Transcription:

In Preparation for the Lord s Supper The Bible tells us (1 Corinthians 11:23-29) that it is vitally important that we understand and believe that the Lord s Supper is a participation in the very Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. To receive the blessings of this Sacrament to our benefit it is necessary that we examine our hearts and our lives. Please read and prayerfully consider the following: I believe that I am sinful by nature and in need of forgiveness. I confess that I have sinned in my thoughts, words, and deeds. I believe I am forgiven only through faith in Jesus Christ. I confess that in, with, and under the bread and wine I receive the very Body and Blood of Jesus. I promise with the help of the Holy Spirit to amend my sinful life and strive to live a God-pleasing life. As members of Jesus family, we have a responsibility to teach and encourage one another so that we receive the blessing intended for us in this Sacrament. Out of sincere love, we respectfully ask that those who have not been instructed and confirmed in the Lutheran Church please speak with a pastor before attending the Lord s Supper. St. Luke s offers Explorations an adult information class for those high school age and above desiring to be confirmed. Children are confirmed at the end of their eighth grade year after completing instruction. We are happy to meet with you and discuss any special circumstances or needs you may have. Communion Procedure Note: Anyone who cannot come to the communion rail may receive the Lord s Supper in the pew. Simply let a pastor or usher know your request and sit in one of the front rows. Those who are not communing are invited to come forward for a blessing (please fold your hands across your chest to indicate your desire for a blessing). 2 St. Luke s Lutheran Church - Oviedo, FL

Monday, April 2, 2018 at 7 pm As We Gather: Today we gather to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The hymns and liturgy resound with multiple Hallelujahs. May the Spirit of God enable us to sing these joyous songs of faith, proclaiming to each other, and to the world, that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father! Preservice Music Welcome Ringing of the Bell Invocation: (All stand and face the processional cross at the back of the center aisle.) P: In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. (Matthew 28:19b) Easter Monday 3

Confession: P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. C: But if we confess our sins, God, Who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (I John 1:8-9) Silence for reflection on God s Word and for self-examination. P: Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. C: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. Absolution Easter Acclamation: P: Alleluia! Christ is Risen! C: He is risen indeed! Alleluia! P: You make known to me the path of life; C: in Your presence there is fullness of joy. (Psalm 16:11, ESV) P: Christ has been raised from the dead, C: the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. (1 Corinthians 15:20, ESV) P: Alleluia! Christ is Risen! C: He is risen indeed! C: Amen. Easter Monday 5

Old Testament Reading: Isaiah 25:6-9 (ESV) 6 On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. 7 And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. 8 He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. 9 It will be said on that day, Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation. P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. 6 St. Luke s Lutheran Church - Oviedo, FL

Hymn: Christ the Lord Is Risen Today; Alleluia LSB 463 1. Christ the Lord is ris n today; Alleluia! Christians, hasten on your way; Alleluia! Offer praise with love replete, Alleluia! At the paschal victim s feet. Alleluia! 2. For the sheep the Lamb has bled, Alleluia! Sinless in the sinner s stead. Alleluia! Christ the Lord is ris n on high; Alleluia! Now He lives, no more to die. Alleluia! 3. Hail, the victim undefiled, Alleluia! God and sinners reconciled, Alleluia! When contending death and life, Alleluia! Met in strange and awesome strife. Alleluia! 4. Christians, on this holy day, Alleluia! All your grateful homage pay; Alleluia! Christ the Lord is ris n on high; Alleluia! Now He lives, no more to die. Alleluia! Easter Monday 7

The Epistle Reading: I Corinthians 15:1-11 (ESV) 1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed. P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. Gospel Procession: The congregation stands and faces the cross. While the following hymn is sung, the Gospel procession moves to the center of the congregation. The Gospel is read among the people to symbolize the living Word among us. 8 St. Luke s Lutheran Church - Oviedo, FL

Gospel Hymn: Christ the Lord Is Risen Today LSB 469 1. Christ the Lord is ris n today! Saints on earth and angels say; Raise your joys and triumphs high; Sing, ye heav ns, and earth, reply. 2. Love s redeeming work is done, Fought the fight, the battle won; Lo! Our Sun s eclipse is o er; Lo! He sets in blood no more. 3. Vain the stone, the watch, the seal; Christ hath burst the gates of hell. Death in vain forbids His rise; Christ has opened paradise. 4. Lives again our glorious King! Where, O death, is now thy sting? Once He died our souls to save; Where thy victory, O grave? 5. Soar we now where Christ has led; Foll wing our exalted Head. Made like Him, like Him we rise; Ours the cross, the grave, the skies. 6. Hail the Lord of earth and heav n! Praise to Thee by both be giv n! Thee we greet triumphant now: Hail, the resurrection, Thou! Easter Monday 9

Holy Gospel: Mark 16:1-8 (ESV) P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the sixteenth chapter. C: Glory be to You, O Lord. 1 When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. 2 And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. 3 And they were saying to one another, Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb? 4 And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back it was very large. 5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. 6 And he said to them, Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you. 8 And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise be to You, O Christ. 10 St. Luke s Lutheran Church - Oviedo, FL

Hymn of the Day: I Know That My Redeemer Lives LSB 461:1-2, 7-8 7 He lives and grants me daily breath; He lives, and I shall conquer death; He lives my mansion to prepare; He lives to bring me safely there. 8 He lives, all glory to His name! He lives, my Jesus, still the same; Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives: I know that my Redeemer lives! Sermon Easter Monday 11

Affirmation of Faith: Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Preface: Holy Communion We are celebrating the Sacrament of Holy Communion which we believe to be a great gift from our loving God. Please read In Preparation for Holy Communion on page 2. P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them to the Lord. P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C: It is right to give Him thanks and praise. P: It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, Holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God; but chiefly are we bound to praise You for the glorious resurrection of Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord; for He is the very Lamb of God, which was offered for us and has taken away the sins of the world. By His death He has destroyed death, and by His rising to life again He has restored to us everlasting life. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and singing: Sanctus: Easter Monday 13

Lord s Prayer: Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Words of Institution Peace: P: The peace of the Lord be with you always. C: And also with you. Agnus Dei: 14 St. Luke s Lutheran Church - Oviedo, FL
