LAKEVILLE CAMPUS K-2 LESSON Date: 10-4-17 Bible Lesson: Tower of Babel Memory Verse: Proverbs 19:21 Check In to Small Groups 6:15 6:35pm Welcome children, make sure everyone has been checked in and has a printed nametag Check in with students regarding their week so far Children can work on the Extra Activity sheets until all group members arrive. (Activity sheets will be in your folders) Transition to Large Group 6:35 6:40pm Please be aware that groups will be meeting in the CLC (Community Life Center), so as you arrive please be respectful of their space and the noise level. Large Group Gathering 6:40-7:05pm Please try to sit as a group. Transition to Small Group 7:05-7:10pm Small Group Application 7:10-7:25pm Build It! Worship Bracelets Wrap Up 7:25-7:30pm Memory Verse Dismissal 7:30pm Please do not dismiss any child without a parent or guardian pick up slip! Thanks!

It Starts with the Heart God created us to worship Him not only on our own, but also in community. In fact, when Scripture speaks of worship, it mostly speaks of worshipping within community. All of the Jewish feasts and festivals listed in Leviticus 23 were designated times for the community to gather together, remember what God had done throughout history, and thank Him for His continued faithfulness in their lives. Even in the New Testament, the apostles and new believers spent time worshipping together as a group. Notably, the Holy Spirit descended in Acts 2, when the apostles were all gathered together in the upper room. To prepare for this lesson, spend time worshipping with close friends, family members or other people in your faith community. Find a friend who plays an instrument, and sing hymns together. Take turns proclaiming God s name. Thank Him for His provision in your life and for the gifts of family and friendships He has given you. Remember together how wonderful it is to worship God in the context of a faith community. As you worship, pray for the children in your group to be inspired to worship God together. Pray their parents will lead their families into times of worship in their homes this week and throughout their lives.

K-2 AS CHILDREN ARE ARRIVING: Welcome each child and their family as they come in and introduce yourself as the Small Group Leader. Make sure every child has checked in and has a printed name tag. As the children are waiting for the rest of the group to arrive, they may work on an Extra Activity sheet. These sheets can be found in your folder. SHARE GOD MOMENTS: Take turns each week as children arrive sharing how you have seen or experienced God this past week. Get them in the habit of looking for the many ways God is communicating with us every day. Did they see Him, hear Him, feel Him, dream about Him, etc. Give Examples: I saw a beautiful painting and it reminded me that God gave each of us unique gifts and talents. I heard a song on the radio today that made me think about how much God loves all of us. PRAYER Ask for any prayer requests and have the children take turns praying for each other every week. Remind them of the Prayer Mailbox for private prayer requests, located at the Guest Service Desk by Door 3. They can also give them to you. PRAY TOGETHER Dear God, you deserve all of our praise. We worship only you God and know that everything that we are able to do is because of you. You are #1 and come first in our lives. Please help us to continue to seek out your name above all other things. Amen! Choose a Children s Leader Every week choose one child to be the Children s Leader for the evening. It should be a different child every week so that everyone has several turns to be the leader. It will be the CL s job to remind everyone of your group covenant and help the Small Group Leader with handing out supplies and making sure that everything gets put away properly at the end of the night. Example: making sure pens are all put back in the bag and zipped shut, throwing away garbage, etc. This will help teach and prepare our children to serve and be leaders for God s Kingdom. You may choose each week, which activities will work best for your group. Transition to Large Group LARGE GROUP PRESENTATION (CLC) Transition to Small group

Activity #1: Worship God Only Bracelet Supplies (all of these supplies will be in your bin.) string for each child beads (5 beads for each child) SAY The people in our Bible story tonight did NOT put God first. They were worshipping the wrong things. Instead of giving glory to God, they were giving glory to themselves! They forgot to be thankful to God for all that He has done for them. SAY, Right now, we are going to make a bracelet, that will help us remember to worship God only and thank Him for everything He has given us. HAND each child a piece of string. SAY, We are each going to make a Worship Bracelet; it is to help us remember all the reasons why we worship and praise God. Every time you look at your bracelet, you can remember to praise God by saying thank you for ALL that he does for you! SAY, Everyone can pick out 5 beads to put on your bracelet. As you are putting the beads on your bracelet, I want you to think of 5 different things that you are thankful for OR ways you can worship God. When you are done putting on the beads, I will help you tie the bracelets on your wrist and we will discuss the things you are thankful for OR the ways that you can worship God. Examples Thankful for: Mom, dad, teacher, church, HALO, friends, a home, food to eat, etc. Example Ways to worship God: Pray, sing to Him, read the Bible, talk to Him, write Him a note, draw Him a picture etc. GO around the class and talk about some of the things they chose to be thankful for, or some of the ways they can choose to worship God. SAY, When you go home tonight, show someone in your family the special bracelet you made tonight. Tell them how it is to remind you to be thankful to God and to praise Him first before ALL other things! Activity #1: Build It! Supplies Paper Cups Card Stock Squares Say, Let s try to build a tower using these paper cups and cards. We will try a couple different ways to see how high we can get it. Directions: Have children take turns adding cups and card squares to build a tower. Try making a few different towers. NOW SAY, Many years after God created the world, people started to forget that it was God that created them. They forgot they were made to worship Him and Him only! They started to worship the wrong things! They even tried to build a tower up to heaven for other made up Gods. God did not like this and punished them by making everyone talk differently so they could not understand each other. We aren t going to build a tower to heaven, but we are going to try and build some fun towers out of these cups and paper. Let s work together to create some fun towers to help us remember this story.

Wrap Up: Memory Verse Last Week s Verse: Psalm 103:12 He has removed our sins as far from us, as the east is from the west. This Week s Verse: Proverbs 19:21 You can make many plans, but the Lord s purpose will prevail. Supplies: Bag of Star Stickers Directions: 1. Children should have their HALO Book Marks from last week. 2. Have the children recite last week s memory verse and hand out Star Stickers to those that have it memorized. 3. Read this week s Memory Verse in your Bible and ask the children to look it up in their Bibles and read along. 4. Encourage the children to mark each week s verse in their Bible with their new Book Mark to make it quick and easy to reference. Optional: Highlighters and pens are provided so they may highlight or underline each week s verse.
