Judges 21:25 (NASB) 25 In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

Ruth 1:6-13 (NASB) 6 Then she arose with her daughters-in-law that she might return from the land of Moab, for she had heard in the land of Moab that the LORD had visited His people in giving them food. 7 So she departed from the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah. 8 And Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, Go, return each of you to her mother s house. May the LORD deal kindly with you as you have dealt with the dead and with me

9 May the LORD grant that you may find rest, each in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices and wept. 10 And they said to her, No, but we will surely return with you to your people. 11 But Naomi said, Return, my daughters. Why should you go with me? Have I yet sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?

12 Return, my daughters! Go, for I am too old to have a husband. If I said I have hope, if I should even have a husband tonight and also bear sons, 13 would you therefore wait until they were grown? Would you therefore refrain from marrying? No, my daughters; for it is harder for me than for you, for the hand of the LORD has gone forth against me.

Ruth 1:16-18 (NASB) 16 But Ruth said, Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God. 17 Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. Thus may the LORD do to me, and worse, if anything but death parts you and me. 18 When she saw that she was determined to go with her, she said no more to her.

Ruth 1:19-21 (NASB) 19 So they both went until they came to Bethlehem. And when they had come to Bethlehem, all the city was stirred because of them, and the women said, Is this Naomi? 20 She said to them, Do not call me Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. 21 I went out full, but the LORD has brought me back empty. Why do you call me Naomi, since the LORD has witnessed against me and the Almighty has afflicted me?

Ruth 2:11-12 (NASB) 11 Boaz replied to her, All that you have done for your mother-in-law after the death of your husband has been fully reported to me, and how you left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and came to a people that you did not previously know. 12 May the LORD reward your work, and your wages be full from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to seek refuge.

God Decorates for Christmas Ruth 3:6-13 Kinsman Redeemer (go el) The concept of the kinsman redeemer goes all the way back to Genesis 38:8.

Genesis 38:6-8 (NASB) 6 Now Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, and her name was Tamar. 7 But Er, Judah s firstborn, was evil in the sight of the LORD, so the LORD took his life. 8 Then Judah said to Onan, Go in to your brother s wife, and perform your duty as a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother.

God Decorates for Christmas Ruth 3:6-13 Kinsman Redeemer (go el) The concept of the kinsman redeemer goes all the way back to Genesis 38:8. It was written in the law Lev. 25:25-28.

Leviticus 25:25-28 (NASB) 25 If a fellow countryman of yours becomes so poor he has to sell part of his property, then his nearest kinsman is to come and buy back what his relative has sold. 26 Or in case a man has no kinsman, but so recovers his means as to find sufficient for its redemption, 27 then he shall calculate the years since its sale and refund the balance to the man to whom he sold it, and so return to his property. 28 But if he has not found sufficient means to get it back for himself, then what he has sold shall remain in the hands of its purchaser until the year of jubilee; but at the jubilee it shall revert, that he may return to his property.

God Decorates for Christmas Ruth 3:6-13 Kinsman Redeemer (go el) The concept of the kinsman redeemer goes all the way back to Genesis 38:8. It was written in the law Lev. 25:25-28. It is found again in Deuteronomy 25:5-10.

Deuteronomy 25:5-10 (NASB) 5 When brothers live together and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the deceased shall not be married outside the family to a strange man. Her husband s brother shall go in to her and take her to himself as wife and perform the duty of a husband s brother to her. 6 It shall be that the firstborn whom she bears shall assume the name of his dead brother, so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel.

7 But if the man does not desire to take his brother s wife, then his brother s wife shall go up to the gate to the elders and say, My husband s brother refuses to establish a name for his brother in Israel; he is not willing to perform the duty of a husband s brother to me. 8 Then the elders of his city shall summon him and speak to him. And if he persists and says, I do not desire to take her,

9 then his brother s wife shall come to him in the sight of the elders, and pull his sandal off his foot and spit in his face; and she shall declare, Thus it is done to the man who does not build up his brother s house. 10 In Israel his name shall be called, The house of him whose sandal is removed.

It was associated with the year of Jubilee where property and slaves were freed from any debts or obligations.

Ruth 4:5-6 (NASB) 5 Then Boaz said, On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also acquire Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of the deceased, in order to raise up the name of the deceased on his inheritance. 6 The closest relative said, I cannot redeem it for myself, because I would jeopardize my own inheritance. Redeem it for yourself; you may have my right of redemption, for I cannot redeem it.

1 Samuel 16:1-7 (NASB) 1 Now the LORD said to Samuel, How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have selected a king for Myself among his sons. 2 But Samuel said, How can I go? When Saul hears of it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take a heifer with you and say, I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. 3 You shall invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; and you shall anoint for Me the one whom I designate to you.

4 So Samuel did what the LORD said, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the city came trembling to meet him and said, Do you come in peace? 5 He said, In peace; I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice. He also consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. 6 When they entered, he looked at Eliab and thought, Surely the LORD S anointed is before Him. 7 But the LORD said to Samuel, Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.
