April 28 PROPER MASSES FOR THE MONTFORTIAN FAMILY SAINT LOUIS MARIE GRIGNION DE MONTFORT, priest Founder and Patron of the Montfortian Family Solemnity ENTRANCE ANTIPHON (Is 52,7) How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of one who brings good news, who heralds peace, brings happiness, proclaims salvation, and tells Zion, Your God is reigns! Alleluia. The Gloria is said or sung. COLLECT O God, you inspired Saint Louis Marie to undertake the apostolic mission of preaching the Gospel of Christ your Son to all people. Aided by his prayers and taught by the Virgin Mary, grant that we may be open to the inspiration of your Spirit, attentive to the cries of the poor, and so become untiring messengers of your reign. We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. The Creed is said or sung. PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS O Lord, may the gifts we present on this feast of Saint Louis Marie, free us from the cares and selfishness of the world. May we glorify your holy and powerful name with all our hearts. We make our prayer through Christ our Lord. PREFACE St Louis de Montfort, missionary of true Wisdom

V/. The Lord be with you. And also with you. V/. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. V/. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give Him thanks and praise. It is truly right to give you thanks; it is good to sing of your mercy, Holy Father, Lord of heaven and earth. You revealed to the poor the mysteries of your Kingdom through Christ our Lord. You taught Saint Louis Marie in the school of divine Wisdom. Impelled by your Spirit, he preached the sublime folly of the Cross. With a heart dedicated to you alone and filled with true devotion to Mary, he called all people to rekindle in their lives the splendour of baptismal grace. And so (in the fullness of Easter joy) we join with the angels and the saints, to sing with one voice the hymn of your glory: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord... COMMUNION ANTIPHON (cf. Jn 17, 3) This is eternal life: to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ your Son, whom you have sent, born of the Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION God our Father, through the powerful mystery of these sacraments confirm us in faith, so that totally dedicated to you in love, we may always bear witness to the wisdom of the Gospel for which Saint Louis Marie laboured tirelessly until death. We make our prayer through Christ the Lord.

SOLEMN BLESSING The deacon, or in his absence the priest himself, invites the faithful to pray in these or similar words: Bow your heads, and pray for God's blessing. Then the priest, extending his hands over the people, gives the blessing. God our Father has brought us together today to celebrate the feast of Saint Louis Marie de Montfort; may he strengthen you in faithfulness to his call. Amen Christ our Lord brought his kingdom into being (cf. TD 49) through the faith of the Virgin Mary; may he give you grace to serve both God and neighbour with the zeal and generosity of Saint Louis Marie. Amen. The Holy Spirit inflamed the missionary fervour of Saint Louis Marie; may he make you true witnesses to Easter life before all those whom you meet on your way. Amen. And may the blessing of Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Come down on you, and remain with you always. Amen. VOTIVE MASS OF SAINT LOUIS MARIE GRIGNION DE MONTFORT In particular circumstances (gatherings, retreats, meetings), and when the Calendar permits, the following Mass may be used. ENTRANCE ANTIPHON (cf. Ps 116, 16-17) O Lord, I am your servant, the child of your handmaid. I will offer you a sacrifice of praise, and will call on your holy and powerful name.

COLLECT O God of eternal wisdom, you made Saint Louis Marie de Montfort an outstanding witness and teacher of perfect dedication to Christ your Son through his holy Mother; grant that we may work with you for the coming of your Kingdom by following the same spiritual path. We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS Merciful Father, you formed in St. Louis Marie an image of our restored humanity, created in justice and holiness. Grant that we too may be renewed in the Spirit and worthily offer you a sacrifice of praise. We make our prayer through Christ our Lord. Preface from the Mass for the Solemnity, 28th of April. COMMUNION ANTIPHON (cf. Jn 19, 27) Lifted high on the Cross, Jesus said to the disciple whom he loved, Behold your mother. And from that moment, the disciple made a place for her in his home. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION Almighty God, in these sacraments you give us the power of your Spirit; grant that we may learn from the example of Saint Louis Marie to seek you above all things, and so to bear in our own bodies the image of Christ, crucified and risen, Who lives and reigns forever and ever.

LECTIONARY April 28 SAINT LOUIS MARIE GRIGNION DE MONTFORT, priest Founder and Patron of the Montfortian Family Solemnity FIRST READING Acts 1, 6-14 You will receive power from the Holy Spirit, and you will be my witnesses A reading from the Acts of the Apostles So when they had come together, they asked him, Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel? He replied, It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven. Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath day s journey away. When they had entered the city, they went to the room upstairs where they were staying. Peter, John, and James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. All these were constantly devoting themselves to prayer, together with certain women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, as well as his brothers. The word of the Lord. RESPONSORIAL PSALM Ps. 21, 26-27; 28; 29.30c.31a; 31b-32 My soul shall live for God alone. You are my praise in the great assembly. My vows I will pay before those who fear him. The poor shall eat and shall have their fill. They shall praise the Lord, those who seek him. May their hearts live for ever and ever!

