- - This is how it is with the kingdom of God. What is a kingdom? Is it the brick and mortar that build up the castle? Is it the expanse of land a king can reason -ably defend? Our notions of kingdoms may be romanticized in the modern era, but for the Israelites, a kingdom held deep historical meaning. Thousands of years before the birth of Christ, the Israelites had asked God for a king. After the reigns of David and Solomon, the united kingdom dissolved into factions, and the land was conquered by the Assyrians, Babylonians, and, finally, Romans. For the Israelites, a kingdom was something to build, both structurally and civilly. While this had ended in ruin for their ancestors, many of Jesus' contemporaries longed for the restoration of an earthly kingdom. Jesus' words in today's Gospel are a radical departure from this perspective. He compares the Kingdom of God to a field, but it appears that the farmer has little to do with its progress. The seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how. Of its own accord, the land yields fruit. Jesus introduces his follow -ers to a new sort of kingdom, a kingdom where God provides the growth. There is work to be done, of course. When the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once, for the harvest has come. But for the Kingdom of God to flourish, there are certain things that are outside of our control. We sow seeds of kindness, justice, and integrity and then we must be patient. As shoots of faith appear, we nurture the growth with encouragement. As Christians, our task is not to build the Kingdom of God under our power alone, but to trust in the life-giving movement of God. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN - PUBLIC PHASE PROUD OF OUR PAST - BUILDING FOR OUR FUTURE out to our most generous parishioners, and out of those about 50 parishioners were able to raise over half a million dollar for our Campaign. They were asked for specific amount and most were able to commit what they were asked. That is very impressive and a good sign that our Campaign is going to be very successful. Now we are asking all of you, dear parishioners and friends, to join us by making your pledge according to your own discretion and ability. We would ask you, if possible, to pledge at least $3,000 throughout 3 years (with 10% down - it comes to $75 a month). If you can not, we understand, and we will appreciate any donation. Our goal is to have all the parishioners to participate to the best of their ability and love towards our parish. So, please take those pledge cards, think and pray if you can make a sacrificial gift. Once you made your decision, if possible, please put 10% down in your first payment. Thank you all so much for caring in the past and securing a future for our parish and school. JUNE 25 - STATEHOOD DAY OF THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA a holiday that occurs every year on 25 June in Croatia to celebrate the country's 1991 declaration of independence from Yugoslavia. The Statehood Day is an official holiday, a day off work in Croatia. After the independence referendum held on May 19, 1991, the Croatian Parliament formally proclaimed independence. The Statehood Day originally used to be May 30, marking the day when in 1990 the first post-communist multi-party Parliament was constituted. There was some controversy in the public regarding which date is more suitable for the day of the statehood. Since 2002, June 25 has prevailed as the Statehood Day. This holiday is not to be confused with Croatia's Independence Day, which is marked each year on October 8. The independence was proclaimed on June 25, but a 3-month moratorium was placed on the implementation of the decision, and the Parliament cut all remaining ties with Yugoslavia in October.
