November 2016 Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church The Faith Lutheran Newsletter is a monthly publication of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, a congregation of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Volume 7 Issue 11 From Pastor Scudder s Desk Weekly Schedule: & Adult Bible Study D & T Classes Sundays 11:00am Confirmation classes Wednesdays @ 6:00-5th & 7th grade Thursday Men s Bible Study Special Activities: Board of Ed. November 7 @ Church Council November 8 @ Board of Elders November 10 @ Lutheran Hour 7 a.m. Sunday KILJ FM 105.5 KOKX 95.3 10:30 a.m. I have the privilege of conducting a brief chapel service once a week for each of the 2 groups at Faith Lutheran Church s SonShine Academy preschool. The last time that I did it I used Psalm 119:105 as a text. Thy Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. With deer season fast approaching, I told the story of how I have a long, dark walk from where the truck is parked to where my stand is and I ask if there was anything that I should take with me. Hoping, and expecting to hear, A flashlight, I was a little surprised when one of the little boys piped-up and said, A gun! But it did remind me of St. Paul s words about putting on the full armor of God, that we might be defended against the attacks of the Devil. While the picture of a gun is not presented in St. Paul s letter to the Ephesians it does remind us that we are living in an untamed world and that the Word of God is our sole defense against Satan s wiles. Yes, God s word is a lamp to out feet and a light for our path; but it is also the Sword of the Spirit with which we can extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one! Recharge those batteries often and make sure that sword is sharp! In this month of Thanksgiving, give thanks for all the blessings God has showered upon you but most of all, give thanks for the blessing & gift of your salvation, which our loving Heavenly Father has freely given through Jesus Christ. The Lord be with you!... Amen. Pastor Scudder Lutheran L s Meeting November 9 @11:30am At the home of Roberta Statler-Meierotto 905 S. Harrison Pl. Mt. Pleasant, IA Luncheon Bible Study with Pastor Scudder Being thankful when it s tough If you know of someone going through a tough time-invite them to join us. If you are planning on coming please let either Janette Ross 986-5592 or Roberta 385-1114 or Paulette 385-8340 know. Thank you. What do you Say? What do you Do? All that is necessary is a squeeze of the hand, a hug, your being there. If you want to say something, say I m sorry or I wish that I could take your pain away. But most of all just listen to me, be a friend and just listen Don t give advice unless I ask Don t do for me the things I can and should do for myself if you want, just work with me and help, but don t take over unless I ask. Just listen to me, Let me cry, yell, complain, get angry, but most of all just be there and LISTEN! Author Unknown

We can only accomplish this through the power of God and His Word. Martin Luther understood the importance of parents teaching children. Luther s small catechism, designed to help parents teach the Bible to their children, was the new technology of the day a sort of Reformation app for teaching the faith. Parents, how can you increase the opportunities for faith conversation in the day to day life of your family? Family devotions, even once a week, will increase faith interaction. What about a faith question of Please include in your prayers this month October Grace Calhoun daughter of Chad and Liz Aiden Sutter son of Lamont and Jodi Silas Shepherd son of Greg and Aimee Allison Cargill daughter of Garrett and Jenna Each week there will be a family listed in the bulletin these are Son Shine families, please add them to your prayer list. the day offered by parent of child? Perhaps you could create a tradition of discussing church and Sunday school during Sunday lunch. The more question you ask and discuss, the more you will change your child s brain to strengthen thinking about faith. As you bring the Scriptures to bear and teach of Christ and His salvation, God will bless your faith conversations with your children. What habits in your family life detract from this kind of interaction? Be sure to examine your family s use of technology to ensure that you are not using it to avoid conversation. Take care with your phone use while you are with your children. Brainbuilding interaction rarely happens on social media. A big thank you to all who donated items and attended the ice cream social! Everyone had a great time! November 7-10 we will hold our first parent-teacher conferences. Also, in the PreK class, we will have our annual Thanksgiving Feast. The PreK class are the Indians, and they are allowed to invite one Pilgrim to our Feast. We will play games, make crafts, and of course have a feast. There will be NO SCHOOL Wednesday, November 23-Friday, Thank you for you continued support of the SonShine script program. When you purchase the Hy Vee Gift Cards & Certificates, the preschool will receive 10% for the shopping cards, & 15% for the certificates. Someone from the preschool board will be selling the cards and certificates after church, each Sunday, or you can stop in at the office Monday thru Thursday 8:00 am Noon.

The puppet will do whatever you want it to do because it is on your hand. You are moving it, talking for it, and making it sit, stand and dance. Well, when God made Adam, He didn t want him to be a puppet, but He wanted Adam to truly love Him. The command about the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was God s test to see if Adam really did love God enough to totally obey Him. But Adam failed the test. He sinned against God and did something God told him not to do. This was a very bad day for all of us because Adam was the head of the whole human race the very first man. When he failed God s test, he brought sin into the world, and now all of us have the same sin nature from Adam. Next months question: If all that God created was good, how could Satan be bad?
