Job Profile JOB TITLE GROUP TEAM LOCATION RESPONSIBLE TO Scotland Youth & Young Adult Manager Global Fundraising Group Scotland Glasgow Head of Church Development (Scotland) PART 1 JOB DESCRIPTION 1.0 PURPOSE OF THE TEAM Tearfund Scotland exists to engage people across the nation in the work of Tearfund, through giving, advocacy, prayer and lifestyle change. We are part of the Global Fundraising Group within the wider organisation, and work with our colleagues in our headquarters to grow Tearfund s influence and support base in Scotland. This post is part of a small sub-team which specifically manages our engagement with Scottish churches, including youth and young adults, volunteer management and event organising. 2.0 MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB The purpose of the Scotland Youth & Young Adult Manager is to develop and implement a strategy that will inspire and mobilise youth and young adults in Scotland (typically aged 11-25) to make a whole-life response to poverty through Tearfund, including giving, advocacy, prayer and lifestyle change. This will include building relationships within youth leaders and youth networks across Scotland, organising youth-oriented events and activities, writing relevant materials, communicating about the values and work of Tearfund and inspiring young people and young adults towards a holistic lifestyle change. The post holder is expected to act as a high profile voice and face of Tearfund within the Scottish youth ministry sector. 3.0 POSITION IN ORGANISATION This is a key role within Tearfund in Scotland, reporting into the Head of Church Development (Scotland) and as part of the Scotland Churches Team. The post holder will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategy for engaging with young people and young adults and will involve close working with the Youth and Emerging Generation team and colleagues across the UK. 4.0 SCOPE OF JOB 1. Participate in the Spiritual life of Tearfund 5.0 DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Develop and implement a youth engagement strategy that will mobilise Scottish young people and young adults to make a whole life response to poverty through Tearfund, including giving, prayer, advocacy and lifestyle change Work alongside the Head of Church Development (Scotland), and in liaison with the UK Youth and Young Adult Manager, to develop a strategy for how Tearfund engage, inspire and motivate young people and young adults to make a whole life response to poverty Identify and capitalise on new opportunities by consulting those in the field of youth work in Scotland Work with colleagues across the organisation in order to ensure the Scotland strategy is in line with that of the whole organisation Set ambitious but achievable targets, and use appropriate tools to measure their success 2. Build and develop relationships and partnerships with key youth leaders, gatekeepers, youth organisations and youth networks across Scotland Identify and participate in various youth-related networks in Scotland Develop relationships with various gatekeepers and youth leaders in Scotland in order to inform them of Tearfund s work and opportunities to be involved, using existing contacts where appropriate Create new platforms for Tearfund s work to be showcased in the youth and young adult sector 3. Organise, plan and deliver a range of youth-oriented activities Provide detailed activity plans with intended outcomes and budgets Liaise with venues, caterers, volunteers and participants in order to ensure the smooth running of events Adapt to unexpected scenarios and changes to plans at short notice 4. TEARFUND INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS JOB TITLE: Scotland Youth and Young Adult Manager OFFICE HOURS: Standard hours are Monday to Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm with one hour for lunch. 28 hour working week. Flexibility is required around the role, including evening and weekend work. TRAVEL: The role will involve extensive travel around Scotland, periodic travel to London and occasional travel overseas ANNUAL LEAVE - FULL YEAR: 25 days pro-rata + statutory bank hols + additional days at Christmas SICK LEAVE SCHEME: Based on length of service NON-CONTRIBUTORY PENSION SCHEME: Tearfund will contribute 10% of your salary to your pension. All staff are contractually enrolled onto the Tearfund group pension scheme NEW STAFF SERVICE: 6 months probationary period with a 3 month review Grade: 3 SALARY: 32,622 per annum full time equivalent 26,098 per annum part time equivalent
