Welcome, Worship Orientation 101, Connection Cards, Lent No Longer Strangers Prayer Blessed be God the Word, who sent Jesus to show us love and we rejected him. This is how God shows us how to love the stranger. O God, show us that whoever welcomes you, welcomes the stranger. Make us so bold as to show your love to people we don t know. Amen. Meet Someone New We practice being Christians by extending our hand in friendship to people we may not know very well or at all. If we can t practice it here in worship, where else can we do it? Go ahead, make the first move. Hi, my name is. You re new to me. OR Can I introduce myself to you? are good ways to start. Reprise of Lord I Lift Your Name On High to gather everyone back together. 5

Confession In the name of the Father, and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, God promises to heal us and forgive us. Let us confess that God is God and we are not. Silence is kept for confession. Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, Have mercy on us. Reader 1: For self-centered living, And for failing to walk with humility and gentleness: ALL: Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, have mercy on us. Reader 2: For longing to have what is not ours, and for hearts that are not at rest with ourselves: ALL: Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, have mercy on us. Reader 3: For misuse of human relationship, and for unwillingness to see the image of God in others: ALL: Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, have mercy on us. Reader 4: For jealousies that divide families and nations, and for rivalries that create strife and warfare: ALL: Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, have mercy on us. Reader 5: For reluctance in sharing the gifts of God, and for carelessness with the fruits of creation: ALL: Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, have mercy on us. Reader 6: For hurtful words that condemn, and for angry deeds that harm: ALL: Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, have mercy on us. Reader 7: For idleness in witnessing to Jesus Christ, and for squandering the gifts of love and grace: ALL: Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, have mercy on us. Assurance of Forgiveness Almighty God have mercy on us. Help us to see our own sins and not judge those of our sisters and brothers. Forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, Holy God, our lives are laid open before you. Rescue us from the chaos of sin; bring us healing and make us whole. Amen The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the community of the Holy Spirit, is with you all. And also with you. 6

Prayer of the Day Let us pray: Lord of love, what do we have to do to have eternal life? Why do we think it always depends on us? You are the love of our lives. Amen. The Word To the Narrator: please tell the congregation what their parts are before announcing the reading. Reader: Hear the Good News from the 10 th chapter of Mark, verses 17-31. Narrator: As [Jesus] was setting out on a journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, Man (side 1): Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life? Narrator: Jesus said to him, Jesus (side 2): Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; You shall not defraud; Honor your father and mother. Narrator: He said to him, Man (side 1): Teacher, I have kept all these since my youth. Narrator: Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, Jesus (side 2): You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me. Narrator: When he heard this, he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions. Then Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, Jesus (side 2): How hard it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God! Narrator: And the disciples were perplexed at these words. But Jesus said to them again, Jesus (side 2): Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God. Narrator: They were greatly astounded and said to one another, Disciples (ALL): Then who can be saved? Narrator: Jesus looked at them and said, Jesus (Side 2): For mortals it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible. Narrator: Peter began to say to him, Peter (ALL): Look, we have left everything and followed you. Narrator: Jesus said, Jesus (side 2): Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields, for my sake and for the sake of the good news, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this age houses, brothers and sisters, mothers and children, and fields with persecutions and in the age to come eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first. Stay tuned for the continuing saga that is our story and God s story. Thanks be to God. Sermon Children s Sermon 13

Baptism The Feast Prayers for the World// Question Mark Prayers So many ways to pray! 1. Use the image that was given to you on your way into worship to write or draw a prayer on and then attach it to the Question Mark in the worship space. 2. Use your phone to text someone a prayer. 3. Post a question prayer on Facebook or Twitter with the #40questionprayers. Post a question- prayer a day. 4. Take a post card to send to someone after you leave worship today telling them that they were prayed for in worship today. Offering All that we have and all that we are comes from God. Let us give back to God in a spirit of generosity. There will be enough. Please put your offering of gratitude to God in the plate as it passes by. Prayerfully consider giving a consistent financial gift to River of Hope so our community cannot just survive but thrive. The watering can is for gifts to House of Grace, a mission congregation in Montrose, Minnesota. The picnic basket is for breakfast items for the REACH program at the high school. Bring your Backpack Program food forward Offering Music Setting the Table As the kids help set the table, they make a circle around the table and lead the congregation in the table prayer written by Martin Luther: Let s pray: Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest. And let these gifts to us be blest. Amen. Thanksgiving at the Table The Lord is with you And also with you Lift up your hearts! We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise. Words to Bless the Feast It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus Christ. You call your people to cleanse their hearts and prepare with joy for the paschal feast, that renewed in the gift of baptism, we may come to the fullness of your grace. And so with all the choirs of angels, with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: 14

16

Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal: you we praise and glorify, you we worship and adore. You formed the earth from chaos; you encircled the globe with air; you created fire for warmth and light; you nourish the lands with water. You molded us in your image, and with mercy higher than the mountains, with grace deeper than the seas, you blessed the Israelites and cherished them as your own. That also we, estranged and dying, might be adopted to live in your Spirit, you called to us through the life and death of Jesus. On the night Together as the body of Christ, we proclaim the Lord s death until he comes. Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. 17

The Lord s Prayer You are invited to join hands with those around you in prayer. If you are not the hand-holding type, then simply fold your hands in front of you or hang onto this bulletin as you pray. Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Invitation to the Meal You are welcome to this meal. If you hunger and thirst for grace and mercy that comes through Jesus Christ, then Christ has set this table just for you. Bring all that you are and all that you have to the table. You will be fed. You are forgiven. There is enough. Communion Songs Lamb of God, O Jesus I Have Promised & Make Me A Servant 18

Prayer After Communion Let us pray. God of abundance, Is this the feast of victory? We deny death all the time but our lives depend on your death and your resurrection. Give us new life that only comes from you so that we may serve all in need and give ourselves away in your victory and not our own. Through Jesus Christ. Amen. The Sending Why does our church exist? What is our purpose? We go out to transform lives through Jesus Christ. MILESTONE "It's time for milestones-a time of sharing milestones in our community. Big, small, good, bad. Come on up if you have one to share. After each person shares their milestone, the congregation responds by saying MILESTONE! Will You Come and Follow Me will be sung at the beginning and end of the sharing. 26

Blessing May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you, wherever He may send you. May He guide you through the wilderness, protect you through the storm. May He bring you home rejoicing at the wonders He has shown you. May He bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors. Sending Song My Life Flows On in Endless Song 27
