-OBSERVING THE SACRAMENT- The Lord s Supper We celebrate the Lord s Supper by coming forward and partaking of the bread and the cup. Wine is served in the inner ring of each tray; grape juice in the outer ring. We warmly invite to the Table all baptized Christians, who are living under the authority of Christ and his Church. By eating the bread and drinking of the cup, you are admitting that you are a sinner, without hope except in the sovereign mercy of God, and that you are trusting in Christ alone for salvation. If this does not describe you, we are glad you are here and commend to you the following prayers for your use during this time. A Prayer for those Searching for the Truth Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. Guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing, and leads to the life you promise. Amen. A Prayer of Belief Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever believed, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross, and offering forgiveness and new life. I turn from my sins and receive you as Savior and Lord. Amen. A Prayer for those Struggling with Sin Lord Jesus, grant that I may see in you the fulfillment of all my need and may turn from every false pleasure to feed on you, the true and living bread. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely, and run with perseverance the race set before me, looking to you, the author and perfecter of my faith. Amen. *Song of Thanksgiving Hymn No. 642 BE THOU MY VISION

-GOING FORTH TO SERVE- *Benediction Numbers 6.24-26 Postlude and Silent Prayer Grant us, O Lord, each day, to hunger for you more than anything else; and in so doing to discover the life for which we were created. Amen. *Please stand if able. This emblem expresses the Christian doctrine of the triunity of Almighty God, a truth taught in Scripture and affirmed by the Council of Constantinople in AD 381.
