The participation of His Excellency Senior General Than Shwe at these Informal Summit Meetings reaffirms the ;sincere desire of the Government and people of Myanmar to work together with fellow ASEAN members in all the activities of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. It also demonstrates Myanmar's commitment to the common pledge to live together in peace and harmony in the family of nations in Southeast Asia and in Asia, in which the countries in the region commit themselves to work together in the interest of the whole region. While in Kuala Lumpur, His Excellency, Senior General Than Shwe will have the opportunity to renew personal contact.s and exchange views with other Heads of State/ Government of the Southeast Asian countries and of the People's Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea. He will also be holding separate meetings with His Excellency President Mr Jiang Zemirl of the People's Republic of China: His Excellency Prime Minister Dato' Seri Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad of Malaysia: His Excellency Prime Minister Mr Goh Chok Tong of the Republic of Singapore: His Excellency Prime Minister Mr Chuan Leekpai of the Kingdom of Thailand: His Excellency Prime Minister Mr Phan Van Khai ofif the Socialist Repulic of Vietnam and His Excellency Prime Minister Mr Khamtay Siphandone of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to discuss bilateral, regional and other matters of mutual interest. They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint and their wives, members of the State Peace and Development Council, Deputy Prime Ministers Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and Lt-Gen Tin Tun and their wives, ministers, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Ambassador of Lao People's Democratic Republic Mr Ly Bounkham and heads of diplomatic missions and personnel of UN agencies and their wives. (4) Secretary-2 visits Housing & Building '97 Exhibition YANGON, 13 Dec- Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo viewed the Housing & Building '97 Exhibition at Tatmadaw Convention Centre this morning. Accompanied by Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, Vice-Quartermaster General Brig-Gen Kyaw Win and officials, the Secretary-2 arrived at the exhibition at l U am today and toured it. Managing Director of TTF (Yangon) Co Ltd Mr Anant Prasertsit and Executive Director U Myint Maung Tun and officials conducted the Secretary-2 round the exhibition. Altogether 17 companies are taking part in the exhibition which ends tomorrow. (5) MIC Chairman arrives back from Thailand YANGON, 13 Dec - A three-member Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and including Minister at the Office of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Secretary of MIC Brig-Gen Maung Maung arrived back here by air from Bangkok yesterday after attending the meeting of Heads of Investment Organizations from ASEAN member nations. They were welcomed,back at Yangon International Airport by Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun, Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs U Soe Tha and officials.- _ (6) Tatmadaw soccer team leaves for SRV YANGON, 13 Dec - Tatmadaw soccer team led by Deputy Commandant of Defence Services Self-defence and Sports Institute Lt-Col Maung Ko left here by air this morning for Vietnam to play goodwill soccer matches to mark Vietnam Peoples Army Day. The Tatmadaw soccer team was seen off at Mingaladon Air Force Base by Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint,Vice-djutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Director of Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, Commander of Mingaladon Air Forces Base Brig-Gen Ba Htay Chit and Tatmadaw officers, Military Attache Senior Col Nguyen Ngoc Lu and officials. (7) Deputy Minister for Labour arrived back YANGON, 13 Dec- A Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for Labour 'J Kyaw Aye arrived back ere by air yesterday after lending the 1 2nd Asian regional Meeting of ILO leld in Bangkok from 9 to 11 December. They were welcomed back

at the Yangon International Airport by Minister for Labour Vice-Admiral Tin Aye, heads of departments and committees, departmental officials and relatives. (8) Ministers oversee laying of gas pipeline, power Supply in Dawei District YANGON, 13 Dec-Minister for Energy U Khin Maung Thein, Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut, Deputy Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Thein Aung, officials and General Manager of Total Myanmar Exploration and Production Co Mr F Rafin arrived at the base camp of Yadana Natural Gas Project in Kanbauk region, Yebyu Township, Dawei District on 12 December. The ministers were welcomed by Brig-Gen Thura Maung Ni of Myeik Station, Col Kyaw Hsan of Dawei Station, staff of Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise and foreign experts. Director of MOGE U Sein Hlaing and General Manager Mr F Rafin reported on completion of natural gas pipeline and measures for maintenance. The ministers and party went to Metering Station and inspected construction and laying of pipeline to the boundary in Nateintaung region. The ministers proceeded to Kanbauk Region Natural Gas Power Station where Chief Engineer U Yan Naing of Myanma Electric Power Enterprise and officials reported on progress of work and construction of 66 KV power line from Kanbauk to Dawei and Yay. The two ministers fulfilled the requirements. They went to the pipeline control camp and Minister U Khin Maung Thein gave instruction. They then proceeded to the beach near Daminseik Village, Yebyu Township and inspected the linking of the pipeline offshore and inland and tests. The ministers met villagers and members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association. Minister U Khin Maung Thein and Mr F Rafin presented cash and relief goods to fire victims of Daminseik Village. On 13 December, member of the Secretariat of USDA U Khin Maung Thein, Minister Maj-Gen Tin Htut and Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thein Aung met EC members of Division, District and Township USDA and members at Dawei City Hall. Minister U Khin Maung Thein explained political, economic and social affairs, setup and training of the association. He discussed discharging duties in accord with the policies laid down. Minister Maj-Gen Tin Htut explained the national objectives and spoke of endeavors for national development. Minister U Khin Maung Thein met staff of Dawei District under the Ministry of Energy and Minister Maj-Gen Tin Htut also met service personnel under his ministry and inspected construction of 66 KV subpower station and power Supply in Dawei.

(9) Deputy Prime Minister meets Thai Prime Minister YANGON, 13 Dec - A four-member Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin went to Bangkok from 9 to 12 December to attend the meeting of Heads of Investment Organizations from ASEAN member nations and the high-level coordination meeting on attracting foreign investment to Asia and Pacific regions, which was sponsored by Washington-based Foreign Investment Advisory Group. The Deputy Prime Minister and party left here for Bangkok by air at 11.55 am on 9 December, and arrived there at 1.30 pm local time. They were welcomed at the airport by Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand U Hla Maung and officials of the Office of the Thai Investment Board. In the evening, Vice Admiral Maung Maung Khin and Brig-Gen Maung Maung; Minister at the Office of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Secretary of MIC, together with heads of investment organizations from other ASEAN member nations, attended the dinner hosted by Secretary-General of TIB Mr Staporn Kavitanon. The delegation attended the meeting of Heads of Investment Organizations from ASEAN member nations and took part in the discussions at Regent Hotel, Bangkok, on 10 December. In the evening, the delegation attended the reception hosted by the Foreign Investment Advisory Group and the dinner by Senator Mr Prayudh Mahagitsiri. The delegation attended the high-level coordination meeting on attracting foreign investment to Asia and Pacific regions at Regent Hotel on 11 December. Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin, accompanied by Brig-Gen Maung Maung and Ambassador U Hla Maung, called on Prime Minister of Thailand Mr Chuan Leekpai at the parliament building. They discussed matters pertaining to mutual benefits. In the evening, the delegation attended the reception hosted by the Office of TIB and the dinner by Governor Mr Pala Sukawesh of Petroleum Authority of Thailand. Yesterday, the delegation attended the high-level coordination meeting for the second day. They left Bangkok by air at 7.05 pm local Time.
