Isn t that right, Zaney? Isn t that right, Zaney? (He goes to where Zaney should enter) Zaney! Why aren t you entering? (offstage) I don t really like thunderstorms very much. Imani: Zaney it s a show. There s not really a storm we re we re just pretending there s a storm! Remember? Note: If there just HAPPENS to be a thunderstorm on this day, just roll with it! Change the dialogue up to fit the weather that day. Example: Don t be afraid, Zaney! The storm is outside and we re inside! Let s all cheer for Zaney so she won t be so scared! Etc. Zaney: (offstage) Oh yeah! I remember now. Zaney enters. Imani: Welcome my awesome sidekick, Zaney, everyone! Cheer Sign; Audience cheers! Imani: But I can t do this alone. I need my super helper, always faithful, ever present, delightfully diligent sidekick, Zaney! Cheer Sign; Audience cheers! Zaney: Join us today as we discover The Crazy Truth! Sign; Audience shouts: Audience: The Crazy Truth! Imani: Today, we re going to capture the power of a storm and put it in a little itty-bitty bottle. Whattya think of that, kids?! 2

That s Crazy sign; Audience shouts: Audience: That s Crazy! Enter Doctor Doubt Doubt: Crazy?! Why, that s impossible! Dr. Doubt, Get Out! Sign; Audience shouts: Audience: Doctor Doubt, get out! Doubt: A storm in a bottle? There s absolutely no way you could ever do something as amazing as that! Zaney: (dramatically) Take off that scour, your doubt, we ll devour, watch the man of the hour and don t doubt the power!!! Doubt: You really need to take it down a notch. Imani: Zaney, you remind me a lot of Jesus very headstrong and energetic disciples, Peter. Zaney: Really? Doubt: Oh, great. Here we go again. BIBLE SRY Peter and Disciple are on a boat and rocking back and forth. It s storming a bit, the wind is blowing, the mist (smoke machine) billows a bit. Peter: I don t really like storms. Why didn t we check the weather forecast before getting on this boat?! Disciple: What s a weather forecast? Ugh I think I m gonna be sick. Disciple ducks below out of sight. Peter: Not on the deck I just cleaned that (sick noises from Disciple) yesterday. Disciple pops up looking a little better. Enter Jesus in the back out of sight. Over the next lines he slowly moves toward the boat/stage. Peter: Really? All this water? You couldn t just lean over and (suddenly alarmed and pointing) Ahhhh! What s that?! 3

Peter ducks out of sight, only hands and face just above the eyes visible. Disciple: (spotting it and also alarmed) I don t know but it s walking this way! Disciple ducks out of sight, only hands and face just above the eyes visible. Peter: (popping up) Walking this way?! How can it be walking this way?! There s nothing but water as far as the eye can see! How can something be walking this way?!!!! Peter ducks again. Disciple: (popping up) Not something! Someone! Peter: (popping up) Someone?! Disciple: (popping up) Yes! Peter: (up) Who?! Disciple: (up) It s a ghost!!! Peter: (up) A what?! Disciple: (up) A ghost!!! Peter: (up) A ghost?! Disciple: (up) Yes, a ghost!!! Peter: (up) Ahh!!! 4

Disciple: (up) Ahh!!! Peter: (up) Ahh!!! Disciple: (up) Ahh!!! Peter: (up) Ahh!!! Disciple: (up) Ahh!!! Peter: (up) Ahh!!! (And then catching a better look) Wait a second. That s not a ghost! Disciple: (up) It s not? Peter: (squinting to see clearly through the mist) It s it s it s Jesus! They both are standing, seem to calm a bit then look at each other and Both: AHHHHHHHH!!!!!! They duck completely out of sight. Peter: (still out of sight) What am I doing? It s Jesus! There s nothing to be afraid of! (Standing exuberantly, he starts waving his hands around) Jesus! Jesus!! It s me! Peter! We re over here! Can you see us?! Jesus: Of course, I can see you, Pete. You re standing right in front of me. Disciple: (completely dumbfounded) Are you walking on water? Jesus: Yup. Disciple: That s impossible! Jesus: It s not impossible because, well I m doing it right now. 5

