FROM THE DESK OF THE PASTOR Dear friends in Christ, As I mentioned last week, we have all been affected by terrible evils committed by former Cardinal McCarrick and the abuse and cover-ups outlined in the Pennsylvania grand jury reports. It is terribly disturbing and disheartening, especially since we have been working as an Archdiocese now for many years to address these issues. Certainly we have not been free of such things here, however our Archdiocese has been addressing them for a lot longer. We will not be healthy, until the whole Church undergoes a purification of from these evils and is renewed. Always, our first concern must be for the victims of abuse and creating an environment where abuse is not tolerated or swept under the rug. Second, I want to assure you that our parish is committed to our safe environment programs and to do everything possible to maintain St. Jude as a safe place for children and youth. Finally, let us pray for the especially for all those affected by abuse and for purification and renewal in our Church. Below you will find a statement of Archbishop Sartain on these matters. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Johnson Statement of Archbishop J. Peter Sartain, August 17, 2018 Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report With the recent allegations of sexual abuse committed by Archbishop Theodore McCarrick, former Archbishop of Washington, D.C., and the release of a Grand Jury Report involving several dioceses in Pennsylvania, the tragedy of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church is once again brought to light. The sexual abuse of a minor is an intrinsic moral evil and a crime. Anyone responsible for such an act or for shielding those who do, including bishops and other Church leaders, must be held accountable for their actions. I join with other bishops from throughout Washington and the United States in expressing our sincere shame and remorse for the incredible harm these crimes have caused the victims and their families. The Catholic Church in Western Washington continues its focus on providing a safe environment for all minors and vulnerable adults in our care. Special procedures, training and reporting protocols were adopted in 1990. Our policies, training and procedures are reviewed frequently and have been updated several times. To report any suspicion of abuse by any Church personnel, please contact local law enforcement. In addition, anyone who has knowledge of sexual abuse or misconduct by a member of the clergy, an employee or volunteer of the Archdiocese of Seattle is urged to call the archdiocesan hotline at 1-800-446-7762. As Catholics, we believe that every life is sacred. Each person is created in the image and likeness of our loving God. Violence and abuse of any kind are unacceptable, and we have a serious responsibility to work towards their end. Together, we must do everything we possibly can to protect children. Around the Archdiocese The Importance of Our Giving I didn t become a priest to ask people for money, but I have a duty to promote stewardship and invite people to practice their faith and service. Fr. James Johnson Jesus asks us to make our mark on this world and to serve the Lord by sharing His gifts with others. A gift to Called to Serve as Christ is a way of doing so. Your gift to the campaign will take care of a retired priest, support a sister and provide assistance to your parish. Funding each of these goals with the financial resources we have been blessed with will, in turn, multiply those blessings back to us and to God. The Archdiocese of Seattle is fortunate to have thousands of Catholic families who actively participate in their faith life. We have an obligation to make our Archdiocese, and our world, better for those who follow us. We want to make the formative experience we received from our priests, sisters and parishes available to future generations. The Archdiocese of Seattle will soon invite all who believe in its mission to partner together to build a foundation for greatness. Our Lady of Vailankanni (Our Lady of Good Health Our Lady of Vailankanni is fondly known as the Our Lady of Good Health and Lourdes of the East because, like Lourdes in France, millions of pilgrims from all religions visit the Shrine throughout the year, praying to Our Lady for various needs and thanking her for the favors received through her intercession. Tradition recounts that Mother Mary appeared 3 times with the Infant Jesus in this small hamlet around the end of the 16th or in the early 17 th. Vailankanni, a hamlet on the sandy shores of the Bay of Bengal, is located 350 kilometers south of Chennai (Madras), a town on the coast of Bay of Bengal. It was referred by early writers and the Portuguese as the city of Coramandel (Imperial Gazetteer of India, XIX, 3). The birthday of our blessed mother (Sep 8 th ) is the feast day of Our Lady of Vailankanni, which draws millions of people to the shrine every year during the nine-day event. Here at MQP Sammamish, the Indian community has hosted the celebrating of this festival for the past 3 years. This year festival will be celebrated on Sep 8 th Saturday at 5 PM Mass. we re having the 9-day Novena to our Blessed Mother starting August 30 st 2018 at 6:30 PM in the chapel. We would like to welcome you all for the Novena and the feast day celebrations followed by a nice Indian Dinner. Please Support our Bulletin Advertisers Located on the back of our bulletin you have seen advertisements for local businesses including parishioners that have services that you may be able to use.
