One Of The Seven Messengers A Tale Of Two Cities It was the best of times, it was the worst of times 2

One Of The Seven Messengers Outline 1) Definition of Messenger / Angels 2) Rev 17:1 one of the seven angels 3) Last Trumpet, 7-Churches 4) Mighty Angels 5) Proper Protocol 6) Rev 17:1-12 Interpretation 7) Revelation 1-3 8) The proper worship of Jesus 9) The John class 3

One Of The Seven Messengers Rv 17:1 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, "Come, I will show you the judgment of the great whore who is seated on many waters, NRSV 4

Definition of Messenger or Angel A messenger, one who is sent in order to announce, teach, perform, or explore anything... The angels of the seven churches are probably the bishops or pastors of those churches, the delegates or messengers of the churches of God may have reference to itinerate preachers rather than angels. The Complete Word Study Dictionary of the NT 5

The Resurrection 1Cor 15:51 51Listen, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die, but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. NRSV 6

The Angel with the Little Scroll Rv 10:7 but in the days when the seventh angel is to blow his trumpet, the mystery of God will be fulfilled, as he announced to his servants the prophets. 8 Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me again, saying, "Go, take the scroll that is open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land." 9 So I went to the angel and told him to give me the little scroll; and he said to me, "Take it, and eat; it will be bitter to your stomach, but sweet as honey in your mouth. NRSV 7

John Testifying Rev 1:9-11 I, John, your brother who share with you in Jesus the persecution and the kingdom and the patient endurance, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. 10 I was in the spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet 11 saying, "Write in a book what you see and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamum, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea." NRSV 8

Jesus Testifying - Interpretation Rv 1:20 As for the mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches. NRSV 9

The 7 angels mentioned in Rev Chapters 2 & 3 are the messengers to the 7 churches Rv 2:1 The Message to Ephesus (1) Rv 2:8 The Message to Smyrna (2) Rv 2:12 The Message to Pergamum (3) Rv 2:18 The Message to Thyatira (4) Rv 3:1 The Message to Sardis (5) Rv 3:7 The Message to Philadelphia (6) Rv 3:14 The Message to Laodicea (7) 10

The Great Harlot Rv 17:1 Then one of the seven angels (CTR) who had the seven bowls came and said to me (John), "Come, I (CTR) will show you (John) the judgment of the great whore who is seated on many waters, NRSV The angel explains the judgment and the identification of the harlot. 11

The Great Harlot and the Beast Rv 17:3 So he (CTR) carried me (John) away in the spirit into a wilderness, and I (John) saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was full of blasphemous names, and it had seven heads and ten horns. NRSV The angel goes back in history and clearly reveals the dating and understanding of the 1260-years of Daniel s prophecy, the harlot s power and characteristics. 12

The Fall of Babylon Rev 18:1-3 1 After this I saw another angel (Jesus) coming down from heaven, having great authority; and the earth was made bright with his splendor. 2 He called out with a mighty voice, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! It has become a dwelling place of demons, a haunt of every foul spirit, a haunt of every foul bird, a haunt of every foul and hateful beast. 3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her luxury. NRSV 13

The Fall of Babylon Rev 18:4 Then I (John) heard another voice from heaven saying, (CTR) "Come out of her, my people, so that you do not take part in her sins, and so that you do not share in her plagues; 5 for her sins are heaped high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. NRSV The message was our Lords return and the harvest has begun. 14

Proper Protocol Worship God Rv 19:9-10 9 And the angel (CTR) said to me, (John) "Write this: Blessed are those (church & GC) who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb." And he (angel) said to me (John), "These are true words of God." 10 Then I (John) fell down at his (CTR) feet to worship him, (CTR) but he (CTR) said to me, (John) "You must not do that! I (CTR) am a fellow servant with you (John) and your comrades (GC) who hold the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." NRSV The angel corrects our over reaction. 15

Vision of the New Jerusalem Rv 21:9-10 9 Then one of the seven angels (CTR) who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, (John) "Come, I (CTR) will show you (John) the bride, the wife of the Lamb." 10 And in the spirit he (CTR) carried me (John) away to a great, high mountain and showed me (John) the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. NRSV Once again this angel explains the bride, the purpose of our calling. Verse 10 tells us of a new government. 16

Vision of the New Jerusalem Rv 21:15 The angel (CTR) who talked to me (John) had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city and its gates and walls. Rv 21:17 He (CTR) also measured its wall, one hundred forty-four cubits by human measurement, which the angel (CTR) was using. NRSV The angel is the one who explains who the 144,000 are. Verse 17 tells us the angel is a man 17