Peter: (completely stoked) I wanna do it too. Disciple: What?! Peter: Jesus. I believe in the power of God. I can have faith like that. The kind of faith that lets me walk on water! I wanna walk on the water with you. Jesus: (demure) Peter (and then pumping him up) let s do this thing!!! Disciple: What?! Peter: Sweet! (Figuring it out this is all new) Ok, so I should just (starts leaning over the boat a bit and then retreating) Ok wait, if I just (starts to swing a leg over then retreats) or maybe if I tried to (turns around and tries to somehow back out awkwardly) no that s not going to Jesus: Peter. (Holding out his hand) Come. Peter climbs out but he stands. Peter: (triumphantly marching around a bit) I m walking on water! Disciple: (triumphantly) You re walking on water! Jesus: (celebrating) You re walking on water! Peter: (a bit less sure of it, slower more hesitant walking) I m walking on water. Disciple: (a bit less sure of it) You re walking on water. Jesus: (a bit more matter of fact) You re walking on water. Peter: (suddenly stopping, shaking, doubting) I m walking on water?! Disciple: (noticing he s losing it) You re walking on water? Jesus: Peter: Jesus: (matter of fact) Actually, you re sinking. Ahhhhh!!!! Jesus save me! Aw, Pete (reaches out and grabs his hand and steadies him) You of little faith. Why did you doubt? Jesus and Disciple help Peter into the boat and Jesus climbs in too. Peter: At least I stopped believing you were a ghost. Disciple: (thinking Peter said he saw another ghost) A ghost?! 6

Disciple and Peter look at each other. Peter & Disciple: Ahhhh!!!!! Peter and Disciple duck out of sight. Jesus rolls his eyes. EXIT in boat. LAB SCENE Doubt: Zaney: Doubt: Zaney: So what? Peter believed in the power of God, but then he completely lost faith. How is this a good story? Dr. Doubt, it s hard to have faith sometimes, but Peter showed amazing faith. Miraculous faith! He walked on water! ON WA-TER! Yeah, but he still sank! SA-ANK! Why are you even here? Dr. Doubt, Get Out! Sign; Audience shouts: Audience: Doctor Doubt, get out! Doubt: Alright, alright, I m going. But you know I m right. (Exiting) You know I m right. Zaney: Oh yeah, well I think I don t even think you I mean, I m gonna She s lost and not sure what to do next. Imani: (getting back on task) How about that storm in a bottle, Zaney?! Zaney: (still sort of out of it) The what? (Recovering) Oh yeah! That s right! Let s put the power of that storm in a bottle so we can take it anywhere we go and have the power whenever we need it! Imani: Let s do it! With just a flick of this switch we will be able to catch the power of a storm and put it in a bottle! Whattya think of that kids?! That s Crazy sign; Audience shouts: Audience: That s crazy! Zaney: That s Christ! The Crazy Truth is, kids, Peter had great faith and he could walk on water because of that faith, just like Jesus! It was a miracle! Oh, Zaney whatever you do don t hit the Zaney: (bumping into it) Whoops! Uh oh. 7

Storm sounds begin. Fog machine. Lights flashing. Zaney: Um I don t know about this! I don t like storms very much. Imani: Just remember, this isn t a real storm. And remember that we have the power! Have faith and you can walk on water! Be like Jesus and walk this way! Zaney: Walk which way?! Imani: Walk this way! Walk this Way by Aerosmith chorus Imani: You can do it! Zaney: I can do it! Everybody! Have faith! You have the power! Imani & Zaney: Walk this way! They walk dance off stage. 8

HOW Split stage presentation where Imani s Lab is on one part of the stage and the other stage is for the Bible story. If possible, rehearse with your Sign Holder/Adults/Counselors/Teachers prior to the presentation the interactive audience lines. Also, none of your inventions need to actually do what they say. They just need to appear to do what they say. The idea is to have the invention be a part of the interactive aspect and in this case the machine goes a little wacky and sprays water on the audience. You can have Zaney and Imani standing behind the invention spraying water. Adults in the audience, counselors/teachers/etc. could be equipped prior to the presentation with small water squirters to squirt the audience when it s time. They don t actually have to do what they say they do, they just have to have working parts that you can imitate that they do what they say they can do. It should be able to contain a fog machine that you can turn on and it comes out of the machine. A little and then a lot. Lightning bolts are a good decoration for this one! 10
