The first is that the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. The second is that we are not called to drink the wine but to work in the vineyard. (I can't remember the third point - imagine that!?) The main thing point is pretty self-explanatory. However, when I was thinking about working in the vineyard the first thing that came to mind was what if I don't want to work in the vineyard but I would like to drink the wine and enjoy the fruit of someone else's work? After all, it's hard work - it's hot and dusty in the vineyard and the owner doesn't pay very well. And what if I don't have enough help? I have to do almost everything myself? And then I don't get to drink the wine! But there won't be any wine unless someone is willing to work the vineyard. Isn't life like that? If we want to enjoy the results of life, we have to put some effort into it and all the issues it brings. It may not be fun and the pay may not be what we would like but unless we do the work we shouldn't expect to enjoy the results. Work hard, life is short! Then, enjoy! De Colores Jim Schuchardt National and International Wall Agape During the walk week-end, participants are shown letters from Walk to Emmaus communities from around the country and sometimes around the world. Maybe you remember viewing them posted during your pilgrim walk. These letters, which are often highly decorated, are signed by Fourth-Day or Next Step Groups. Board members and community members express their prayer and support for the particular weekend. Reading these letters enables pilgrims to realize that the body of Christ extends through agape love across the earth. General agape letters are posted in a community area of the facility so that they can be easily viewed during the week-end. Remember doing projects on your pilgrim walk? Well we have a project for your Reunion Group. We would like to post these kinds of wall agape from our local Reunion Groups at the 2017 walks. Start talking about it now. It can be something you design on your computer or 2

Contact us at cbemmaus@gmail.com for more information or to tell us you want in on this exciting project for next year's walks. CLERGY NOTES I've been thinking lately about highs and lows. Most of us who have been on Walk to Emmaus would definitely refer to that experience as a spiritual "high." It certainly was for me. I would add that the subsequent Walks I've experienced as a team member have also been "highs," maybe even more so than my own pilgrim Walk. One of the issues we deal with on the three day Walk itself is going home - how you live your Fourth Day. But we make a mistake if we communicate that somehow life, our spiritual life in particular, is going to be a continuous "high" after we go home from Emmaus. Life just isn't like that. The spiritual life isn't like that. The difference in our lives once we've begun walking with Jesus isn't that we're always joyful or never sad or discouraged or just...blah. (Sometimes it's the "blah" times that are the most challenging for me.) Even though there is often a great emotional high that accompanies our experience on a Walk weekend or any great spiritual event, it is not that emotion on which we rely. It is much deeper than that. We are sustained by a deep work of grace in our lives that we experience by faith. Faith is what sustains us through all the highs and lows of our lives. Hebrews 11:1 (The Message) says, "The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It's our handle on what we can't see (and I would add, what we can't feel)." It's my prayer for myself as well as for you that we will walk by faith, not by sight or by feeling, as we seek to live in God's grace each day of this adventure of walking with Jesus. De Colores! Please ask them to add cbemmaus@gmail.com to their address book so the newsletter will go directly to their inbox. earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart because I have overcome the world. John 16:33 As we head into these last few weeks before the weekend, I can only say thank you. It is obvious that the Lord has been acting on many of your prayers and has built us a small but mighty team, a long list of guests, and the funds that we need to put on the weekend. There are still ways for you to help though. Prayer is first and foremost. Please go online and sign up for our prayer vigil at: http://www.3dayol.org/vigil/getvigil.phtml?pvid=12396&commid=1426 Prayer is so important for the healing of our guests. It is more than just putting your name in a space. As each of you go to the Lord for our guests and team, our Father will smell the sweet aroma of His children lifting up others for His blessings for the full time the guests are present at the weekend. What a mighty way to show our love. Next He promises in our weakness, He was strong. Our team is small and we have virtually no one to work outside the conference room. We are depending on Day Angels to help us each step of the way. Please call Andrea Gibbud to get on the list to help. It can be for few hours or as much as you can spare. Her number is 361-318-8482. We also need agape for 45 guests. Please contact me to get details- 361-645-9706. Finally, we need you to come to our Walking in Love Ceremony on Saturday night. It is much like the candlelight ceremony on many of the spiritual weekends. Because many of our guests are not a member of a church, we get only a small number of people who come light the circle of candles to show our guests that even strangers love them with the love of Christ. Please come to the PAX Christi retreat center at 4601 Calallen Drive at 8 pm for a short worship service before welcoming our guests. The community will gather in the Church at the front of the property. Please come! Thank you for standing with us as we head into this weekend of serving our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Let us each be the light that He seeks from us in this dark world we live in. Your sister in Christ, Janette Watson 4
