Notes, etc. from the officers * COMMANDANT * * SR. VICE COMMANDANT * To all members: May/June has been a very busy months, thanks to all who participated in the parades. We finally had our golf outing and we had the most golfers since we started this fundraiser 4 years ago, we had 104 golfers this year and took in over $4,000.00 for our detachment. Fundraising is a big part of our existence and without it we would be out of funds and would have to close the doors, so I want to thank all members who came and helped at this outing and believe me it was a lot of work. See everyone at the meeting. Semper Fi Al None submitted * JUDGE ADVOCATE * It was my desire to attend the conference at Fairlawn June 10 th but surgery prevented me from doing so. The only item that I can say unofficially is that John Harkness was re-elected to a second term as Commandant. Also, on another note Turn out for both parades was dismal at best. Color Guard, Wally Ronsky with The League float (no riders) and John Dague with his weapons vehicle. * JR. VICE COMMANDANT * Semper Fi Roger Fowler, Judge Advocate None submitted * SERGEANT AT-ARMS * None submitted
* CHAPLAIN OFFICE * We rarely evaluate our values or question our perceptions until we have a crisis. Once we re in deep pain, we begin to examine what we re basing our lives upon. Whether it s materialism, feeling good, or looking good, we instinctively realize there has to be more. That s why it s so critical that we ask ourselves before we re mired in pain what s going to last? Our culture encourages us to do just the opposite. Our society values the here and now. Tomorrow doesn t matter. Next year doesn t matter. A thousand years from today doesn t matter. Eternity and Heaven don t matter. Live for today. But the Bible says something different in 1 John 2:17: The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever (NIV). Consider what happens when we re tempted. Temptation isn t just a battle between good and bad or what s best and what s not best. Temptation is always a battle between now or later. Will I do what God says and enjoy the benefits later, or will I do what I want and enjoy the benefits now? The Bible teaches us to fix our attention, not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts forever (2 Corinthians 4:18 GNT). PRAYER LIST: The Gulling family, Phil Bishop, wife Ruth, Ed Robnett, Howard Osborne, Len Sobie, Gary Sloan, John Kiley, Steve Eggleston, wife Connie, Redman, Lyle Roberts, Ed Zackery, Rick Pethtel, Jack Coyne, Dick Whelan, Liz Schmidt, Brian Morningstar (had some more surgery), John Dague (had some stints installed). Compliments of the MARINE CORPS LEAGUE Medina County Detachment #569, Inc. www.mclmedina.org Hello, Remember Me? Some people call me Old Glory, others call me the Star Spangled Banner, but whatever they call me, I am your Flag, the Flag of the United States of America Something has been bothering me, so I thought I might talk it over with you because it is about you and me. I remember some time ago people lined up on both sides of the street to watch the parade and naturally, I was leading every parade, proudly waving in the breeze. When your daddy saw me coming, he immediately removed his hat and placed it against his left shoulder so that the hand was directly over his heart remember? And you, I remember you. Standing there straight as a soldier. You didn t have a hat, but you were giving the right salute. Remember little sister? Not to be outdone, she was saluting the same as you with her right hand over her heart remember? What happened? I m still the same old flag. A lot more blood has been shed since those parades of long ago. When I come down your street you just stand there with your hands in your pockets and I may get a small glance and then you look away. Then I see the children running around and shouting they don t seem to know who I am I saw one take his hat off then look around, he didn t see anybody else with theirs off so he quickly put his back on. Is it a sin to be patriotic anymore? Have you forgotten what I stand for and where I ve been?... Anzio, Guadalcanal, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq. Take a look at the Memorial Honor rolls sometimes, of those who never came back, who died to keep this Republic free One Nation Under God when you salute me, you are actually saluting them. Well, it won t be long until I ll be coming down your street again. So, when you see me, stand straight, place your right hand over your heart and I ll salute you, by waving back and I ll know that YOU REMEMBERED!
