Responsive Scripture Psalm 8 Chuck Petty read responsively, congregation reads bold type One: Our Lord and Ruler, your name is wonderful everywhere on earth! All: You let your glory be seen in the heavens above. With praises from children and from tiny infants, you have built a fortress. It makes your enemies silent, and all who turn against you are left speechless. I often think of the heavens your hands have made, and of the moon and stars you put in place. Then I ask: Why do you care about us? Why are you concerned for us, for we are just human? You made us a little lower than yourself, and you have crowned us with glory and honor. You let us rule everything your hands have made. And you put all of it under our power the sheep and the cattle, and every wild animal, the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, and all ocean creatures. Our Lord and Ruler, your name is wonderful everywhere on earth! The Word of the Lord. Contemporary English Version, adapted Thanks be to God. Sermon Standing Tall When You re Thinking Small Dr. David Renwick WE RESPOND TO GOD S GRACE AND CALL Response Consider the Stars Keith & Kristin Getty Consider the stars in the sky; look up and wonder; can you count their number? and Fionán de Barra Consider the stars in the sky; umbrella to hide in, a dance floor of heaven. Do not be afraid. Consider the stars in the sky; when it is darkest they shine out the brightest. Consider the stars in the sky; in every anguish, O child, take courage. Do not be afraid. He who made all of this, and who holds all of this, holds you in his hands. Joanna Jones and Kevin Rose p Affirmation of Faith Apostles Creed Dr. Joyce Emery I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. Offering of Tithes and Gifts The Majesty and Glory of Your Name Tom Fettke When I gaze into the night skies and see the work of your fingers; the moon and stars suspended in space: O what is man, that you are mindful of him? You have given us a crown of glory and honor, and have made us a little lower than the angels. You have put us in charge of all creation: the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, the fish of the sea. But what is man, O what is man, that you are mindful of him? O Lord, our God, the majesty and glory of your name transcends the earth and fills the heavens. O Lord, our God, little children praise you perfectly, and so would we. Alleluia! Alleluia! The majesty and glory of your name! Alleluia! Alleluia! based on Psalm 8 Lasst uns erfreuen p Doxology Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise God above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! p Prayer of Dedication p Hymn How Great Thou Art O Store Gud O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder, consider all the works thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, thy power throughout the universe displayed: Refrain Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee, How great thou art, how great thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee, How great thou art! How great thou art! And when I think that God, his Son not sparing, sent him to die, I scarce can take it in; that on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, he bled and died to take away my sin: Refrain When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration, and there proclaim, My God, how great thou art!