The River of Life Rv 22:1 Then the angel (CTR) showed me(john) the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 through the middle of the street of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3 Nothing accursed will be found there any more. But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him; NRSV This angel brings to light the facts of restitution. 18

The Angel Testifying Rv 22:6 And he (CTR) said to me, (John) "These words are trustworthy and true, for the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel (CTR) to show his servants (John Class) what must soon take place. 7 "See, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book. NRSV This angel claims to have presented the truth and explains his place in God s purpose, the proper protocol. 19

Rv 22:8-10 8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I (John) heard and saw them, I (John) fell down to worship at the feet of the angel (CTR) who showed them to me; (John) 9 but he (CTR) said to me, (John) "You must not do that! I (CTR) am a fellow servant with you (John) and your comrades (GC) the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God! 10 And he (CTR) said to me, (John) "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. NRSV Verses 8 & 9 once again correct our overreaction and verse 10 explains time features 20

How Jesus Testifies Rv 22:16 "It is I, Jesus, who sent my angel (CTR) to you with this testimony for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star." NRSV Notice: Jesus gives us a giant clue on who this angel is by telling us it is not him personally, this also has similar language to Rev 1:1. 21

Rv 1:1-3 Benediction 1 The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him (Jesus) to show his servants (church) what must soon take place; he (Jesus) made it known by sending his (Jesus) angel (CTR) to his servant John, (harvest church) 2 who testified to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he (John) saw. 3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of the prophecy, and blessed are those who hear and who keep what is written in it; for the time is near. NRSV 22

Complementary Book End Scriptures Benediction Rv 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of the prophecy, and keep the things that are written therein: for the time is at hand. ASV Epilogue Rv 22:10 And he saith unto me, Seal not up the words of the prophecy of this book; for the time is at hand. ASV Full disclosure during the dispensation of the harvest 23

Is it proper to worship Jesus? Matt 28:16-17-18 they worshiped him; Heb 1:5-6 "Let all God's angels worship him. Rv 5:12-14 And the elders fell down and worshiped. John 9:38 "Lord, I believe." And he worshiped him. Matt 2:2 and have come to pay him homage." 24

John represents the church on this side of the Vail during the harvest. John 21:20-25 22 Jesus said to him, "If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? Follow me!" 23 So the rumor spread in the community that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, "If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?" NRSV Rev 22:6 sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place. NRSV Rev 1:1 The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place; he made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, NRSV 25

Why did we go through these lengthy proofs on Gods protocol? That man s greatest achievement was the written word. By it we can learn from the dead, communicate with the distant, and leave messages for the yet unborn. Abraham Lincoln 26

The age long question Where are we on the stream of time? 27

The Great Harlot Rv 17:1 Then one of the seven angels (CTR) who had the seven bowls came and said to me (John), "Come, I (CTR) will show you (John) the judgment of the great whore who is seated on many waters, NRSV The Great Harlot is judged, because of her immoralities, fornication, this is her faithlessness to being separate from satins kingdom. 28

The Great Harlot and the Beast / The Woman and the Dragon Rv 17:3 So he (angel) carried me (John) away in the spirit into a wilderness, and I (John) saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was full of blasphemous names, and it had seven heads and ten horns. NRSV Rv 12:6 and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, so that there she can be nourished for one thousand two hundred sixty days. NRSV 29

Rev 17:5-8 5 and on her forehead was written a name, a mystery: "Babylon the great, mother of whores and of earth's abominations." 6 And I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the saints and the blood of the witnesses to Jesus. When I saw her, I was greatly amazed. 7 But the angel said to me, "Why are you so amazed? I will tell you the mystery of the woman, and of the beast with seven heads and ten horns that carries her. 8 The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to ascend from the bottomless pit and go to destruction. And the inhabitants of the earth, whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will be amazed when they see the beast, because it was and is not and is to come. NRSV 30

Rev 17:9-14 9 "This calls for a mind that has wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is seated; also, they are seven kings, 10 of whom five have fallen, one is living, and the other has not yet come; and when he comes, he must remain only a little while. 11 As for the beast that was and is not, it is an eighth but it belongs to the seven, and it goes to destruction. 12 And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they are to receive authority as kings for one hour, together with the beast. 13 These are united in yielding their power and authority to the beast; 14 they will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful. NRSV 31

Wisdom Da 12:10 Many shall be purified, cleansed, and refined, but the wicked shall continue to act wickedly. None of the wicked shall understand, but those who are wise shall understand. NRSV Wisdom through faith 32
