Abbadon - The Beast of the Abyss By Asenath Mason & Temple of Ascending Flame The workings were part of the Open Project in April 2017 This series of workings is centered on Abbadon, the Beast of the Pit, his aspect of the Destroyer, and his role in exploration of the Shadow Self on the Path of the Dragon. It contains 4 workings which have to be done on 4 days in a row, at any hour of the evening/night. The first meditation will open gateways for the current of Abbadon to enter your personal temple, and the following three workings will bring you into confrontation with your Shadow Self, based on the pattern of death-burial-resurrection as a self-initiatory ritual for embracing the mysteries of the Abyss. The purpose of the whole working is to introduce the practitioner to the gnosis of Abbadon as the Beast of the Pit and the Destroyer, representing the consciousness of the adversary as a tool of individual transcendence. Before the rituals: Prepare your ritual space in the way you feel it is suitable for this work. For the workings of this project you will need the following items: A black candle. You can have more to light up the room as well, and red candles are needed in the first working. The sigil of Abbadon. It should be painted in black on a golden or red background. Incense. The recommended choice is Dragon s Blood or Musk. A tool to draw blood. This can be a dagger, knife, razor, lancet, etc., and it is enough to draw a few drops only, no larger amounts are needed. Blood of the practitioner is a vital component of this work, as it opens inner gateways within your consciousness and serves as a symbolic act of self-sacrifice, leaving place for initiation and transformation. You can make the blood offering on each day of the project, or you can do it only on the first day to activate the sigil - this is up to you. You can also perform the workings without blood at all, but it is not recommended. Chalice filled with the Sacrament. Preferably, this should be red wine representing the Blood of the Dragon, but if you cannot drink alcohol, feel free to replace it with another drink of red color and rich taste. It will only be needed for the last day. Abbadon Like many words from ancient history, the word Abaddon means a particular place in the ancient world, and it was only centuries later it became known as an angel, specifically an angel known as the Destroyer, or, more accurately, an angel of death. However, as is true with many similar beings, there is a lot more to this being than just those ideas, and in this project we will explore an overall archetype that correlates with him. In short, he is the beast of destruction and is the king of an army of locusts. This immediately shows us a connection between him and Beelzebub, and there is also a connection with Belial present, in that a reference to Abaddon can be found and the torrents of Belial. Immediately on the surface, when knowing this, we have a bar of comparison and correspondences to use when working with Abaddon. Therefore, let us turn our attention to a higher spiritual perspective of what this very interesting deity can teach us and assist us with on a daily and personal basis. Periodically through life we find ourselves in positions and situations that cause us to readdress and reevaluate where and who we are. When we gain a clear perspective, we make choices in line with what needs to be done, and we make appropriate changes. As you can see, in this way, Abaddon is closely related to the destroyer aspect of Shiva, and this is the first key to understanding the gnosis Abaddon brings. ~1~ Temple of Ascending Flame 2017 / ascendingflame.com

Abaddon brings about death and destruction, and you can take this as literally or figuratively as is appropriate. Hence when we know it is time to make major changes to our life, it is Abaddon that can be of great assistance. We gain further insight into how this will occur by taking a closer look at some of his other correspondences, like the ones listed above. The angel of death title is self-explanatory, so let us turn our attention to the locusts. Innocuous at first, the locusts actually give us great insight into how we can expect the changes brought into our life through Abaddon to manifest. When we execute a ritual to Abaddon to bring about destruction and change, we should be aware that the manifestations will swarm through our lives like a plague. Changes will start small, but will become numerous and eventually will accumulate. As this occurs in our life, we begin to disintegrate and break down, but this is not as fatal as it appears, as what is being broken down is that which no longer serves us, and that which needs to be recycled. When we make ourselves aware of this, we also realize that a subtle and esoteric correspondence of Abaddon is actually that of a resurrecting god, so we see that true, he is death, but he is also that which is dead and buried, and can be resurrected. What makes him different than other resurrected gods though, is that there is more emphasis on the destruction aspect than rebirth. While this may seem frivolous, it is actually quite profound, and leads us to another esoteric correspondence of Abaddon; that of the dweller on the threshold. Any time we make severe changes in our lives, our shadow side is what both propels us and arises from the pit to be faced. One of the meanings of this is that sometimes Abaddon can be a gatekeeper for us to address when we work with our Shadow Self. This can be in a few different capacities, as we may find him very helpful in the role of the psychopomp, acting as a soul guide through the dark night of the soul. We may also find him helpful when facing our dweller on the threshold, or perhaps he is our dweller on the threshold. This last point would also clarify why he is known as a place of destruction, because it is by walking through the place of destruction we are purified after dealing with what we have to in order to grow. This is not an overt correspondence of Abaddon, yet it is one of the more valuable parts of his character. The Shadow Self is the accumulation of all of the parts of ourselves that are suppressed, underdeveloped, or in some other way impairs our greatest growth and good. Over time, and because of our intentional ignorance of these things, they gain power, and eventually we have to surmount a great deal of energy that has been created through our own actions or inactions. Modern psychology addresses this through focusing on psychological patterning, but it fails to take into account the sentience associated with the power of these concepts and their impressions on our psyche. Abaddon can be of great assistance here by working with us to face these issues and to come out on top. However, the trap that exists is that this will be an easy facing, but in reality that is not the case. What separates him from other psychopomp entities is that he will point blankly bring things up in the most direct manner so that they can be addressed. For those that are serious about facing their shadow, Abaddon is the way to go, but for those that may find it too painful to face these things directly, he may seem like the devil himself, and I say that with all manner of jest because there are many references in ancient texts to a parallel between him and the role of the adversary, which is generally occupied by Lucifer and Satan. This point of fact is also interesting to note because it draws a strong corollary to the role of Choronzon in modern occultism, as being the personification of the shadow. Thus we can work with Abaddon and Choronzon in similar fashions, but the difference between the two is that Abaddon is the Beast of the Pit, the Destroyer, whereas Choronzon is a gateway to the Other Side. Otherwise the two are very parallel, and thus you can work with one to understand the other. In this project, we will be taking a closer look at how to work with Abaddon in ways that can assist our greatest growth and good, but take heed that this is the most direct route to dealing with these energies, and because of this, he can be quite the handful! ~2~ Temple of Ascending Flame 2017 / ascendingflame.com

