An Encouraging Word by George Clark We ve smelled the smoke here in Knoxville this fall as wildfires have burned throughout the drought plagued southeast. But last night a fire raced down from the Chimneys in the Smoky Mountains forcing residents and vacationers to evacuate Gatlinburg, Dollywood, and part of Pigeon Forge. Condos, cabins, restaurants, a school, probably more have burned. No power. No cell phones. Wind and burning trees took out lines. Traffic jams and panic added to the confusion. Hundreds of fire fighters choked through smoke to save lives and property. At the time I m writing this, the full extent of the devastation isn t known. Fire came unexpectedly, even though there d been warning signs. A fire at Walland burned hundreds of acres and evacuated their elementary school. Thick smoke filled the whole Tennessee Valley from fires in Georgia and North Carolina. Still, most people thought, Nothing to worry about. Those are far away. Nothing s going to happen to us. Dean Nester s message last Sunday was excellent: Enjoy Life! Joy is a fruit of the Spirit in us! I love it when people have a positive outlook. But what is the basis? Some say, I don t need to base positivity on anything. I just sing: Don t worry. Be happy. But that isn t what Dean was preaching. The all powerful, all loving God is the only trustworthy basis of joy. Trusting Him, we have reason to enjoy life and not worry. However, I pray no one reading this will go whistling through life, ignoring God. He has warned, (II Peter 3:10) The day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. v.14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with Him! So be sure to put your life in His hands every day, and then enjoy Him forever!
Merry Christmas..for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11
