Putting first things first Hymn of the week (at start of assembly: Give me oil in my lamp.) To end: Never Give up Yolanda Adams. Never give up (Yolanda Adams) Visions that can change the world trapped inside an ordinary girl She looks just like me too afraid to dream out loud And though it's simple, your idea, it won't make sense to everybody You need courage now, if you're gonna persevere To fulfill divine purpose, you gotta answer when you're called So don't be afraid to face the world against all odds Keep the dream alive, don't let it die If something deep inside keeps inspiring you to try, don't stop Don't give up Every victory comes in time, work today to change tomorrow It gets easier, who's to say that you can't fly? Every step you take you get closer to your destination You can feel it now, don't you know you're almost there? To fulfill divine purpose, you gotta answer when you're called So don't be afraid to face the world against all odds Keep the dream alive, don't let it die If something deep inside keeps inspiring you to try, don't stop Sometimes life can place a stumbling block in your way But you gotta keep the faith Bring what's deep inside your heart to the light Don't give up Who holds the pieces to complete the puzzle? The answer that can solve a mystery, yeah The key that can unlock your understanding It's all inside of you, you have everything you need, yeah

So, keep the dream alive, don't let it die If something deep inside, keeps inspiring you to try, don't stop Sometimes life can place a stumbling block in your way But you gotta keep the faith Bring what's deep inside your heart, yeah your heart to the light (Give up) No, don't give up No, no, no, no (Don't give up) Don't give up, give up No, no, no, no don't give up Songwriters Harris Iii, James Samuel / Lewis, Terry / Wright, James Quenton / Adams, Yolanda Yvette Published by Lyrics EMI Music Publishing, Universal Music Publishing Group Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0et-zyoklw This has the lyrics. Overview Habit 3: Put First Things First To live a more balanced existence, you have to recognize that not doing everything that comes along is okay. There's no need to overextend yourself. All it takes is realizing that it's all right to say no when necessary and then focus on your highest priorities. Habit 1 says, "You're in charge. You're the creator." Being proactive is about choice. Habit 2 is the first, or mental, creation. Beginning with the End in Mind is about vision. Habit 3 is the second creation, the physical creation. This habit is where Habits 1 and 2 come together. It happens day in and day out, moment-by-moment. It deals with many of the questions addressed in the field of time management. But that's not all it's about. Habit 3 is about life management as well--your purpose, values, roles, and priorities. What are "first things?" First things are those things you, personally, find of most worth. If you put first things first, you are organizing and managing time and events according to the personal priorities you established in Habit 2. Monday 27 Mrs Dassrath Introduction of habit 3 Put first things First. You can use the overview, or prepare another relevant reflection. Some great quotes on time management: http://www.famous-motivationalquotes.com/time-management.html Reading: Matthew2 Chapter 25 1 'Then the kingdom of Heaven will be like this: Ten wedding attendants took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were sensible: 3 the foolish ones, though they took their lamps, took no oil with them, 4 whereas the sensible ones took flasks of oil as well as their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was late, and they all grew drowsy and fell asleep. 6 But at midnight there was a cry, "Look! The bridegroom! Go out and meet him." 7 Then all those wedding attendants woke up and trimmed their lamps, 8 and the foolish ones said to the sensible ones, "Give us some of your oil: our lamps are going out." 9 But they replied, "There may not be enough for us and for you; you had better go to those who sell it and buy some for yourselves." 10 They had gone off to buy it when the bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him to the wedding hall and the door was closed. 11 The other attendants arrived later. "Lord, Lord," they said, "open the door for us." 12 But he replied, "In truth I tell you, I do not know you." 13 So stay awake, because you do not know either the day or the hour. The Gospel of the Lord Praise be to you, Lord Jesus Christ

