TO OUR GUESTS AND VISITORS Welcome!! We are glad to have you with us to worship the Triune God. May you be blessed by hearing God s Word today! Thank you for joining us for worship! Please come back soon! Ushers are here to assist you. If you need help or have a question, please ask them. Before you leave please sign our Guest Book as it is our permanent record and reminder of our guests. Our Order of Worship is shown on the monitors on either side of the chancel and follows a traditional pattern of Christian Worship. It is printed out in this bulletin with large print bulletins available upon request. The service is also found, along with the chant melodies, in the front of the hymnal, with pages of hymns in the back. We celebrate Holy Communion every Sunday and on most festival days of the liturgical calendar. All communicant members of our sister congregations are invited to attend the Sacrament with us. Please fill out a registration card and hand it to the Usher. All others are urged to speak to Pastor before communing. **Important Message** for those whose medical conditions limit the consumption of alcohol, we are offering cups of non-alcoholic wine. These cups are located in the center of the individual communion cup trays. A cry room is available for parents with young children. There are speakers and a window so you can continue to see and hear the worship service. The cry room is located behind the sanctuary on the left side.

Now He draws you to His Son, Christ Jesus, by the preaching of His Gospel. Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Jesus, who will never cast him out but will raise him up on the last day (John 6:44 45). He is the bread of life, who comes down from heaven in the flesh, that you may eat of Him and live forever (John 6:48 51). Although the journey is too great for you, in the strength of this food you shall come to the mount of God. Do not be afraid, and do not despair, but arise and eat (1 Kings 19:5 8). And no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds (Eph. 4:17), but walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us (Eph. 5:2). In Him, you have been created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness (Eph. 4:24). Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children (Eph. 5:1), by forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you (Eph. 4:32). Pre-service Music Ringing of the Bells Welcome Hymn of Invocation LSB 749, There Is a Balm in Gilead

2 Confession and Absolution Invocation The sign of the cross T may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism. P In the name of the Father and T of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. P Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. P Our help is in the name of the Lord, C who made heaven and earth. P I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord, C and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. P O almighty God, merciful Father, C I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto You all my sins and iniquities with which I have ever offended You and justly deserved Your temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray You of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being. P Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. Service of the Word The Introit Ps. 34:8 10; antiphon: Ps. 145:16 (ESV) P You open your hand; C you satisfy the desire of every living thing. P Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! C Blessèd is the man who takes refuge in him! P Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, C for those who fear him have no lack!

P The young lions suffer want and hunger; C but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing. Gloria Patri 3 P You open your hand; C you satisfy the desire of every living thing. Kyrie Gloria in Excelsis

4 Salutation and Collect of the Day P The Lord be with you. P Let us pray. P Gracious Father, Your blessed Son came down from heaven to be the true bread that gives life to the world. Grant that Christ, the bread of life, may live in us and we in Him, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

5 Old Testament Reading: 1 Kings 19:1 8 (ESV) A The Old Testament Reading for The Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost is from the 19 th chapter of 1 Kings. 1 Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow. 3 Then he was afraid, and he arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. 4 But he himself went a day s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers. 5 And he lay down and slept under a broom tree. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, Arise and eat. 6 And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. And he ate and drank and lay down again. 7 And the angel of the LORD came again a second time and touched him and said, Arise and eat, for the journey is too great for you. 8 And he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mount of God. A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Epistle Reading: Ephesians 4:17 5:2 (ESV) A The Epistle Reading is from the 4 th and 5 th chapters of St. Paul s Letter to the Ephesians. 17 Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. 18 They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. 19 They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. 20 But that is not the way you learned Christ! 21 assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in

6 him, as the truth is in Jesus, 22 Put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires,. 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. 25 Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. 26 Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and give no opportunity to the devil. 28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. 29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. 1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. A This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. Alleluia and Verse The Holy Gospel: John 6:35-51 (ESV) P The Holy Gospel according to St. John the 6 th chapter. 35 Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never

7 cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. 41 So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, I am the bread that came down from heaven. 42 They said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, I have come down from heaven? 43 Jesus answered them, Do not grumble among yourselves. 44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets, And they will all be taught by God. Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me 46 not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father. 47 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh. P This is the Gospel of the Lord. The Apostles Creed C I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn of the Day LSB 528, Oh, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing Sermon Text: John 6:35-51 (ESV) Sermon Theme: Jesus, The Living Bread From Heaven Offertory 8 Gathering of Tithes & Offerings and Record of Fellowship Musical Offering Prayer of the Church P In peace, let us pray to the Lord: C Lord, have mercy. P For the whole Church, that by the Spirit s power all the baptized may become imitators of God as beloved children and walk in love, let us pray to the Lord: C Lord, have mercy. P For this congregation, that we be given grace to believe that through Christ we belong to one another and so be done with all falsehood

9 and malice, instead speaking Christ s truth to one another, let us pray to the Lord: C Lord, have mercy. P For our president and Congress and justices, for our governor and legislature and judges, and for all entrusted with public health and safety, that they be strengthened and upheld in every good deed and that God would hinder all in our common life that grieves Him, let us pray to the Lord: C Lord, have mercy. P For those who walk through difficult and dark times, the sick, the lonely, the grieving, the injured, the persecuted, that they may know the peace of Christ s promise that whoever comes to Him will never be cast out, and that all who look to Him and believe will have eternal life and be raised up at the Last Day, let us pray to the Lord: C Lord, have mercy. P For all those who come to partake of the flesh and blood of Him whom the Father sent here at this altar, that receiving in faith that which was offered for the life of the world, they may be filled with joy inexpressible and full of glory, let us pray to the Lord: C Lord, have mercy. P For the faithful departed, let us offer to Christ, the bread of life, all thanks and praise, asking Him to bring us to see with them in His glorious light the fulfillment of His promise that whoever believes has eternal life, let us pray to the Lord: C Lord, have mercy. Special Intercessory Prayers - from pink colored insert... P Lord, in your mercy, C hear our prayer. P Father, into Your hands we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy, through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever C Amen Service of the Sacrament

Preface P The Lord be with you. 10 P Lift up your hearts. P Let us give thanks unto the Lord our God. Meet means fitting, proper P It is truly meet, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who on this day overcame death and the grave and by His glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying: Sanctus

11 Lord's Prayer (Note: in Divine Service 3, it is only the pastor who speaks the Lord s Prayer. The congregation joins in singing the conclusion.) P Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. The Words of Our Lord P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: "Take, eat; this is My T body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me." In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: "Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." Pax Domini P The peace of the Lord be with you always.

Agnus Dei 12 Distribution of Christ s Body and Blood In the Sacrament of the Altar, we receive the real, genuine body and blood of Jesus Christ, which hung on the cross and flowed from his veins. Participation in The Sacrament is limited to those who are active members in good standing in a congregation of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod or a congregation of a church body which is in altar and pulpit fellowship with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, or who have spoken personally to the pastor. Members of other Christian denominations who are present may come forward to receive a blessing from the Pastor during the distribution. It is requested that you cross your arms over your chest to indicate that you desire this blessing. Those who desire to receive the sacrament are to be fully repentant of all sin in their lives. If you are unrepentant of any sin, we ask that you refrain from receiving the Sacrament and speak with the Pastor.
