Atlantic Union Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church Adventist Youth Ministries GODencounters a 24/7 holy movement February 1-3, 2013 Camp Winnekeag, MA www.auyouth.com
We are so glad you came and we are excited about what God is about to do in your life during this GodEncounters, right here in the beautiful grounds of Camp Winnekeag. Welcome to GODencounters GODencounters is not a program, we are a worldwide holy movement of young adults who are wholeheartedly seeking a 24/7 experience with GOD, recklessly living for His renown, daring to deepen intimacy with GOD. It is our desire to: Live lives of Worship. Be agents of present Gospel. Gracefully express compassion. Pray without ceasing. Embrace Sabbath as soul CPR. Morph into His likeness. Celebrate in Jubilee. We are blessed to be part of a group of young adults who are returning to the heart of GOD, a growing a movement of GODfollowers, pursuing GODencountered lives, 24/7 right here in the Northeast of the United States and Bermuda. This year, we are also honored to have 14 Young Adults here, representing every region of the world, they are members of the One Year in Mission Team and will be ministering and learning in New York City for the next 6 months. GODencounters produce a compassionate life. Jesus lived a life filled with Compassion. As He walked this earth, as a young adult, he was moved to compassion for the crowds, the little ones, the older, the sinners, and even those who thought they were perfect but were far from it. Together, with my colleagues, your Conference Adventist Youth Ministries Directors, we envision a generation of young adults filled Compassion. Young Adults, who live a lifestyle with the same priorities of Jesus, every waking moment. On behalf of our Atlantic Union Leadership Team, office staff, and our Conference Adventist Youth Ministries Directors, we want to welcome you. Enjoy the GodEncounters this weekend and carry out a life of Compassion on the way home We love you! We value a life of constant prayer and praise, daily Bible study, and equipping which transforms each youth and young adult into a disciple of Jesus, with the same priorities of Jesus. We believe that disciples who serve and witness together, under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, lead many people to Christ and ultimately make more disciples. We value a lifestyle of love for all people, like Jesus lived while on this earth. We believe that actions speak louder than words and that it is our calling, as disciples of Christ to mingle with people, outside the walls of the church, and minister to their needs. We oppose abuse, slavery, discrimination, and violence in all its forms and value life as a gift of God. We aim to be the feet and the hands of Jesus in our communities. We know the difference between unity and uniformity. We aim for unity of vision, mission, direction, purpose, and goals while recognizing that God created us different and has given us different heritages, languages, and gifts to accomplish His work. We believe and uphold that Biblical principles never change. We celebrate the use of different effective methods to reach different people. We also value the diversity of worship experiences that bless thousands of youth and young adults across the Atlantic Union territory. We do not accept traditions or personal opinions as an appropriate tool to measure the spirituality of young people. We strongly believe that Scriptures are above tradition, and as believed by the Adventist Church, they are our rule of faith and practice. We value a lifestyle of service, and evangelism, which calls for each youth and young adult of the Atlantic Union to share Jesus through any means possible during all waking hours of all 7 days of the week. We are convicted that God placed us here with the purpose of witnessing, baptizing, and making disciples. We believe that if it is Adventist Youth Ministries it must produce baptisms and disciples. We claim the Holy Spirit daily, we know that without His power and influence it is impossible to complete this mission. We value men and women of different generations whom God has called and will continue to call to serve and lead His church and the world. We believe that competency and the gift of leadership are not measured by age. History has proven often that individuals of any age, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, whether old or young can do an excellent work for God and His Church. We believe that it is vital for the health of our present church, and for the longevity of our church until Jesus comes, that younger generations have a voice in the dialogue and a vote in the decisions. We encourage the Adventist Church, at all levels, to give competent youth and young adults an opportunity to serve in leadership, committees, and decision making teams, regardless of age.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES FOR YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY 1. Activate a Young Adult Ministry in each Conference of the Atlantic Union. 2. Encourage each church in the Atlantic Union to start a Small Group for Young Adults (18-35) in which praise, prayer, Bible study, and mission are emphasized. 3. Empower a movement of compassion of youth, young adults, kids, and their leaders, who join across Conference lines, to share Christ s love with the cities of the Atlantic Union (the Method of Jesus). 4. Be 100% involved and supportive in the faces of planning and execution of the New York 13 (NY13) World Initiative for the New York City Metro Area. 5. Have an equipping track in our Atlantic Union or Conferences events for young men and women who would like to be leaders in the church (including Elders & Pastors). So they will understand how the church works. 6. Encourage each local church in the Atlantic Union to appoint at least one, but not limited to 1, Elder under age 35. 7. To work with the Administration of the Atlantic Union and each Conference to promote the participation of Young Adults in relevant Committees, Constituency Sessions, and other official gatherings where young adults may have felt or still feel excluded from. Young Adults must have a voice and a vote in the affairs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, young adults are members too. 8. To hold an annual Atlantic Union GodEncounters Conference 9. To hold inter-conference regional GodEncounters Conferences in certain cities of our Atlantic Union territory (we also encourage local churches to hold GodEncounters). 10. Encourage a large participation of Young Adults from the Atlantic Union in the World Youth Congress in South Africa, 2013. 11. Encourage Young Adult participation in the annual Cruise with a Mission, led by the Center for Youth Evangelism at Andrews University, and endorsed by the Atlantic Union as our official Young Adult Mission trip. 12. Encourage the attendance and participation of Young Adult and Young Adult leaders at the Just Claim It 4, Ignition for Young Adults, in Miami, Florida. 13. To have an Atlantic Union Adventist Youth & Young Adult Evangelism & Leadership Congress in 2015 with the participation of youth & young adults from all the Conferences in our Union. 14. To facilitate a friendly atmosphere so Adventist Young Adults looking for a serious relationship and future marriage are able to meet and network with other Adventist Young Adults from across the Atlantic Union, North America, and the world.