Tuesday 28 Form 1 West Feast of St. Jude and St. Simon. We also remember to pray for Terry-Ann Modeste 1 st Anniversary. - Stop time wasting. It has and is having consequences for your life. Don t be a slacker or a procrastinator. Time to count the cost of time wasting. Consequences. A good story to emphasise that would be useful. - This is just a summary of points. The reflection must be done properly, preferably by a student. Reading: Proverbs 24:30-34 30 By the idler's field I was passing, by the vineyard of a man who had no sense, 31 there it all lay, deep in thorns, entirely overgrown with weeds, and its stone wall broken down. 32 And as I gazed I pondered, I drew this lesson from the sight, 33 'A little sleep, a little drowsiness, a little folding of the arms to lie back 34 and poverty comes like a vagrant, and, like a beggar, dearth.' The Word of the Lord Thanks be to God. Wednesday 29 Form 5 East Theme Remember your goals and your purpose. Have the courage to do the right thing even though you are afraid. 2 Timothy Chapter 1 6 I am reminding you now to fan into a flame the gift of God that you possess through the laying on of my hands. 7 God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but the Spirit of power and love and self-control. 8 So you are never to be ashamed of witnessing to our Lord, or ashamed of me for being his prisoner; but share in my hardships for the sake of the gospel, relying on the power of God 9 who has saved us and called us to be holy -- not because of anything we ourselves had done but for his own purpose and by his own grace. This grace had already been granted to us, in Christ Jesus, before the beginning of time,

10 but it has been revealed only by the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus. He has abolished death, and he has brought to light immortality and life through the gospel, 11 in whose service I have been made herald, apostle and teacher. 12 That is why I am experiencing my present sufferings; but I am not ashamed, because I know in whom I have put my trust, and I have no doubt at all that he is able to safeguard until that Day what I have entrusted to him. 13 Keep as your pattern the sound teaching you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14 With the help of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, look after that precious thing given in trust. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. This is just a summary of points. The reflection must be done properly, preferably by a student. - Conquer your fears. Don t let your fears make your decisions for you. You decide. If you have worked out that this is the right thing. The thing that will make you a better person. Then do it. Courage means acting in the face of fear, not acting without fear. You might be afraid of failing but still try. Push yourself beyond your comfort zone. Remember that Winning means rising whenever you fall. The race is not for the swift but the persistent. You may not be the strongest, or the best but effort will bring results. Courage is standing strong in the midst of fear and doubt Courage is fear holding on a minute longer. George S. Patton Four Star General, World War II Some other quotes: http://www.values.com/courage -

Thursday 30 Form 5West Theme: have the courage to do the right thing even when everyone else seems to be doing the wrong thing. Dealing with negative pressure. Ephesians Chapter 5: 8-21 Behave as children of light, 9 for the effects of the light are seen in complete goodness and uprightness and truth. 10 Try to discover what the Lord wants of you, 11 take no part in the futile works of darkness but, on the contrary, show them up for what they are. 12 The things which are done in secret are shameful even to speak of; 13 but anything shown up by the light will be illuminated 14 and anything illuminated is itself a light. That is why it is said: Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. 15 So be very careful about the sort of lives you lead, like intelligent and not like senseless people. 16 Make the best of the present time, for it is a wicked age. 17 This is why you must not be thoughtless but must recognise what is the will of the Lord. 18 Do not get drunk with wine; this is simply dissipation; be filled with the Spirit. 19 Sing psalms and hymns and inspired songs among yourselves, singing and chanting to the Lord in your hearts, 20 always and everywhere giving thanks to God who is our Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 21 Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ. The Word of the Lord Thanks be to God. This is just a summary of points. The reflection must be done properly, preferably by a student. - Do the right thing, not the easy thing. You can know the right thing by predicting the consequences. Don t go on feeling. Go on the teaching and example of the God-fearing people in your life. - Overcome negative peer pressure. Do the things that will give you self-respect and inner peace. Sometimes you have to care more about what you think of you than what your peers think of you Resources: qualities of a good friend. http://christianity.about.com/od/prayersverses/qt/friendshipbibleverses.htm Friday s assembly will be around the Respect for Life theme. To be discussed with Ms Claxton.
