N/A HB / 12 - Prayer Book, Liturgy and Music Resolution Filed Original (as filed) Not yet reviewed RESOLUTION TEXT 1 Resolved, the House of concurring, That the 79th General Convention invite the multicultural ministers of the Church who are tasked with supporting the work of the Church's Black, Latino/Hispanic, Asian American and Native communities to work with liturgists and ministers in their communities to create a small book of prayer, liturgy and music as a gift for the Church in recognition and witness to the presence of Christ in all of our communities, traditions, and cultural expressions, knowing that as we live, we pray, and that as we pray, we live; and be it further 2 3 Resolved, That the book they produce be presented to the 80th General Convention for use by the whole Episcopal Church; and be it further Resolved, That the General Convention request the Joint Standing Committee on Program, Budget, and Finance consider a budget allocation of $15,000 for the implementation of this resolution. Resolution Number: 2015-A169 Prepare a Plan for Revising the 1979 Book of Common Prayer Concurred Resolved, That the 78th General Convention direct the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music (SCLM) to prepare a plan for the comprehensive revision of the current Book of Common Prayer and present that plan to the 79th General Convention; and be it further Resolved, That such a plan for revision utilize the riches of our Church s liturgical, cultural, racial, generational, linguistic, gender and ethnic diversity in order to share common worship; and be it further Resolved, That the plan for revision take into consideration the use of current technologies which provide access to a broad range of liturgical resources; and be it further Resolved, That the General Convention request the Joint Standing Committee on Program, Budget and Finance to consider a budget allocation of $30,000 for the implementation of this resolution. Resolution Number: 2006-A072 Gather a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Collection of Music Concurred Resolved, That the 75th General Convention direct the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music to gather a collection of music to broaden the cultural breadth of the music of the church, and to make native-language materials available to non-english speaking worshiping communities; and be it further Resolved, That the means of gathering and development of these materials use models which would innovatively draw on and reflect our Church s liturgical, cultural, racial, generational, gender, and ethnic diversity; and be it further Resolved, That the Standing Commission be directed to appoint a Committee to oversee the collection of this music; and be it further Resolved, That the General Convention direct the Joint Standing Committee on Program, Budget and Finance to consider a budget allocation of $35,000 for implementation of this resolution. Resolution Number: 2003-A092 Continue to Develop Enriching our Worship and Enriching our Music Concurred as Substituted and Amended Resolved, That the 74th General Convention direct the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music (SCLM) to further develop Enriching Our Worship and Enriching Our Music, preparing and collecting rites and music that are culturally diverse for use in a wide range of settings to advance the goals of 20/20. These rites and music may include, but not be limited to, pastoral rites to celebrate specific events grounded in the many cultures in our Church, such as: Pastoral offices of the Book of Common Prayer 1979; Rites of Passage, such as Quinceañeras (e.g. Latin American); Naming of Elders (e.g. Korean); Day of the Dead (e.g. Latin American); Honoring of Ancestors (e.g. Chinese); Adoption Rites (e.g. Native American); and Journey to Adulthood Rites; Mission and evangelism-based prayers; Creative worship resources for multisensory worship; And Spanish and French music resources; and be it further Resolved, That the development of these rites and resources be designed and implemented using models which would innovatively draw on and reflect our Church's liturgical, cultural, racial, generational, gender and ethnic diversity; and be it further Resolved, That the SCLM begin to develop a network for sharing these learnings and resources and report on their progress to the 75th General Convention; and be it further Resolved, That the General Convention request the Joint Standing Committee on Program, Budget and Finance to consider a budget allocation of $130,000 for implementation of this resolution. Resolution Number: 2003-A106 Develop Conversations About the Creation of New Liturgical Rites Concurred as Substituted Resolved, That as this Church expresses its theology best in the context of worship, it is important that our liturgies reflect the varied roles and diverse cultures of the baptized; and be it further Resolved, That the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music, in consultation with the Standing Commission on Ministry Development and other concerned committees and groups, invite the bishops and larger church into conversation about our life in Christ as expressed in the rites of this Church, the possibility for local liturgical initiatives in this expression, and the role of the bishop in such undertakings; and be it further Resolved, That the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music develop and implement a framework for conversations within the Church regarding the theological, pastoral, canonical, and liturgical issues involved in the creation of new rites; and be it further Resolved, That the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music, in consultation with the Standing Commission on Constitution and Canons, examine canons and rubrics that govern the development and use of liturgical materials, and propose amendments authorizing appropriate local and regional liturgical initiatives; and be it further Resolved, That the Office for Liturgy and Music be directed to establish a website for collecting, cataloguing, editing, and offering locally developed liturgies authorized by the ecclesiastical authority, explanatory materials, strategies, and processes; and be it further Resolved, That the General Convention request the Joint Standing Committee on Program, Budget and Finance to consider a budget allocation of $15,000 for the implementation of this resolution.
