our mission MECHANECHES TRAINING PROGRAM: Much has been said about students who fall through the cracks : students whose emotional issues, anxiety, or home dysfunction remain unaddressed throughout their years in school. Regretfully, too many of our children are suffering and our schools desperately need a trained eye to spot these students. Furthermore, the devotion of a Rebbe or teacher is oftentimes insufficient to properly address these issues: mechanchim must be equipped with professional knowledge and skills in the areas of mental health and emotional development. The Torah Umesorah Mashgiach Training Program was developed to provide our schools with professionally trained personnel to help address the needs of students experiencing academic, behavioral or social difficulties. The Mashgiach training includes twenty five intense classes with mental health professionals, mechanchim and Roshei Yeshiva, to equip these educators with vital tools to recognize and address students needs. There is a strong emphasis on facilitating communication between the principal, teachers and parents to best position the student for success. With Torah Umesorah s training and placement of trained Mashgichim in tens of schools, we will be offering support to children who display early signs of challenges that can be addressed before they become larger issues. With the great success of the inaugural year of the Mashgiach Program, many were asking for a parallel program for girls schools. The Mechaneches Training Program was launched to address this need. The Mechaneches Course mirrors the Mashgiach program both in content and instructors. To date, the Mechanchos have just completed Year Two s supervision. the curriculum The training program, under the direction of Rabbi Dovid Morgenstern, is a two year program. In Year One, participants gain an understanding of: human development, common childhood psychopathology, academic, social and emotional issues, as they relate to a student in a school setting. They also learn to whom to refer individuals for specialized care when appropriate; to facilitate communication between the child, teacher, school administration and parents; to serve as resource to all school staff members in regard to basic mental health issues. In Year Two, the Mashgichim participate in a supervised practicum. The supervision consists of regular consultation and monitoring with an assigned mental health professional that serves as supervisor to help the Mashgiach better understand and serve student needs. The curriculum covers: Foundations of Counseling The Helping Relationship Human Development Trauma, Crisis, and Relief Mental Health Issues Professional & Ethical Practice Psychopharmacology Resiliency & Grit Bereavement Technology Psychopathology Consultation and Supervision Learning Differences Certain topics such as Kedushas Am Yisrael, The Role of the Mashgiach in Our Schools are delivered by Rabbonim and Veteran Mechanchim.