The sigil of Abbadon Day 1 Alignment to Abbadon This ritual is designed to draw in the essence of Abbadon, and connect to his current. Apart from three red altar candles, you will need the black candle, strong incense, a dagger, and a tool to draw blood. Light the altar candles, then the incense. Light the black candle and say: I honor the un-nameable one. Begin standing or seated by raising the fire serpent (Kundalini fire) in the spine. Coordinate this with your breathing so that with each exhalation the fire serpent moves higher, heating and opening the chakras along the way. First the base, and ending in the third eye. When the fire snake reaches the third eye, draw some blood and mark your forehead while intoning: ODO A OOA DE A UIME 1 Take your dagger and draw a triangle with the apex pointing down in the air above your altar. See the triangle glowing in a red color. Raise both hands and say: Hail the mighty dragon, lord of the endless depth. TOREZODU! 2 Destroyer and devourer, ruling over furies and locusts. NIIS! 3 1 Open the eye of the dragon/serpent 2 Arise! 3 Come! ~3~ Temple of Ascending Flame 2017 / ascendingflame.com

Mighty warrior and keeper of the keys to endless knowledge ABBATON, OL VINO ELASA. Infuse my blood with your essence A A DOOAIN DE A UIME! 4 Sit comfortably, place the sigil in front of you. Drop some blood onto the sigil, and gaze into it. While gazing into the sigil, repeat the following mantra 11 times: ODO A ORESA ABBATON 5 Send your intent through the sigil. Visualize an energetic connection between your third eye and the sigil, infusing it with sublime fire energy, rendering it alive. When you are ready to carry on, close your eyes and see the sigil in your mind s eye. See it glowing in an appropriate color: colors associated with the destroyer are black, red and green. Visualizing the sigil with the third eye creates the effect of a door or portal that opens to Abbadon himself, and his current. See the portal opening, revealing the dark God and his mysteries. Let the visions flow freely. Do not try to force the experience. After communing with Abbadon, return to your normal waking consciousness. Document the experience. Extinguish the black candle and say: As above, so below. Day 2 Death Begin this working in the same way as the meditation on the first day: light the candles, burn the incense, and put the sigil in front of you. Then sit in a comfortable position and focus all your attention on the image. Again, gaze into it, visualizing that the sigil becomes a gateway to the current of Abaddon. See it grow in front of you, forming into the swirling vortex of darkness, and chant the words of calling: "Abbadon, Lord of Death, I surrender to you and I seek to be transformed through your dark mysteries. Consume me in your black flames and let me be reborn as my own shadow! As you keep chanting, feel how the atmosphere around you shifts and becomes charged with the energies flowing through the sigil. These energies envelop around you like a black swirling vortex, pulling you in. Let it happen. Blow out candles and continue the working in complete darkness. Close your eyes and for a moment become as one with the darkness around you. Then visualize yourself in a dark place - a temple, crypt, room, wilderness, etc. Do not force anything - let the vision build in your mind by itself. You are alone there, but you can sense a presence lurking in the shadows. This presence is your Shadow Self - your friend, enemy, ally, adversary - it is all that at the same time. Think of what you fear the most, or what you see as an obstacle on your path or your personal enemy/adversary. This is not about visualizing other people as your enemies but parts of yourself - something that you feel is preventing you in succeeding in your carrier, magic, love, or life in general. This can be your weakness, fear, addiction, doubt, indecisiveness, laziness, etc. This should be something personal, so feel free to focus on whatever you want. It can be one thing, or if there is more, focus on all that you can think of. Then visualize it as your adversary emerging from the darkness around you - your Shadow Self. You can envision your adversary as a dark or monstrous version of yourself, in a bestial shape - a dragon or another beast, a being in a hooded robe - with the face hidden 4 In the name of the dragon/serpent 5 Open the darkness Abbadon ~4~ Temple of Ascending Flame 2017 / ascendingflame.com

