Order of Worship Prelude Welcome and greetings Reflection on Hyfrydol Praise the Lord! Ye Heavens Adore Him Rowland H. Prichard, arr. Don Phillips Derek Halvorson, President of Covenant College Introit I Know that My Redeemer Lives Glory, Hallelujah! Men s Ensemble I know that my Redeemer lives glory, hallelujah! What comfort this sweet sentence gives glory, hallelujah! Shout on, pray on, we re gaining ground glory, hallelujah! The dead s alive and the lost is found glory, hallelujah! He lives, all glory to his name! glory, hallelujah! He lives, my Jesus, still the same glory, hallelujah! Shout on, pray on, we re gaining ground glory, hallelujah! The dead s alive and the lost is found glory, hallelujah! text by Samuel Medley, 1775, refrain anon.; shout on * Call to worship based on Isaiah 40 and 1 Samuel 2 Leader: The sovereign Lord sits enthroned above the circle of the earth. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy. Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? All: He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. Leader: The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. All: He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.
* Hymn of praise 75 O Father, You Are Sovereign * Prayer of adoration * Affirmation of faith The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. Missionary report (9:30) Sacrament of baptism (11:00) Kaki and Jay Jenkins bringing Ford Probasco Jenkins Call to confession based on Romans 3 and Daniel 9 No one will be declared righteous in God s sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. Now, our God, hear our prayers. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! Silent prayers of confession Choral meditation Merciful Father Men s Ensemble Merciful Father, O Lord hear us, hear our prayer, hear our prayer. Amen. arr. from Ludwig van Beethoven
Assurance of God s pardoning grace based on 1 Peter 2 Christ himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds we have been healed. For once we were like sheep going astray, but now we have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls. * Hymn of assurance How Deep the Father s Love for Us text and music by Stuart Townend 1995 Kingsway s Thankyou Music, ARR, UBP, CCLI Lic. #152036 Worship in the giving of God s tithe and our offerings Offertory Psalm 5 Men s Ensemble O Jehovah, hear my words; to my thoughts attentive be. Hear my cry, my King, my God, for I make my prayer to thee. With the morning light, O Lord, thou shalt hear my voice and cry; in the morn my prayer arrange and keep constant watch will I. Truly thou art not a God that in sin doth take delight; evil shall not dwell with thee, nor the proud stand in thy sight. Evildoers thou dost hate; liars thou wilt bring to naught. God abhors the man who loves deed of blood or lying thought.
But in thine abundant grace to thy house will I repair; looking to thy holy place, in thy fear I ll worship there. Since, O Lord, mine enemies for my soul do lie in wait, lead me in thy righteousness; make thy way before me straight. But let all that trust thy care ever glad and joyful be; let them joy who love thy name, for they guarded are by thee. And a blessing rich O Lord, to the righteous thou wilt yield; thou wilt compassion him about with thy favor as a shield. Mark 10:17-31 17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. Good teacher, he asked, what must I do to inherit eternal life? 18 Why do you call me good? Jesus answered. No one is good except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother. 20 Teacher, he declared, all these I have kept since I was a boy. 21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. One thing you lack, he said. Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me. 22 At this the man s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. 23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! 24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. 26 The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, Who then can be saved? 27 Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God. 28 Peter said to him, We have left everything to follow you! 29 I tell you the truth, Jesus replied, no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.
