From Dan to Beersheba Led by Paul & Hilary Marshall Friday 29th June - Saturday 7th July 2012 We invite you to join us on a trip you will never forget, retrace Jesus journeys through Galilee, the Judean Desert and Jerusalem. Walk the city where He was crucified, buried and resurrected and the highlight; to stand on the Mount of Olives where He will return. This will be our 19th tour and every time it is different so come expecting!

INTRODUCTION Our theme of this year s tour, From Dan to Beersheba is the Old Testament reference to the whole land of Israel and the God given home of the Jews. It s a place of great diversity in its history, customs and culture all of which we will experience. We will be covering the unique history of the Patriarchs through to the establishment of the modern state of Israel. See the huge differences in terrain, from the desert to lush mountain forests. The trip will be full of variety and will reveal the bible as never seen before. From Dan to Beersheba DAY 1 - Friday We depart from London Heathrow on our day flight to Tel Aviv. On arrival we will be transferred to our Hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight. DAY 2 - Saturday - Walking in His Footsteps The morning starts on the Mount of Olives with its spectacular views across Jerusalem and The Old City. From here we walk down Palm Sunday Road retracing Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem and visiting Dominus Flavit (where Jesus wept over Jerusalem). We will spend time gazing over the city before descending into the Garden of Gethsemane to consider Jesus last 24 hours. We continue down through the Kidron Valley with the towering walls of the Temple Mount above before our ascent into the Old City. Next

the Church of St Peter where the apostle denied his friend Jesus three times, from here we see the original steps Jesus walked up from the Lower City (City of David) to the House of Caiaphas the High Priest. After lunch we walk on the Walls of the Old City to the Damascus gate, followed by an easy clamber down into Solomon s Quarries, huge caverns below the old city from where stones were cut for building of the 1st Holy Temple. The day finishes at the Garden Tomb where we share communion and consider the importance of what took place here. Optional - After dinner we walk to the Western Wall, you can take time to pray, or just absorb the atmosphere of this unique place. Dinner and overnight - Jerusalem DAY 3 - Sunday - David to Jesus We start at the recently excavated ruins of the City of David to uncover the secrets of biblical Jerusalem; walk in the footsteps of kings and prophets at the site where many of the stories of the Bible took place. For those wanting a challenge we walk through Hezekiah s Tunnel, carved out of solid rock to bring water into the city in 716 B.C. its wet and dark, but great fun. The tunnel comes out at the Pool of Siloam, where Jesus told the blind man to wash his eyes and he would see. The Uniqueness of Israel Next we drive to Yad Vashem the Holocaust Memorial Museum, a must for all visitors to Israel. We take a short walk through the woods up to Mount Herzl to visit the graves and remember those modern day Jews who were so instrumental in bringing about the state of Israel. Next we visit... you have made this tour the best thing that has ever happened to me in my life and I will never forget a single moment. Heiner - Germany

the Herzl Museum the founder of The World Zionist Organization with a spectacular audio-visual encounter with the visionary of the Jewish State. The rest of the afternoon is free. Optional - After dinner we walk to the Western Wall, you can take time to pray, or just absorb the atmosphere of this unique place. DAY 4 - Monday - Abraham to Jesus We begin with a visit to the hill top fortress of Herodium site of the recently discovered tomb of King Herod. From here we can see across the hills to Bethlehem - birthplace of King David and Jesus, followed by a visit to the Shepherds Fields from where the angel told them a Saviour would be born, He is Christ the Lord. Next - Hebron (subject to political situation), to visit the Tombs of the Patriarchs, the burial site of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and their wives. This was also where King David ruled for seven years before capturing Jerusalem. Onto the Archaeological Park, the original location for the biblical town of Beersheba, listed as a World Heritage Site and offers visitors a look into life in the times of the Patriarchs. We will visit Abrahams Well where Abraham father of the Israelites, dug a well as part of his covenant with King Abimelech of Gerar, it was also the place where both Isaac and his son Jacob lived. The journey back to Jerusalem will take us through the Judean desert; we will spend time experiencing the peace and solitude in this amazing landscape. DAY 5 - Tuesday - Jerusalem - Past, Present & Future We visit the Davidson Centre for a film presentation of Jerusalem in the time of Jesus, before a short tour of the Southern Wall Excavations of the Temple Mount to stand on the steps He took to enter the temple. Next the Temple Institute where the articles of the Temple Treasures are being recreated for use in the third Temple when restored. After lunch in the Jewish Quarter we go to the Western Wall Tunnel archaeological site of 1st century Jerusalem at its best, get within a few metres of the site of the Holy of Holies.

Optional - After dinner walk to the Mount of Olives to overlook the Garden of Gethsemane and consider Jesus final hours and arrest. Day 6 - Wednesday - From the Depths to the Heights We leave Jerusalem and drive down to the lowest place on the face of the earth for an early morning swim or float in the Dead Sea. Driving through the Judean desert we pass Jericho the oldest inhabited city in the world to start our tour of the Hills of Samaria. First stop will be Shiloh, the town where the tabernacle was set up after the conquest of Canaan. Samuel grew up and served here under the care of Eli. We move on to Shechem and Jacob s Well, where Jacob bought a plot of land for a hundred pieces of silver Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman. We drive to the top of Mount Gerizim with its magnificent views across to Samaria which used to be the capital of the Northern kingdom of Israel. After Jesus death and resurrection Phillip went there to preach the gospel and was followed by Peter and John. Dinner and overnight - Tiberias Our hotel is on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, ideal location for an after dinner stroll by the lake that Jesus knew so well. DAY 7 - Thursday - Galilee & Dan We start today on the Mount of Beatitudes, the traditional site of the Sermon on the Mount, a magnificent setting overlooking the Galilee. We continue north through the Golan Heights

to Caesarea Philippi with a beautiful walk through the Banius Nature Reserve and see the waterfalls which are the eastern source of the river Jordan. Here Peter confessed Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of the living God. We continue up towards Mount Hermon and the hill country of the tribe of Dan with a visit to Nimrod Fortress. During the Crusader period it guarded the main road from Damascus, and is one of the largest and most impressive fortresses in Israel. The panoramic views are spectacular looking across to the borders with Syria and Lebanon. DAY 8 - Friday - Galilee The day will not have a set itinerary but will include visits to Capernaum, the centre of Jesus ministry, to see the early Synagogue and Peter s House. We will also visit St Peter s Primacy, the traditional site where Jesus appeared to Peter after his resurrection, Kursi, and Chorazin. The rest of the afternoon is free to relax around the pool, go shopping or just do your own thing. Before dinner we take a 2-hour boat trip across the Sea of Galilee to watch the sunset while listening to some wonderful music. On previous trips this has proved to be one of the highlights of the tour. DAY 9 - Saturday - Lower Galilee After an early breakfast we leave for the Nazareth Village. This location offers you exactly what you come to the Holy Land for; to touch the time of Jesus, Every time I ve read my Bible since I got back home it has become a completely different experience. I find that I m almost inside it instead of just reading it. I wouldn t have missed going for the world.. thanks for making my trip to Israel the unforgettable time that it was. Mike South Wales
