The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ June 3, 2018
Let Us Give Thanks! As I write this column, I can only be filled with gratitude for an amazing weekend of graces that have been given us. Last weekend, many attended the ordination of Deacon Brendan Rowley at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul. Many of his family, friends and those who have walked with him through these last years of formation were in attendance. Bishop Evans ordained him with the laying on of hands, after he lay prostrate on the Cathedral floor as a sign of total surrender to Christ and His Church for service. We were blessed last Sunday morning. Deacon Rowley exercised his ministry to the altar and to the word at the nine and eleven morning masses. At the nine am Mass, he renewed his parents (Jim and Deb) 40 th wedding anniversary vows. As you can imagine, this was an especially poignant moment for all present. We saw the vocation of marriage and family being supported by the Sacrament of Holy Orders, which was most fitting for the weekend. Special thanks to the Knights of Columbus for generously hosting a breakfast and reception after each of the masses. Also, thanks to the musicians and liturgical ministers who assisted. We hosted seminarians for the weekend. This reminds us to pray for priestly vocations and to support the quality men who have began their journey to the altar of Christ. Having been involved in vocation ministry for ten years (and Msgr. Halloran for 25!), I must say this weekend was extra special. I was Deacon Rowley s chaplain at Bishop Hendricken High School and now to serve as his Pastor, is a unique vantage point and grace. As you do, I look forward to his priestly ordination next spring and his First Mass. Pray for him and for his new ordained ministry. Pray for more vocations to priesthood and religious life! Fr. Taillon

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ ~ June 3, 2018 The cup of salvation I will take up, and I will call upon the name of the LORD. Precious Blood On this solemnity we focus our attention on the Body and Blood of Christ. We listen to the story of the renewal of the old covenant, which Moses sealed by splashing the blood of animals on the altar of sacrifice, as well as on the people. Jesus, whose blood is the blood of the new covenant, shed that precious blood on the cross, saving us from sin and promising us everlasting life. Blood is the life source that courses through our bodies. The precious blood of Christ is the life source for our spirits. Today may we, like the psalmist, offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the Lord, whose Body and Blood strengthen us to bring the Good News to everyone we meet.
