Under the mantle of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we grow as a people of God following Jesus, celebrating the Eucharist, living apostolic service, continuing faith formation and Marian devotions. We strive to bring the joy of the gospel and imitate Jesus through compassion, mercy and love, especially for the poor and marginalized. We seek to be faithful stewards providing a heart and home for all.

Divine Mercy is one of the modern manifestations of the Lord Jesus that He really rose from the dead. In this Feast Day Jesus manifests to everyone that salvation of the sinners is always the desire and treasure of His Sacred Heart. Forgiveness of the peoples sins is what matters to Him. Pouring His Divine Mercy to those who believe in Him is what He wants to be known to all. Like St. Faustina let us be a channel of making this Divine Mercy devotion be known to all, to our family and friends and to whomever we encounter. Jesus, King Mercy I Trust in You. Amen. Divine Mercy Sunday This Sunday April 23rd, experience Jesus Mercy starting from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm with Confession and at 3:00 pm with the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Mercy Meditations with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Our parish will join other parishes in honoring the infinite merciful love of the Lord Jesus, as He Himself has requested through Saint Faustina Kowalska. Our Lord said to Saint Faustina: The very depths of My Mercy will be opened on this day. I will pour out a sea of graces upon those souls that will approach the font of My Mercy. Preparation for Divine Mercy Sunday, April 23rd The message of The Divine Mercy is simple. It is that God loves us all of us. And, he wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. The Divine Mercy message is one we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC: A - Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world. B - Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. C - Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive. This message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kowalska, an uneducated Polish nun who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God s mercy. Even before her death in 1938, the devotion to The Divine Mercy had begun to spread.

More than just a café, get to know fellow parishioners and stay a while. ACA UPDATE We are pleased to announce that we have achieved the Annual Catholic Appeal goal. Our assigned goal by the Diocese was $33,000. Thank you for your support. Without your out pouring of treasures, we could not have met our goal. At the present time we have exceeded the goal by $5,000. Any excess is given back to Our Lady of the Rosary for our operations. That is the good news. Last year, we collected $48,057 with the support of 372 families. This year, we have collected $38,684 from 140 families, and pledge commitments from 12 families of $3,200. That is 20% of our active families. The ACA is open all year. If you would like to commit to the Appeal, there are envelopes in the rear of the church, or call the office. Thank you again for helping OLR achieve our goal! May Crowning Sunday, May 7th at the 9 AM Mass Representatives from our Sunday School students will crown the Blessed Mother. The May Crowning is sponsored by the OLR Guild. Sanctuary Candle Memorial Our Lady of the Rosary is currently accepting reservations for the memorial votive candles within the church. Two types of candles are available. First, the red sanctuary lamps are available to be lit for a week, with a donation of $75. The second are the altar candles for a Mass, with a donation of $15. The intentions will be placed in the weekly bulletin, and a special card is available at the parish office. Are you registered at Our Lady of the Rosary? Or are you a new member? Being an active Our Lady of the Rosary membership is Important. A parishioner is, One who is registered and actively participates in the liturgical/pastoral life of the parish through the generous, sacrificial and proportionate sharing of his or her God-given giftedness of time, talent and treasure. Registration and regular support is essential to the proper administration of a parish, and necessary in order to become a properly identified member of a Parish family. This is the only way that we have of knowing that you are attending Our Lady of the Rosary and are an active participating member. This will be necessary in the event a letter of acknowledgement is requested for parish membership, and other sacramental requests or letters of permissions. Once you have reached the age of 18 you are no longer considered registered under your parents and must establish yourself as an adult parishioner.

