2 nd Wednesday in Lent - March 4, 2015 Opening Versicles! O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise.! Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O Lord, Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) 1. You call me out upon the waters, The great unknown where feet may fail. And there I find You in the mystery, In oceans deep, my faith will stand. Chorus: I will call upon Your Name And keep my eyes above the waves When oceans rise, My soul will rest in Your embrace For I am Yours and You are mine. 2. Your grace abounds in deepest waters, Your sovereign hand will be my guide. Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me, You've never failed and You won't start now. Bridge: Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, Let me walk upon the waters Wherever You would call me. Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander And my faith will be made stronger In the presence of my Saviour. Repeat Succoth: The Feast of Tabernacles March 4, 2015 0 Ending: I will call upon Your Name, Keep my eyes above the waves. My soul will rest in Your embrace I am Yours and You are mine. Reading Nehemiah 8:13 18 13 On the second day the heads of fathers houses of all the people, with the priests and the Levites, came together to Ezra the scribe in order to study the words of the Law. 14 And they found it written in the Law that the LORD had commanded by Moses that the people of Israel should dwell in booths during the feast of the seventh month, 15 and tha 1

they should proclaim it and publish it in all their towns and in Jerusalem, Go out to the hills and bring branches of olive, wild olive, myrtle, palm, and other leafy trees to make booths, as it is written. 16 So the people went out and brought them and made booths for themselves, each on his roof, and in their courts and in the courts of the house of God, and in the square at the Water Gate and in the square at the Gate of Ephraim. 17 And all the assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made booths and lived in the booths, for from the days of Jeshua the son of Nun to that day the people of Israel had not done so. And there was very great rejoicing. 18 And day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read from the Book of the Law of God. They kept the feast seven days, and on the eighth day there was a solemn assembly, according to the rule. Reading Numbers 29:12 16 12 On the fifteenth day of the seventh month you shall have a holy convocation. You shall not do any ordinary work, and you shall keep a feast to the LORD seven days. 13 And you shall offer a burnt offering, a food offering, with a pleasing aroma to the LORD, thirteen bulls from the herd, two rams, fourteen male lambs a year old; they shall be without blemish; 14 and their grain offering of fine flour mixed with oil, three tenths of an ephah for each of the thirteen bulls, two tenths for each of the two rams, 15 and a tenth for each of the fourteen lambs; 16 also one male goat for a sin offering, besides the regular burnt offering, its grain offering and its drink offering. Flowing River Pour Your Holy Spirit upon me. Let Your presence fill me up. Make my life a flowing river Of Your everlasting love Chorus: Like a living stream flowing from Your mighty ocean, Purify in me my desire and my devotion. Make my life a flowing river of Your everlasting love. 2 The Feast of Tabernacles Reading John 7:1 24, 37 39 1 After this Jesus went about in Galilee. He would not go about in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him. 2 Now the Jews Feast of Booths was at hand. 3 So his brothers said to him, Leave here and go to Judea, that your disciples also may see the works you are doing. 4 For no one works in secret if he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world. 5 For not even his brothers believed in him. 6 Jesus said to them, My time has not yet come, but your time is always here. 7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil. 8 You go up to the feast. I am not going up to this feast, for my time has not yet fully come. 9 After saying this, he remained in Galilee. 10 But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly but in private. 11 The Jews were looking for him at the feast, and saying, Where is he? 12 And there was much muttering about him among the people. While some said, He is a good man, others said, No, he is leading the people astray. 13 Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke openly of him. 14 About the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and began teaching. 15 The Jews therefore marveled, saying, How is it that this man has learning, when he has never studied? 16 So Jesus answered them, My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me. 17 If anyone s will is to do God s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority. 18 The one who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory, but the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and in him there is no falsehood. 19 Has not Moses given you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why do you seek to kill me? 20 The crowd answered, You have a demon! Who is seeking to kill you? 21 Jesus answered them, I did one deed, and you all marvel at it. 22 Moses gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath. 23 If on the Sabbath a man receives circumcision, so that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because on the Sabbath I made a man s whole body well? 24 Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment. 37 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever 3

believes in me, as the Scripture has said, Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. 39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. Jesus at the Feast Nothing but the Blood of Jesus 1. What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus; What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Chorus: Oh! Precious is the flow That makes me white as snow; No other fount I know, Nothing but the blood of Jesus. 2. For my pardon this I see, Nothing but the blood of Jesus; For my cleansing this my plea, Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Kyrie! O Lord,! O Christ,! O Lord, Lord's Prayer Our Father who art in heaven. hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. 4 Apostles' Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Versicles # Hear my prayer, O Lord; let my cry come to You. # In the day of my trouble I call upon You; for You answer me. # Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. # Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. # Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. # Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, 5

and uphold me with a willing spirit. # Because Your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise You. # For You have been my help, and in the shadow of Your wings I will sing for joy. # Teach me Your way, O Lord, that I may walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear Your name. # I give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify Your name forever. # May all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You. May those who love Your salvation say evermore, "God is great!" # Save Your people and bless Your heritage! Be their shepherd and carry them forever. # Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace. Like a rose trampled on the ground You took the fall and thought of me Above all Benedicamus # Let us bless the Lord. Blessing # The Lord bless us, defend us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life. Amen. Acknowledgments Responsive Prayer 2 from Lutheran Service Book.
