Mathilde M. Ohse January 6, 1922 October 16, 2013 For we know that if our earthly house, this tabernacle, were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 Corinthians 5:1 Funeral Service Saturday, October 19, 2013 11:00 AM PRELUDE EBENEZER LUTHERAN CHURCH The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod 9100 Highway YY - Port Hudson Leslie, Missouri 63056 Rev. Zastrow, Pastor Laura Nichols, Organist RINGING OF THE BELL OPENING HYMN What a Friend We have in Jesus Tune: Converse (Public Domain) What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry Everything to God in prayer! Oh, what peace we often forfeit; Oh, what needless pain we bear All because we do not carry Everything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble any where? We should never be discouraged Take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful Who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness Take it to the Lord in prayer. Are we weak and heavy laden, Cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior, still our refuge Take it to the Lord in prayer. Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer. In his arms he ll take and shield you; You will find a solace there. Pastor (P): In the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit. Congregation (C): Amen P: O Lord, open Thou my lips. C: And My mouth shall show forth Thy Praise. P: We brought nothing into this world and it s certain that we shall carry nothing out. C: The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away: Blessed be the name of the Lord. P: O death, where is thy sting! O grave, where is thy victory. C: Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! C: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. HYMN For Me to Live Is Jesus Tune: Christus, Der Ist Mein Leben (Public Domain) For me to live is Jesus, To die is gain for me; So when my Savior pleases, I meet death willingly. For Christ, my Lord, my brother, I leave this world so dim And gladly seek another, Where I shall be with him. In my last hour, oh, grant me A slumber soft and still, No doubts to vex or haunt me, Safe anchored in your will. 3

This anchor of your making Forever holding me, I will, in heaven awaking, Sing heaven s melody. He is near us, faith believes, nor questions how; Though the cloud from sight received Him when the forty days were o er Shall our hearts forget His promise, "I am with you evermore"? HOLY GOSPEL John 6:27-40 (I will raise him up at the last day) (after the reading) P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to You, O Christ. SERMON HYMN Nearer, My God, to Thee Tune: Bethany (Public Domain) Nearer, my God to thee, 5

Even though it be a cross That raiseth me; Still all my song shall be: Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer, my God, to thee, Nearer, my Lord, to thee, Who to they cross didst come, Dying for me! Strengthen my willing feet, Hold me in service sweet Nearer, O Christ, to thee, Nearer, O Comforter, Who with my loving Lord Dwellest with me! Grant me thy fellowship! Help me each day to deep Nearer, My Guide, to thee, But to be nearer still, Bring me, O God, Not by the visioned steeps Angels have trod. Here where thy cross I see, Jesus, I wait for thee, Then evermore to be SERMON An Indestructible Tabernacle 2 Corinthians 5:1 6

P: God has made us his people through our Baptism into Christ. Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith with all the saints. I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, Born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, The Holy Christian Church, The Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, The resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen PRAYER Pastor: People: Pastor: O God, the Father of compassion, shower Your mercies on this family, and all who mourn the death of our departed sister, Mathilde. May these mercies be new each day to sooth the pain of each day as we await the heavenly reunion with Jesus Christ and this loved one. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. O God the Son, dearest Jesus, our Good Shepherd, make Your rod and staff of comfort known to those who mourn. May Your goodness and love revealed in Your Word and Sacraments be known in their daily lives. Guide them in Your paths of righteousness as they await the heavenly reunion with Jesus Christ and this loved one. Lord, in 7

People: Pastor: People: Pastor: Your mercy, hear our prayer. O God the Holy Spirit, show us the mountain of hope---the mountain of the cross of Christ. Strengthen our faith with Your Word and Sacraments that we may join those who have overcome all tribulations and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Keep us faithful as we await the heavenly reunion with Jesus Christ and this loved one. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen. Lord, remember us in Your kingdom, and teach us to pray: LORD S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. 8

HYMN Abide With Me Tune: Eventide (Common Domain) Abide with me, fast falls the even tide. The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me. I need thy presence every passing hour; What but thy grace can foil the tempter s power? Who like thy-self my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, oh, abide with me. Swift to its close ebbs out life s little day; Earth s joys grow dim, its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see; O thou who changest not, abide with me. I fear no foe with thee at hand to bless; Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness Where is death s sting? Where, grave, they victory? I triumph still if thou abide with me. Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes, Shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies; Heaven s morning breaks, and earth s vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me. THE BENEDICTION P: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance on you and give you peace. C: Amen. 9

The Ohse would like to invite relatives and dear friends for fellowship and dinner immediately after committal service at our church cemetery. 10

She is survived by three daughters Betty Altemeyer and husband Kenneth; Barbara Gilbert and husband Jerald ; Janet Redhage and husband Bernard, and by son Kenneth Ohse and his wife Rose all of New Haven.
