For the first quarter 2015, the congregation contributed $89,965 exceeding the 2015 budget target of $87,631 by 2.6%. This is a good start for the year and we should collectively say a prayer that God has blessed us with the ability to have such results. Please keep the following in mind when contemplating your continued offering to His mission: In 2015, we will not receive contribution from several generous givers that (combined) contributed around $36,000 in 2014. In 2015, we have increased debt service and operational costs associated with our new building. Giving normally declines during the summer months, but our bills remain constant (a reason electronic giving is offered). In May the Finance Team will issue giving statements (covering January to April contributions) to all members so we can review our individual contributions and make adjustments as God leads us. Feeding the Lambs From the Desk of Nina Wason, Christian Education Director In this Sunday s gospel we have this interesting, not to say weird, little conversation that takes place between Peter and Jesus after a little fishing trip. When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these? And Simon answered, Yes, Lord, you know that I love you. Jesus said to him, Feed my lambs. It is a little weird because Jesus calls his friend by his old name, Simon,, not the name Jesus had given to him Rock Head. I wonder why is it because he was hoping Peter wouldn t be hard-headed at this particular moment? Did he not want Peter to get confused and think he was becoming a Rock Star? Was Jesus beginning to hint that Simon son of John was being called out of his family identity? It is also a strange conversation because Jesus asks Peter the same question three times.a reminder to me at least that God often has to work very hard at getting my attention. He has to emphasize things over and over and over. But what is most notable is that Peter learns that love for God looks an awful lot like feeding God s people feeding with regular food, or with forgiveness or a fishing trip or words of encouragement, or the grace of a listening ear, or even the challenge of a good question. On Sunday morning at 9am, we as a church fulfill Peter s role a little bit as we share communion for the first time with some of God s lambs: Brayden Avery, Benjamin Botzum, Michael DiPrinzio, Andrew Keenan, Taylor Richardson, Emily Schwertfeger, Alyssa Spengler, and Lucas Travetti They will gather around the table with their families and we will be gathering around them in spirit to welcome them to the Table of forgiveness, the sacrament that we receive together each week as a reminder of God s great outpouring of love for us, and as a reminder to go out into the world to love others as He loves us. I hope you will take a moment to look at their projects displayed in the narthex and hallway, speak a word of welcome to them, and enjoy a bit of celebratory cake with them and their families at 10:15. All of that is part of the feeding of the sheep too..and it s not just for rock-headed fishermen (though those are welcome too).
