Sacred Heart of Jesus 913-422-5520 school.shoj.org Catholic School August 31, 2018 Upcoming Events Dear Families, I love the power of prayer. Growing up at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel whose feast day is July 16, I remember praying a novena each year with the parish. We would all meet and pray the rosary outside the small outdoor chapel the 9 days leading up to the feast day. I learned that novenas were powerful and for important things. I prayed the Novena to St. Therese the Little Flower when my dad was diagnosed with cancer. I was not able to be with them on the day to plan the treatment, but it was the ninth day of my novena and I received a card in the mail that was a field of blooming flowers. When my family called with the optimistic news, I told them that I already knew it was good news because St. Therese had answered my Novena by sending flowers. NOVENA PRAYER from America Needs Fatima Website Hail Mary Prayer: Your Nativity, O Virgin Mother of God, was the herald of joy to the whole world; since from you arose the Sun of Justice, Christ our God, who, destroying the curse, bestowed the blessing, and confounding death, rewarded us with life everlasting. V. Let us celebrate with joy the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary. R. That she may intercede for us with Our Lord Jesus Christ. Let us pray: Grant to us your servants, we beseech you, O Lord, the gift of Your heavenly grace, that as our salvation was begun in the child-bearing of the Blessed Virgin, so from this solemn festival of her Nativity may we obtain an increase of peace. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. Since then I have prayed many novenas. One very rainy field day, the entire school prayed the emergency novena of 9 Memorares. There was no rain on our field day. We celebrate the Nativity of Mary on September 8. I would encourage you to pray the following Novena for the next nine days for our church. I love using the resource, praymorenovenas.com because they send them to your inbox as reminders and plan ahead for special feast days. Teach your kids the power of prayer.
