VII. Resolutions and Petitions RESOLUTIONS ON DISCONTINUANCE 1. BERRY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH October 12, 2016 Whereas the Berry United Methodist Church ("Berry UMC") of Harrison County, Kentucky, in the Northern Kentucky District has discontinued being used, kept or maintained as a United Methodist Church: and Whereas, the remaining members have voted to discontinue Berry UMC at a Church Conference held on August 22, 2016, and Whereas, the District Building and Locations Committee consents to the discontinuance; and Whereas, District Superintendent Owen Dolin recommends that, following the discontinuation of Berry UMC, all real and personal property currently held in trust by Berry UMC be transferred pursuant to the provisions of Paragraph 2549 of the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, 2012 Edition ("Discipline") and Standing Rule 21 of the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, Inc. ("Kentucky Annual Conference"); and Whereas, the Appointive Cabinet of the Kentucky Annual Conference concurs with the recommendation to discontinue said Berry UMC of the Northern Kentucky District; Now therefore, it is hereby RESOLVED this 12th day of October 2016 that the Berry UMC of the Northern Kentucky District is hereby discontinued pursuant to the provisions of Paragraphs 2515 and 2549 of the Discipline. The Kentucky Annual Conference Trustees are hereby authorized to assume control of all property; real, personal, tangible and intangible property of said church; and to sell the real property of said church in compliance with the provisions of the Discipline and Standing Rule 21, with the proceeds from the sale of all property to be used for church extension at the discretion of the Northern Kentucky District Superintendent and the Northern Kentucky District Committee on Building and Location. Be it further resolved that the members of Berry UMC may select the transferring of their membership to the United Methodist church of their choice, pursuant to Paragraph 229 of the Discipline.
2. CYRUS CHAPEL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH February 28, 2017 Whereas, the Cyrus Chapel United Methodist Church, located in Boyd County of the Kentucky East District, Charge Conference voted to close on February 14, 2017; Therefore, be it resolved that the Cyrus Chapel United Methodist Church be discontinued by approval of Bishop Fairley and the Appointive Cabinet and that the property both tangible and intangible, pursuant to the provisions of Paragraph 2549 of the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, 2016 Edition and Standing Rules of the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, Inc.; be received by the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and the tangible property be sold with the proceeds from the sale along with cash assets be deposited in the New Church Development fund of the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church Kentucky East District. Remaining membership shall be transferred to the church of their choice. 3. NEW BUCK CREEK UNITED METHODIST CHURCH March 21, 2017 Whereas the New Buck Creek United Methodist Congregation ceased meeting for worship and all other church activities in 2010; Therefore, be it resolved that the New Buck Creek United Methodist Church be discontinued, the property be sold and all assets of the church be deposited according to the process outlined in the Book of Discipline and as designated by the Trustees of the Annual Conference.
4. HELENA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH June 11, 2017 Whereas, the Helena United Methodist Church ("Helena UMC") of Mason County, Kentucky, in the Northern Kentucky District no longer serves the purpose for which it was organized; and Whereas, Helena UMC no longer had any funds and only had three (3) active members, and was therefore closed on May 1, 2017; Whereas, the District Building and Locations Committee consents to the closure; and Whereas, the Northern Kentucky District Superintendent, Owen Dolin, recommends the closure of Helena UMC. Now therefore, it is hereby resolved this 11 th day of June 2017: Exigent circumstances exist that require the immediate protection of the local church's property for the benefit of the denomination in that Helena UMC no longer serves the purpose for which it was organized. Title to all real and personal property, tangible and intangible, currently held in trust by Helena UMC is vested in the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, Inc. ("Kentucky Annual Conference"); pursuant to the provisions of, Paragraph 2549 of The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, 2016 Edition; The Kentucky Annual Conference's Board of Trustees may hold or dispose of the property in its sole discretion, or as directed herein by the Bishop and Appointed Cabinet, with the proceeds of any sale being distributed pursuant to Paragraph 2549 and Standing Rule 21. The Bishop and District Superintendents of the Kentucky Annual Conference concur with the recommendation to close Helena UMC of the Northern Kentucky District as indicated by their signature below. Any remaining members of Helena UMC may select to transfer their membership to the United Methodist church of their choice, pursuant to Paragraph 229 of the Discipline.
5. PLEASANT GROVE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH June 11, 2017 Whereas the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church ("Pleasant Grove UMC") of Kenton County, Kentucky, in the Northern Kentucky District no longer serves the purpose for which it was organized; and Whereas, the remaining members have voted to close Pleasant Grove UMC at a Charge Conference held on November 20, 2016 and Whereas, the District Building and Locations Committee consents to the closure; and Whereas, the Northern Kentucky District Superintendent, Owen Dolin, recommends the closure of Pleasant Grove UMC. Now therefore, it is hereby resolved this 11 th day of June 2017 that the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church have exigent circumstances that exist that require the immediate protection of the local church s property for the benefit of the denomination in that Pleasant Grove UMC no longer serves the purpose for which it was organized. CAMPGROUND UNITED METHODIST CHURCH October 9, 2017 Whereas the Campground United Methodist Church ("Campground UMC") of Laurel County, Kentucky, in the South East Kentucky District no longer serves the purpose for which it was organized: and Whereas, the remaining members have voted to close Campground UMC at a Charge Conference, and Whereas, there are no longer any active members of Campground UMC, Whereas, the District Building and Locations Committee consents to the closure; and Whereas, the South East Kentucky District Superintendent, Karen Stigall, recommends the closure of Campground UMC. Now therefore, it is hereby RESOLVED this 11th day of June 2017 that exigent circumstances exist that require the immediate protection of the local church s property for the benefit of the denomination in that Campground UMC no longer serves the purpose for which it was organized. Title to all real and personal property, tangible and intangible, currently held in trust by Campground UMC is vested in the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, Inc. ( Kentucky Annual Conference ); pursuant to the provisions of 2549 of The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, 2016 Edition; The Kentucky Annual Conference s Board of Trustees may hold or dispose of the property in its sole discretion, or as directed herein by the Bishop and Appointed Cabinet, with the proceeds of any sale being distributed pursuant to 2549 and Standing Rule 21. RESOLUTION ON MERGER 7. PISGAH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH April 30, 2017 Resolution for merger: Whereas, the Pisgah United Methodist Church, in order to more effectively fulfill their ministry, desires to merge with Grand Rivers United Methodist Church; Whereas, the Grand Rivers United Methodist Church feels that this merger will help both churches more effectively fulfill their ministry and looks forward to receiving Pisgah's members with loving open arms; Whereas, at duly constituted church conferences, Pisgah United Methodist Church voted on February 26, 2017, to merge with Grand Rivers United Methodist Church; and Grand Rivers United Methodist Church voted to merge with Pisgah United Methodist Church on March 26, 2017; BE IT RESOLVED THAT these two congregations shall merge to form one single congregation of The United Methodist Church, in accordance with Paragraph 2546 of The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church, as set forth in the following plan of merger: The name of the new congregation shall be Grand Rivers Pisgah United Methodist Church. All real and personal property of both churches will be transferred to the Grand Rivers Pisgah United Methodist Church. The members of both churches will become members of the Grand Rivers Pisgah United Methodist Church. The effective date of merger will be April 30, 2017.
