Keep it lit indefinitely until we are assured that we can keep our religious freedom. This will be a peaceful sign to our government leaders and everyone in our communities that we are standing together and calling for our religious freedom to be protected. Wouldn t it be great if such a national movement for religious freedom began right in our area? As the lyrics to the classic Peter, Paul, and Mary song read: Light one candle for all we believe in. and light one candle to bind us together I am not a high-tech person so I ask anyone who reads this to please help get the word out across the nation via the Internet, Twitter, Facebook, other newspapers, via posting fliers, church bulletins, and the like. Please help me spread the word across the nation. As the lyrics also say: Don t let the light go out! Thank you! Linda Norton NEW PARISHIONERS Welcome! Ender s Island, Mystic Stations of the Cross and Fish Fry Dinner Lenten Fridays beginning on February 15 from 5 PM to 8 PM Stations of the Cross during Lent are important for Christians observing this special season of prayer and preparation for Easter. What began at Ender s Island as a small gathering of people praying and sharing a meatless meal has blossomed into a "full house" each Friday evening during Lent. Folks gather in The Chapel of Our Lady of the Assumption to pray and meditate on the Stations of the Cross and then make their way to Ender s House for Fish and Chips. This dinner has become so popular that there are now two separate seatings for the Fish Fry, one before the Stations of the Cross at 5 PM and the other at 6:30 PM. Stations of the Cross begin at 6 PM. For more information, please call 860-536-0565. The Westerly College Club Presents The Burn Palace by local author Stephen Dobyns Wednesday, February 13, at 1 PM in the Saint Clare Parish Center Come and hear this distinguished author/poet speak on his novel, set in the Charlestown area. This thriller has garnered pre-publication accolades and has been called authentically great by genre master Stephen King, who not only described it as by turns terrifying, sweet and crazily funny, but also exclaimed that he loved it. This meeting is open to the public at no charge. Monthly Church Cleaning Friday, February 8 following the 8 AM Mass.

Be sure to bring a bag lunch; coffee will be available. Nonviolence for Daily Living Tuesdays beginning February 19 at 8:30 AM and 7 PM in the St. Clare Parish Center Living nonviolently means more than merely refraining from physical violence or even harsh language. It is a disposition of the heart, a habit of the mind, an act of the will that is acquired by constant prayer and practice. It begins with each of us, in our relationships, families, workplaces, parishes and communities. The goal of living nonviolently is to put on the mind of Christ and thereby become more like Jesus in all that we think, say, and do. Nonviolence for Daily Living is a four-session course rooted in the approach pioneered by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Participants will learn about the types and levels of conflict that lead to violence; explore the six principles of nonviolence; and apply the six steps of nonviolence to real situations in daily life. Discussions will be led by Frank Thacker and Mark Gordon. Nonviolence for Daily Living emphasizes personal interaction and group dynamics rather than formal, lecture-based teaching. Participants are encouraged to attend all four sessions.
