TUESDAY QUILTERS Give these squares to Dawn; she will put them into a beautiful design. This quilt needs a band aid. Why is Sarah on the floor? What a beautiful quilt this turned out to be! Wow! Where are the pliers? This duck has only one eye. Betty, can you thread this needle for me? Who brought these delicious cookies? Where are my scissors? These are just a few of the comments you can hear on any Tuesday morning when the quilters meet to make quilts. You, too, can join the group. We welcome all people to join us. Curious? Just stop by Room 110 and see us at work. We love what we do and are proud of the many quilts we have given to Bridging, well over 300 since we started the handiwork. Bridging is an organization that gives household items to the homeless who are setting up a household for the first time. Below is a letter we received after delivering 20 quilts: "Thank you for your amazing quilts! We are greatly in need of blankets right now, so your quilts are like manna from heaven. It's so much fun to see all of the beautiful colors and patterns. Thanks for your continued gifts to Bridging. We are so grateful for you!" The quilters meet on the first, third, and fifth Tuesdays, from 9:00 to noon. We meet in room 110. XYZ HAS RETURNED! XYZ stands for Extra Years of Zest and is open to retired, semi-retired or anyone who is interested in joining us in exploring different venues in the area. Our events will be announced in the bulletin and on the bulletin board by the elevator. Upcoming activities/events: August 26: potluck dinner and games at Rich and Peggy Diehl s home September possible Minnetonka boat ride (arrangements being explored). October 22: New Bell Museum and Planetarium If you have suggestions for places you might enjoy or would like to assist us in planning, contact Lee and Aneita Hitzeman. 3

STEWARDSHIP God s character is giving. He Who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things? (Romans 8:32). God never stops giving to us. First God loved, then He gave, and He keeps on giving. The God Who Lives in us is loving and giving by nature. The very center of the gospel is giving by God. For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). Salvation, eternal life, and, in fact, everything that we have or ever will have are gifts from God. Filled with God s love and receivers of His redemptive grace, we become givers ourselves. True Christians are giving people. Giving is a picture of the character of God in the lives of the faithful and fruitful stewards. As stewards, we can benefit from these Biblical principles of giving: First give yourself to the Lord (2 Corinthians 8:5). The apostle Paul said the people in the Macedonian Church gave more than they were capable because...they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God s will. With a committed heart, giving is made easy. Acceptable sacrifice to God (Philippians 4:18) Paul identifies the gift to Him from the Philippian church as a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. Sacrificial giving represents the depth of our love to the Lord. Service to the saints (2 Corinthians 9:1). Paul stated that the gift from the Corinthian people to the Jerusalem church was...service to the saints. Your giving is a service of love to Christians who are in need. God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. God loves cheerful givers, and cheerful givers love God. Love.with action and in truth (1 John 3:17-18). John said, If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity in him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth. When you truly love others, you will give to meet their needs. As God s children and recipients of His love, we are to Be imitators of God (Ephesians 5:1) 5

forever, why you can t live without it Consider joining the Friday Morning Men s Bible Study We meet every Friday at 6:00 AM for an hour. Where: R.J. Riches 2145 County Rd H, Mounds View, MN (their breakfast menu is extensive and are noted for their generous portions) We have prayer, study, discussion and fellowship and breakfast, all in one hour. Friday August 10: we will be starting a new 15-week series titled forever, why you can t live without it Is this all you're living for? For years, pastor Paul Tripp understood we were 'hardwired for forever.' But he didn't understand that it was more than a valuable insight. It is a practical tool to help us face the disappointment of everyday life. Now he knows, and he can help you discover how to survive and thrive in the middle of your story, with the final chapter of heaven in view. Instead of embracing the world's motto---'you only live once'---follow Tripp as he unpacks the biblical truth of the world as a broken place, longing for a second chance. And come alive as you discover the meaning and redemption all this brokenness can bring to your life today. With practical insights on how eternity impacts your relationships, your job, your kids, and your deepest struggles, you'll be encouraged to relax into the eternal story God is writing for you. You really are hardwired for eternity, and this book reveals how you can begin to view all that happens in your life as preparation for Forever. The group is limited to 12, cost of book $8.00. Oestreich Dear Parents: JOYFUL RINGERS As you begin your planning for the fall school schedule, I hope you will take time to pencil in your child for the Joyful Ringers! Our group has grown the past few years and we are making some beautiful music together. We do have additional open positions available if your child would like to participate. There is a Messiah Music Camp scheduled for Saturday, September 8 th, at the church from 9:00 12:30PM for games, fun and pizza. The sign-up sheet is by the elevator. If your child wants to join the group it is important for them to attend this Music Camp so everyone can work on the same skill techniques together. The choir is open to students in grades 4-12 th. The schedule is published at the start of the school year with dates the Joyful Ringers are scheduled to play. It is very important to have everyone present for those performances. It is also important for everyone to participate in the weekly rehearsals so no part is missing. A phone call or an email telling me someone will be absent is very helpful! If enough ringers are out we would need to cancel the rehearsal/ performance for that day. I look forward to an exciting year!! Kay A. Knutson Director of Parish Music 11