and unseen, or simply as a shadow figure. When you build this image in your mind, surrender to your Shadow Self - visualize that the beast kills you, rips you to pieces, devours you, etc. Let it happen and do not fight. Feel the beast consuming you and liberating you from all that you are. At this point let the experience flow freely, and when you feel ready to end the meditation, return to your normal consciousness, thank Abbadon with a few personal words, and close the working for the day. Pay attention to how this consciousness may affect your dreams and your reality on the following day, before performing the next working. You may feel a sense of dispersion and anxiety, which is a natural part of the death/dissolution process. Do not struggle. Embrace it and open yourself to any manifestations of this work that may come to you. Write down your observations. Day 3 26th April Burial Like the day before, start the meditation by preparing the temple, candles, incense, and the sigil. Again, sit in a comfortable position and put the sigil in front of you, focusing all your attention on the image. Visualize it as a gate to the current of the Beast of the Abyss, and at the same time chant the words of calling: Abbadon, Beast of the Abyss, guide me through the underworld of my soul and show me my strength and my weakness! Keep chanting until you sense that the atmosphere in your temple has changed and you feel ready to continue the working. Blow out the candles, close your eyes, and return to the pit where you have met your Shadow Self. Think of what happened in the previous working. Visualize that you are now inside the Beast of the Pit, consumed by Abbadon, and liberated from all that you are in your mundane reality. Let go of everything - your mundane personality, identity, strength, control, confidence, desires, fears, etc. You are nothing, you have nothing, and you want nothing. You are dead and buried in the darkness of the pit. This may feel disturbing at first, but then you should be able to find freedom and selfawareness in this experience. From this point let the visions flow freely and open yourself to whatever your Shadow Self may want to show or teach you. When you feel ready to end the meditation, close the working for the day, but remain in this state of heightened awareness until the next day s working and observe how it affects your perception of the world, interactions with your environment, and dreams. Explore this consciousness and write down your observations. Day 4 Resurrection Follow the same steps as in the previous meditation: prepare your temple, sit in a comfortable position, and focus all your attention on the sigil. This time prepare the chalice with the Sacrament as well. Again, visualize the sigil as a gateway to the current of Abbadon, and at the same time chant the following words of calling: Abbadon, Destroyer and Adversary, let me find strength in weakness and rise reborn as the Beast of the Pit! Like before, keep chanting until you sense that the atmosphere in your ritual space has changed and the vortex of darkness pulls you back into the pit. Then blow out the candles, close your eyes, and return to ~5~ Temple of Ascending Flame 2017 / ascendingflame.com

lair of Abbadon. Visualize yourself in complete darkness, inside the body of the beast. You have died and surrendered to your weaknesses - your personal adversaries on the path, but you have also found freedom and self-awareness in death and the underworld of your soul. By this point you should already know how to transform your weakness into strength, and you are now ready to face your adversary. If you are not, you need to go back to the working of the previous day. If, however, you have found the solution to your issues, visualize now that you stand face to face with your Shadow Self again. This time you are in control, and you can defeat and devour your adversary. Visualize it however you want you can kill your shadow and absorb it into yourself, embrace it as your friend, or even envision it becoming your lover. Feel how you and your shadow merge into one and you become the Beast of the Abyss yourself. This is a feeling of being powerful and ready to devour anything that stands in your way. Focus on this feeling for a while, and then light the candles again. Drink the Sacrament, visualizing that you are drinking the Blood of the Dragon, and feel how it flows through your veins, filling you with living fire. Look back at your visions and experiences from the previous days and meditate on what they mean to you and how they may affect your path. Thank Abbadon for his assistance, and close the whole project with a few personal words. The workings were prepared by Asenath Mason, with contributions from Eduard Horn ("Alignment to Abbadon") and Bill Duvendack ( Abbadon ). ~6~ Temple of Ascending Flame 2017 / ascendingflame.com