All the earth shall remember and return to the Lord, all families of the nations worship before him. I will announce the Lord s salvation to my brethren. For the kingdom is the Lord s; he is ruler of the nations. And my soul shall live for him, my children serve him. They shall tell of the Lord to generations yet to come, declare his faithfulness to peoples yet unborn: These things the Lord has done. SECOND READING 1 Cor. 1, 17-25 It has pleased God to save believers through the foolishness of our preaching A reading from the First Letter of St Paul to the Corinthians For Christ did not send me to baptize but to proclaim the gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom, so that the cross of Christ might not be emptied of its power. For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart. Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, God decided through the foolishness of our proclamation to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For God s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God s weakness is stronger than human strength. The word of the Lord. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION 1 Cor. 1, 30 Alleluia. Alleluia. You are in Christ Jesus, who, through the work of God, has become for us our wisdom, and our justice, our sanctification, and our redemption. Alleluia.

GOSPEL Mt. 28, 16-20 Go and teach all I have commanded you. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. The Gospel of the Lord. VOTIVE MASSES FOR ST. LOUIS MARIE DE MONTFORT FIRST READINGS AND RESPONSORIAL PSALMS 1. Outside the Easter Season The Lord has anointed me and sent me to the poor Is. 61, 1-3. 11 A reading from the prophet Isaiah The spirit of the Lord God has been given to me, for he has anointed me. He has sent me to bring the good news to the poor, to bind up hearts that are broken; to proclaim liberty to captives, freedom to those in prison; to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord, a day of vengeance for our God, to comfort all those who mourn, to console those who mourn in Zion, and to give them for ashes a garland; for mourning robe the oil of gladness, for despondency, praise. For as the earth makes fresh things grow, as a garden makes seeds spring up, so will the Lord God make both integrity and praise spring up in the sight of the nations. The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Ps. 39, 6. 7-8a. 8b-9. 10-11 Here I am, O Lord, I come to do your will. How many, O Lord my God, are the wonders and designs that you have worked for us; you have no equal. Should I proclaim and speak of them, they are more than I can tell! You do not ask for sacrifice and offerings, but an open ear. You do not ask for holocaust and victim, instead, here am I. In the scroll of the book it stands written, that I should do your will. My God I delight in your law in the depth of my heart. Your justice I have proclaimed in the great assembly. My lips I have not sealed; you know it, O Lord. I have not hidden your justice in my heart, but declared your faithful help. 2. Outside the Easter Season The Lord grants wisdom to those who listen Prv. 2, 1-11 A reading from the book of Proverbs My child, if you accept my words and treasure up my commandments within you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; if you indeed cry out for insight and raise your voice for understanding; if you seek it like silver, and search for it as for hidden treasures then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk blamelessly, guarding the paths of justice and preserving the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; prudence will watch over you; and understanding will guard you. The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Wis. 9, 1a.4.5a; 9; 10 Blessed are those who seek you with all their heart, O Lord. O God of my ancestors and Lord of mercy, give me the wisdom that sits by your throne, and do not reject me from among your servants, for I am your servant and the son of your serving girl. With you is wisdom, she who knows your works and was present when you made the world; she understands what is pleasing in your sight and what is right according to your commandments. Send her forth from the holy heavens, and from the throne of your glory send her, that she labor at my side, and that I may learn what is pleasing to you. 3. We preach Christ the wisdom and power of God 1 Cor. 1, 17-25 (see the second reading of the Mass for April 28) RESPONSORIAL PSALM Ps. 32 (33), 4-5. 8-9. 10-11. 13-15 Your wisdom, O Lord, renews the whole earth. The word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations. The Lord looks down from heaven; he sees all humankind. From where he sits enthroned he watches all the inhabitants of the earth.

4. We are your servants for Jesus sake 2 Cor. 4, 1-2.5-7 A reading from the second letter of St Paul to the Corinthians Therefore, since it is by God s mercy that we are engaged in this ministry, we do not lose heart. We have renounced the shameful things that one hides; we refuse to practice cunning or to falsify God s word, but by the open statement of the truth we commend ourselves to the conscience of everyone in the sight of God. For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus sake. For it is the God who said, Let the light shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us. The word of the Lord. RESPONSORIAL PSALM Ps. 39, 6. 7-8a. 8b-9. 10-11 (see above, no. 1) GOSPEL ACCLAMATIONS AND GOSPELS 1. Alleluia. Alleluia. (from the Lectionary, Masses for the BVM) The cross of Christ is a sign of the covenant which I have established between myself and all creatures upon the earth. Alleluia. Behold your son! Behold your mother! Jn. 19, 25-27 A reading from the holy Gospel according to John Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother and his mother s sister, Mary, the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. Seeing his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her, Jesus said to his mother, Woman, this is your son. Then to the disciple he said, This is your mother. And from that moment, the disciple made a place for her in his home. The Gospel of the Lord.

2. Alleluia. Alleluia. cf. Mt. 10, 5.9 The Kingdom of God is in your midst says the Lord; take the message of peace to all peoples. Alleluia. The blessed of the Kingdom (Mt. 5, 1-12) A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. The Gospel of the Lord. 3. Alleluia. Alleluia cf. Mt. 28, 19.20 Go and teach all nations, says the Lord; behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the world. Alleluia. The missioning of the disciples (Lk. 10, 1-9) A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. He said to them, The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. God on your way. See, I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves. Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet no one on the road. Whatever house you enter, first say, Peace to this house! And if anyone is there who shares in peace, your peace will

rest on that person; but if not, it will return to you. Remain in the same house, eating and drinking whatever they provide, for the laborer deserves to be paid. Do not move about from house to house. Whenever you enter a town and its people welcome you, eat what is set before you; cure the sick who are there, and say to them, The kingdom of God has come near to you. The Gospel of the Lord.
