Adult Sunday School Today, Sunday, May 14th, 10:30-11:30 a.m. -- Scenes by the Wayside, Tales of the Sea -- with Ken Hover In William Parker s beloved hymn, Tell me the stories of Jesus, we sing of Tales of the Sea, or more literally, Tales of the Lake. And what better way to ease into a lakeside summer in Lansing than to discuss three of those tales as recorded in the 6th Chapter of John. We see that these stories are all connected to each other, and each connected to the lake in northern Israel, so similar in size to our own Cayuga Lake. At both lakes, the faithful gather on the shore, and the weather can change in a heartbeat! -- Listening: A Meditation Practice -- with Shared Leadership Be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10) Join us for a time of Holy awareness. Next Sunday, May 21st, 10:30-11:30 a.m. -- Islam 101 -- with Shada El Sayed and Pastor Alison Our friends from Moosala Noor return to share basic information about the Islamic faith, in the first of a three part series. Pastor Alison will be on hand to help clarify what we share in common, and in what ways Christianity is different. Sunday, May 28th -- Memorial Day, No Sunday School Campership Donations and Requests Deadline TODAY!, Sunday, May 14th The Camperships are funded almost entirely by donations from the congregation as well as the flower sale. If you d like to help support the Campership fund to assist families in sending their kids to Casowasco over the summer, please mark your donations specifically for Camperships and place in the collection plate or mail to LUMC. Every child should be able to go to camp, and money should be the last thing stopping them. Every dollar helps and is greatly appreciated! The deadline to submit Campership requests is today, Sunday, May 14th. Please leave them in

Kevin Klippel s mail folder near the main office. We ll help as much as we re able to! If additional help is needed in addition to a Campership from LUMC, please contact Casowasco directly. We ll remember the themes, memory verses, some games and activities, and the worship music from great programs of the past (like G-Force and Cave Quest). Join us for a rousing look back at Vacation Bible Schools of yore as we approach this summer s Maker Fun Factory in July! LUMC Adults in Mission Hosting Dinner at Ithaca Rescue Mission Next Sunday, May 21st, 3:00 p.m. The Adults in Mission group is coordinating a dinner at the Ithaca Rescue Mission on Sunday, May 21st, at 3:00 p.m. We are in need of our congregation s assistance to provide enough food for up to 50 people. If you are interested in helping in any capacity, see the sign-up sheets in the Narthex or contact Laura Alexander (alexanderlaura@yahoo.com or 533-4869).

A Word from our Finger Lakes District Superintendent: "People were overcome with wonder, saying, 'He does everything well! He makes the deaf to hear and gives speech to those who can't speak.' " (Mark 7:37, CEV) I love Jesus for this, but I have not been able to do everything well. Have you? St. Paul wrote that he had become "all things to all people, to save some by all possible means." (I Cor. 9:23) But I have tried that and failed. I have learned over my lifetime the importance of focusing my mind, heart, and energy. I constantly have to refocus. Plus, no one person can do it all; we need each other in the body of Christ called church. Our United Methodist church has been extremely distracted. We need to focus. We cannot solve all the problems of the world. Let alone bridge the gap within our denomination on human power. We need God's direction. Pray for our Commission on a Way Forward. Pray for our General Conference Special session in 2019. Pray for our upcoming Annual Conference. This is a great time to focus again on our mission. Please read the [article linked below] from our United Methodist News Service. Our Council of Bishops is calling us back to basics together, through the Four Areas of Focus. -- Rev. Jeffrey McDowell (http://www.lansingunited.org/pastoralisondocs/umc-fourareasoffocus.pdf) P.S. Please join me and our Lay Leader, Shafeegh Habeeb, in Praying with me for our denomination, on May 21 at 2:30, at the Rose UMC. Name Tags New Location May 14th - June 11th Due to construction beginning in the education wing tomorrow, the name tags have been moved to the Narthex, under the coat racks. They will remain in this new location until Sunday, June 11th. If you need to hang your coat, there are a few hangers still available and plenty of coat hooks in the airlock of the main entrance. If you need a name tag, please let the office know (lumcoffice@twcny.rr.com) so we can create one for you. (You do not need to be a member to have a name tag.) Thank you! Free Interfaith Community Dinner -- Neighbors Getting to Know Neighbors! Thursday, May 25th, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at Tikkun v Or, Ithaca Reform Temple Congregation Tikkun v Or and LUMC will co-host an Interfaith Community Dish-to-Pass on Thursday, May 25th, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Ithaca Reform Temple, 2550 N. Triphammer Rd, Ithaca. Dinner is free and everyone is welcome! Please bring a labeled vegetarian or dairy dishto-pass and an open heart to meet new friends. If time or budget, make the dish a hardship, please be our guest! Join us for an evening of good food, fellowship & conversation. Want to get involved? Questions? Contact: AdultMinistries@LansingUnited.org Did you know? that scientists recently announced the discovery of a star roughly 40 light-years away with 7 planets orbiting in that star s habitable zone? In other words, these planets are able to support liquid water and, therefore, a high possibility of living organisms. The Sr. High youth, however, discussed at youth group on Friday, May 5th, that even if life of any kind was found on another planet, they wouldn t feel like God saw Earth or humans or each person in particular as any less special or valuable. Just because we re potentially not alone in the universe doesn t mean God didn t still create us in His image and doesn t discount the special role God has given to humans of Earth in his creation. In other words, science and faith can get along just fine with each other. Imagine that!

Attendance Last Sunday: Worship 161 Nursery 5 Prayer Concerns Jim Lee Hillis Wilson Jackie Baker (no visitors please) Sally Dawson (sister of Pat Gillespie) Carl Nedrow (father of Abby Hatfield) Howard & Sharon Lewis (friends of the Bidlespachers) Prayer requests can be written on a Prayer Card and placed in the offering plate.
