A New Perspective on Forgiveness Contemporar Lutheran pastor, Nadia Bolz-Weber shared some insights about forgiveness that can enrich our quest to forgive. She sas that the harm of injustice done to us connects us like a chain. Possibl retaliation doesn t combat evil but rather feeds it! Pastor Bolz-Weber speaks of forgiveness saing: What ou did was so not ok, that I refuse to be connected to it anmore. Forgiveness is taking bolt-cutters and snapping the chain. Faith and Doubt Ma we start out with bolt-cutters of forgiveness that we ma be free to grow in faith! When I was studing about faith and doubt, I valued seeing Jesus relationship with Peter. Peter definitel walked a challenged journe with faith. He was so adamant about his faithfulness to Jesus, Peter declared, If everone else deserts ou, I won t. (Matthew 26:33-35) Then he denied Jesus three times! On another occasion, the storm, Peter spoke to Jesus, Sir, if it is reall ou, tell me to come over to ou, walking on the water. All right, the Lord said, come along! So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he looked around at the high waves, he was terrified and began to sink. Save me, Lord! he shouted. Instantl Jesus reached out his hand and rescued him. O man of little faith, Jesus said. Wh did ou doubt me? (Matthew 14:28-31 TLB) What was Jesus relationship to this man, Peter? At the Last Supper, Jesus told Peter that he begged God in praer That our faith should not completel fail...peter, Peter I have praed for ou. (Luke 22:31-32 TLB) As we look at the New Testament, we see such evidence of our forgiving faithful Jesus to humans who have hearts for God and tr. Ma we realize how ver much God loves us as we look to Jesus in our doubt as we seek deeper faith. How tin the mustard seed! Surel, we each have been gifted with that amount of faith. Kathleen Bleaert TLB The Living Bible
