July 8, 2018 Fellowship Hall Service 9:30 and 11:00 a.m.
Order of Worship * Welcome and greetings Joe Novenson, senior teaching pastor * Call to worship based on Isaiah 40 and 1 Samuel 2 Leader: The sovereign Lord sits enthroned above the circle of the earth. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy. Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? All: He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. Leader: The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. All: He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God. * Hymn of praise Rejoice in All Your Works (words and music on opposite page) * Prayer of adoration Call to confession based on Romans 3 and Daniel 9 No one will be declared righteous in God s sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. Now, our God, hear our prayers. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! Silent prayers of confession please turn page

Assurance of God s pardoning grace based on 1 Peter 2 Christ himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds we have been healed. For once we were like sheep going astray, but now we have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls. * Hymn of assurance I Will Glory in My Redeemer I will glory in my Redeemer, whose priceless blood has ransomed me. Mine was the sin that drove the bitter nails, and hung him on that judgment tree. I will glory in my Redeemer, who crushed the power of sin and death. My only Savior before the holy Judge: the Lamb who is my righteousness; the Lamb who is my righteousness. I will glory in my Redeemer, my life he bought, my love he owns. I have no longings for another, I m satisfied in him alone. I will glory in my Redeemer; his faithfulness my standing place. Though foes are mighty and rush upon me, my feet are firm, held by his grace; my feet are firm, held by his grace. I will glory in my Redeemer, who carries me on eagles wings. He crowns my life with loving kindness; his triumph song I ll ever sing. I will glory in my Redeemer, who waits for me at gates of gold, and when he calls me it will be paradise, his face forever to behold; his face forever to behold. text and music by Steve and Vikki Cook 2001 Sovereign Grace Worship ARR, ICS, UBP, CCLI Lic.#152036 Worship in the giving of God s tithe and our offerings Offertory hymn Jesus, Thou Joy of Loving Hearts Jesus, thou joy of loving hearts, thou fount of life, thou light of men; from the best bliss that earth imparts we turn unfilled to thee again. Thy truth unchanged hath ever stood; thou savest those that on thee call; to them that seek thee thou art good, to them that find thee all in all. Our restless spirits yearn for thee where er our changeful lot is cast; glad when thy gracious smile we see, blessed when our faith can hold thee fast. O Jesus ever with us stay, make all our moments calm and bright; chase the dark night of sin away, shed o er the world thy holy light. text by Bernard of Clairvaux, ca. 1150

Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above; praise the mount! I m fixed upon it, mount of God s unchanging love. Here I raise my Ebenezer; hither by thy help I m come; and I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wand ring from the fold of God: he, to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood. O to grace how great a debtor daily I m constrained to be; let that grace now, like a fetter, bind my wand ring heart to thee. Mark 10:17-31 17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. Good teacher, he asked, what must I do to inherit eternal life? 18 Why do you call me good? Jesus answered. No one is good except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother. 20 Teacher, he declared, all these I have kept since I was a boy. 21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. One thing you lack, he said. Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me. 22 At this the man s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. 23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! 24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. 26 The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, Who then can be saved? 27 Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God. 28 Peter said to him, We have left everything to follow you! 29 I tell you the truth, Jesus replied, no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.
