TONIGHT Monday 2nd April Graham Taylor unravels some of the mysteries of the Universe! Why is it so??????? Fellowship: Sue O Neill Vote of Thanks: Rob O Neill Interact Students, Teachers and Friends visit from Japan During the past week we have hosted a study group from Japan. A huge thank you must go to all our hosting families! Thank you!! We recruited host families from our own club as well as from Dural. We appreciate your generosity and commitment to making our visiting Japanese students, teachers and friends welcome. The group enjoyed several interesting, educational and fun days staying with Kenthurst and Dural families. One hi-light of the trip was the visit to Ku -ring-gai National Park where an indigenous guide explained bush tucker and everyone got to sample some unusual taste treats. They also were able to see many rock cravings up close and have the meanings interpreted and explained. Well done to Neville Smerdon for the enormous coordination, to Paul and Vicki Rapp for the magnificent farewell dinner and to all the host families for their hospitality. It was all enormously appreciated by all our visitors. Breaking News!!!! Club web site Our new web site, hosted by ClubRunner, is now operational but remains a work in progress. It contains comprehensive information about the operations of the Club, its history, activities, projects and forthcoming events. The address is: www.clubrunner.ca/kenthurst Internet searches do not yet readily return this site, but the situation is expected to improve soon. ClubRunner integrates our presence on the web with a general ledger on membership which the Club has used for some time. If members wish to have content posted to our site, I can assist or (for those that wish) demonstrate how this may be done. Members may log in with various levels of authority (or to view any members only site content). Login and password information can be obtained by clicking on forgot your password. The information will then automatically be emailed to you. David Gadiel Check it out - this is big news!!!! Kenthust Men s Shed Rt: At Ku-ring-gai National Park 3 4
Kenthurst Men's Shed Last Friday, the Hills Shire Mayor, Greg Burnett and the Member for Hawkesbury, Ray Williams visited the proposed Men s Shed building at the site of the old scout hall in Lukas Avenue. The main purpose of the visit was to take photos with Kenthurst Rotarians and prospective Men s Shed members for inclusion in an upcoming article for the Hills Shire Times. Thanks to John Benyon, his team and the CSO workers for the preliminary work they have already undertaken in tidying up and levelling the site. Just to remind members that a public meeting on the Men s Shed will be held in Rotary Park on Saturday 14th April commencing 11.00am. Please try and make it as this will be a significant milestone announcing the funding that has been received from Council and State Government and outlining the proposed project plan to get the Men s Shed up and running as soon as possible. A BBQ will be provided. Left: Our Japanese visitors at Ku-ring-gai National Park. Below Left: The indigenous guide demonstrating music and songs and explaining bush tucker. Dinner at Paul and Vicki s Last Sunday evening we were treated to the generous hospitality of Paul and Vicki Rapp. Paul and Vicki again offered their beautiful home to our club and hosted a dinner for around 70 people. The superb venue and the welcoming ambience provides the perfect backdrop for everyone to relax and have a good time. We were treated to a tasty seafood entrée while we mingled and enjoyed drinks, then to a delicious main meal and lovely dessert. We had the pleasure of the company of our District Governor David and his wife Anne. DG David wrote the following message. Hi Neville and Rob, Thanks for your kind hospitality last night. Anne and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as I'm sure your visiting Interactors and their teachers and accompanying Rotarians did. what a wonderful venue Paul and Vicki have and how well suited it was to last night's reception. Please thank the visiting party for their kind gifts - including the happy coats! We particularly liked the entertainment - the tied sticks were fascinating. If any members has a range of photos from the night could you please ask them to send me some. I am trying to compile a set of photos of (young) people doing things. Thanks again and we look forward to catching up again soon. Cheers, 7 David Rands Governor, District 9680 2011-12 8
Membership Questionarie This week we will circulate a Membership Questionnaire. The aim of the questionnaire is to give all members an opportunity to have a say in various aspects of Rotary. We would like you to tell us things you like and don t like. The survey covers several areas of Rotary but there may be other things you wish to comment on - please do this. We will compile the responses graphically and present them at a future meeting. You may wish to compete the questionnaire anonymously - this is ok, you may prefer not to complete the survey - this is ok too. However, we would encourage everyone to participate as only then can we get a true indication about some of the issues and also things you really enjoy. Hard copies will be available on Monday evening also a copy will be sent electronically with this Klarion. Please return your completed questionnaire to Club Secretary, Graham Taylor by April 16th.