Our Lady of the Rosary Church Page 6 A NEW BULLETIN COLUMN - ANSWERS TO CATHOLIC QUESTIONS Starting this week, we will have a new and interesting column in the bulletin: Answers to Catholic Questions. This column will appear twice a month in the bulletin, and will be archived on the OLR website. Over the coming months you find answers for many questions, we as Catholics ask. All of the materials have been approved for us by Catholic Answers. Answers to Catholic Questions Q. How can Mary be a perpetual virgin when Matthew 13:54-56 and Mark 6:3 says Jesus had brothers and sisters? A. Just because the bible references Jesus brothers and sisters (Matthew 13:54-56 and Mark 6:3) doesn t mean these individuals are Jesus blood brothers and sisters (coming from the same womb). If the usage of the word brother (Greek--adelphos) always meant a literal brother, then we would have to say Lot was Abraham s sibling since the Greek version of Genesis 14:12-14 uses adelphos to describe Lot s relation to Abraham. But we know this is not the case because Lot was Abraham s nephew. Furthermore, Luke uses adelphos when Ananias calls Paul brother in Acts 9:17 but that doesn t mean Ananias and Paul came from the same womb. Therefore, the conclusion, Jesus had blood brothers, doesn t follow from the premise, the bible says Jesus had brothers. The same reasoning would apply to the usage of sisters. So what did Matthew and Mark mean? One explanation is that they were Joseph s children from a previous marriage (the assumption being Joseph was a widower), which would make these individuals Jesus stepbrothers and stepsisters. This was a view common around the time of St. Jerome. It s also possible, however, that they were cousins of Jesus. This seems to be a plausible explanation because Matthew refers to these brothers of Jesus as being the sons of another Mary in Matthew 27:56, whom John refers to as Mary wife of Clopas and the sister of Jesus mother in John 19:25. Whether John is using sister in the literal or more general sense, the relation this Mary has with Jesus mother would make the brothers of the Lord his cousins. Q. What is the biblical reason Catholics pray to dead saints for intercession? A. No one prays to dead saints, because those in heaven are more alive than we are. The Lord is God of the living, not of the dead. The fervent prayer of a righteous man is very powerful (Jas 5:16). Those in heaven are surely righteous, since nothing unclean can enter heaven (Rv 21:27). Those in heaven are part of the Mystical Body of Christ and have not been separated from us by death, but surround us as a great cloud of witnesses (Heb 12:1). They stand before the throne of God and offer our prayers to him (Rv 5:8) and cheer us on as we run the good race. Intercession among members of the body of Christ is pleasing to God (1 Tm 2:1-4) and even commanded by him (Jn 15:17). Those in heaven have a perfected love, so how could they not intercede for us? Christ is the vine, and we are the branches; if we are connected to him, we are inseparably bound together as well. Can the eye say to the hand, "I need you not"? Neither are we to say we don t need the prayers of our brothers and sisters (alive here or in heaven), because salvation is a family affair. Q. Do the saints know our thoughts? A. It is generally held that the saints do not know our thoughts apart from certain circumstances. The human intellect is finite in nature and, though in a glorified state it is capable of processing vast amounts of information, it can t know everything. Further, the great majority of the saints are in the "intermediate state" between death and resurrection. They thus lack the perceptive abilities that an embodied person would have and (it is commonly held) gain their information directly from God by virtue of the beatific vision. Consistent with their state of beatitude, God would not withhold from them knowledge that was relevant to them, and if someone is asking for their intercession, that is relevant to them. Thus it is held that they are made aware by God of requests for their intercession (and other relevant information) but that they do not have unrestricted awareness of our thoughts and circumstances. Please, Come to Church Dressed Appropriately! To be modestly and tastefully dressed is a sign of respect for God, for our selves, and for others. It s a false assumption that God does not care how we dress. Jesus told us, Whatever you do to the least of my brothers, you do it to me. If our attire is indecently provocative (short shorts, strapless, backless, spaghetti strap dresses/tops, or displaying cleavage), displaying unwholesome graphics (skulls, advertisements, scantly clad people) or tattered, it becomes offensive to our brothers and sisters who are worshipping the Lord and therefore offensive to God s Majesty. Ask this question: Would you dress this way before God? You are! He sees everything and you are in His house.
