A Publication of West Haven Presbyterian Church for our Members and Friends in Christ Volume XXXVII, Issue 3 ch, 20166 Sunrise For the duration of Lent, we travel, in the words of T.S.. Eliot, where the sun beats, the dead tree gives no shelter and the dry stone no sound of water (The Waste Land).. We embark on the road of discipleship taking up our crosss and acknowledging our mortality. Until finally, we ache for a return to life. Dare we hope? At the end of k s gospel, we find y Magdalenee and y the mother of James. They have experienced the deepest sorrow of loss. Jesus has died, and the disciples have scattered fleeing for their lives. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, y and y Magdalene were on their way to the tomb where Jesus had been buried. They planned to anoint Jesus body offering one last service to him. On their way, they worried out loud to each other, Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb? But when they looked up, they saw that the stone it was a huge stone had been rolled away. They walked right into the tomb and found a young man dressed in white. The young man reassured them, Don t be afraid. I know you re looking for Jesus of Nazareth. He s not here. He s risen. Now go and tell Peter and the other disciples to meet him in Galileee just as he said. THE PATHFINDER BEE SURE THESEE EVENTS ARE ON YOUR CALENDAR! The tomb is empty. The wilderness of dust and ashes, of mortality and sorrow, fades from view. A new horizon, a new hope bursts on the scene. This is the story the church has been telling for nearly two thousand years. This story is the heart and climax of Christian faith, hope, and love. On Easter morning, lilies will fill the West Haven sanctuary, and rightly so. On Easter morning, we give thanks and celebrate, as the Apostles Creed says, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. As we walk through these final weeks of Lent, may hope begin to swell in our hearts for the sunrise. Sam LUNCH AT WEST HAVEN! 2ND WEDNESDAY CAFÉ will meet Wednesday, ch 9 h in the fellowship hall.
