Make me humble, patient, pure and wholly obedient to Thy will. Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in Thee and for Thee. Protect me in the midst of danger; comfort me in my afflictions; give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, Thy blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Within Thy Heart I place my every care. In every need let me come to Thee with humble trust saying: Heart of Jesus help me. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in Thee! 02 INSTITUTE OF CHRIST THE KING SOVEREIGN PRIEST

ANNOUNCEMENTS & UPCOMING EVENTS WHAT IS AN EXTERNAL SOLEMNITY? The external solemnity of a feast means that, when the feast day occurs during the week, then the Mass of the feast may be celebrated on a Sunday in order that a greater number of the faithful may be able to participate at the Mass of this feast and may thus benefit spiritually from the graces associated with the feast. In certain countries the feast of Corpus Christi, which occurs the Thursday after the Octave of Pentecost (this year: June 11), is a public holiday. But since this is not the case in our own country, the Mass of Corpus Christi and the Eucharistic procession may be celebrated on the following Sunday (this year: June 14) for the greater spiritual edification of the faithful. It is still very much recommended that when possible the faithful participate at Holy Mass and devotions on the day of the actual feast. The Mass of the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (this year: June 19) will also be celebrated as an External Solemnity on Sunday, June 21. GREAT MASTERS OF SPIRITUALITY SERIES On Tuesday, June 23, there will be a spirituality class open to all adults & young people in the priory lower level reception room at 7:30pm. We shall read and comment the works and writings of St. Peter the Apostle. Tuesday, June 23, 7:30 pm: St. Peter, a Saint for Everyone LATIN FOR TOMORROW: CLASSICAL LATIN FOR EVERYONE A free six-week beginner s summer course in Classical Latin will be taught at the Shrine by Mr. Justin Shelby, a Classics student at the University of Chicago. Classes will be held each week on Monday and Thursday starting Monday, July 13. Please contact the priory for registration and details: shrine@institute-christ-king.org or 773-363-7409. JUNE: MONTH OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS I will bless every home in which an image of My Heart shall be exposed and honored. Words of Our Lord to St. Margaret Mary Dedicated to the Sacred Heart, the month of June is the perfect time to consecrate yourself & family and dedicate your home to Our Lord s holy Heart through the beautiful devotion of the Home Enthronement. Booklets containing information and prayers for the Home Enthronement are currently available in the vestibule of the church. Please feel free to contact the priory of you have any questions. YEAR OF THE PRIEST Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, will open a special year devoted to prayer for priests with Solemn Vespers at St. Peter s Basilica on June 19 -- the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and World Day for the sanctification of priests. He will close the Year of the Priest with celebrations during a World Meeting of Priests in St. Peter's Square June 19, 2010. His Holiness holds up the priestly example of Saint John Vianney, patron saint of parish priests, during this year, which also marks "the 150th anniversary of the death of the saintly 'Cure of Ars', Jean Marie Vianney, a true example of a pastor at the service of Christ's flock". Devotions in honor of the opening of this year will be held during Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament which will follow Solemn High Mass on Friday, June 19, at 7:00pm. The Mass includes the Lauda Sion Sequence by St. Thomas Aquinas, and a procession followed by the greatest Eucharistic hymns of the Church, also written by St. Thomas especially for this Feast. These include Sacris Solemnis, Ave Verum, Adoro Te, and Verbum Supernum. Rose petals are strewn in the path of the Eucharistic procession. The historical origin of the feast involves two incidents. The first is the Miracle of Bolsena, which happened in A.D. 1263. Peter of Prague, a German priest, during a pilgrimage to Rome, stopped at the Church of St. Christina there to offer Mass. While he was a holy and devout man, he harbored doubts about the Real Presence -- doubts which were completely resolved when the Host he consecrated during that Mass began to bleed. He rushed to meet Pope Urban IV in Orvieto, bringing the Host with him. The miracle was declared, and the Host is still on display at the Cathedral of Orvieto today. The second source of inspiration was an Augustinian nun, a Belgian named St. Juliana of Mont Cornillon (A.D. 1193-1258). She had a vision of the moon that was full and beautiful, but marked by a black spot that signified that there was no joyous celebration of the Eucharist in the entire Church calendar. In response to both of the above, Pope Urban IV eventually published a Bull, Transiturus, in A.D. 1264, which made this Feast a part of the calendar. 05 INSTITUTE OF CHRIST THE KING SOVEREIGN PRIEST

HOLY INFANT KING NOVENA The Shrine of Christ the King was built in 1923 by renowned architect Henry Schlacks as St. Clara Church. Having barely escaped the wrecking ball, this magnificent historic landmark has been given to the care of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest. With only provisional furnishings, the Shrine is already a haven for the transcendent beauty of the Extraordinary Form of the Latin Rite, dear to our beloved Pope Benedict XVI. The more you honor Me, the more I will bless you. Here, the Divine Infant King, real Symbol for Truth Lived in Charity, will be the center of liturgical worship and devotion. A seventeenth century statue of the Divine Infant King, donated by a generous benefactor, has been solemnly crowned and enthroned above the High altar of the Shrine by His Eminence Francis Cardinal George in December 2007. In honor of the Divine Infant King a Votive High Mass of the Nativity is celebrated at the Shrine at 7:00 pm on the 25th day of every month. In preparation for this monthly commemoration of the Infant King, a Novena prayer in His honor is recited after daily Mass from the 17th through the 25th of every month. Novena Prayer VOTIVE MASS OF THE NATIVITY IN HONOR OF THE DIVINE INFANT KING Followed by Benediction of the most Blessed Sacrament THURSDAY, JUNE 25 AT 7:00 PM Choral music provided by The Gelasian Singers under the direction of Terry Sullivan Missa Ave Domine Iesu Christe, Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643) Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus/Benedictus, Agnus Dei Offertory Motet: Sicut Cervus Desiderat, Cipriano di Rore (1515 1565) Communion Motet: Sepulto Domino, Jacob Handl (1550-1591) O Divine Infant Jesus, I have recourse to Thee. Please, through Thy Blessed Mother, assist me in this necessity (mention intention here), because I firmly believe that Thy Divinity can help me. I hope with confidence to obtain thy holy grace. I love Thee with all my heart and with all the strength of my soul. I repent sincerely of my sins and I beg Thee, O Good Jesus, to grant me the strength to triumph over them. I resolve never more to offend Thee and I come to offer myself to Thee with the intention of enduring everything rather than to displease Thee. Henceforth, I desire to serve Thee with fidelity and, for the love of Thee, O Divine Infant, I will love my neighbor as myself. All powerful Infant, O Jesus, I implore Thee again, assist me in this need. Grant me the grace of possessing Thee eternally with Mary and Joseph and of adoring Thee with the angels in the heavenly court. Amen. INSTITUTE OF CHRIST THE KING SOVEREIGN PRIEST 06
