Kentucky Caller MONTHLY NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2017 KENTUCKY ROAD CHRISTIAN CHURCH God s Great Love See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. (1 John 3:1-3) John opens the Gospel of John by stating that the Word became flesh and came so that we might be called the children of God. In his first letter, John comes back to this wonderful image. The greatest gift that God has given mankind is the ability to be called God s children. This is a result of what Jesus has done for us. We who have this hope have been purified by the blood of Jesus. At the moment, we remain hidden from the world s eye, but when Jesus comes we will be revealed for who we truly are. We celebrate his first coming on December 25th. He came in the form of babe, wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. His birth was not extraordinary in any sense of the word. He was herald by angels and shepherds and wise men, but for most people, they were unaware. It happened in a little town in a backwater part of the Roman Empire. But we celebrate because Jesus was the love that God lavished upon us. That through his eventual death and resurrection, we are made the children of God. Dec. 14 - Elders & Deacons And we long for the day that Jesus comes again. It will not be one that is done in secret. When Jesus comes again, the whole world will know. They will hear and fear. We long to be revealed, to be made known. We are using 8 short stories to highlight the main themes of the Bible so that each of us can tell God s Story from cover to cover. It s been fun the last few weeks, practicing the stories with each other. Please pray that these stories will soon be planted deep in our hearts and will soon become Good News and a blessing for all that hear them. Chad and Bunny, who grew up in the Taipei church, recently had an opportunity to share on the National Education Radio station about our annual Sports & English Camp. It will be aired in December. Chad just returned to Taiwan from a short trip to the US to attend Team Leader training and to attend the International Conference on Missions, both in Peoria, IL. Sanchez Family Manzanillo, Mexico Please understand, Susan grew up in a community where she was in both the racial majority and religious majority, so the following story is so important to share and to wrap your mind around what we face here. A new girl to school was placed next to Isaac, age 10, in class. Discussion one day of a musical instrument led April to comment, Oh of course, we hear that all the time in mass. Isaac simply said, Oh, I didn t know that, I am a Christian. April, shocked, yelled in horror across the room to Isaac s best friend, Emmanual, did you know that Isaac is a Christian? (insert face of disgust). Emmanuel calmly answered, Well, yah, I ve known since first grade. And with that, the situation was immediately diffused. As Isaac is the only non-catholic in his class, he loves everyday in the face of opposition, no matter what face it makes. Shiloh-- Nancy Arnold, Martha Coil, Helen Doyle, Judy Hampton and Louise Klusman recently went to visit Shiloh and deliver the 15 quilts we have made for them this year. One of the housemothers, Denice Blew, was our hostess and even fed us a delicious lunch, while giving us a lot of information about the Ranch. She and her husband Kevin have been houseparents at Shiloh for 35 years! UPCOMING EVENTS Christian Campus House This season is a special time for our staff to share our thankful hearts and the meaning of Thanksgiving with the international community on and around campus. This past weekend we celebrated Thanksgiving with over 140 international guests as they were treated to a traditional Thanksgiving meal. We are blessed by many who assist us from area churches. Our International staff has a great reputation on campus, in Columbia, and among the international community. You are a part of everything that is happening here, and we ask you to continue praying for those who seem close to responding to the call to place their trust in Jesus. Lance Tamerius, Director. A person has been contacted to be the minister of the new church plant in Dexter, MO. Pray that he and his family will earnestly seek God s will in this decision.
