Prayer Diary 2017-2018

WLM Prayer Diary 2017-2018 The West London Mission (WLM) is a Circuit of the Methodist Church. It has two city-centre churches at Hinde Street in Marylebone and King s Cross, and two areas of mission which are priorities for the churches and circuit. Each of the churches engages in worship, learning and caring, service, and evangelism, in ways that reflect Methodist tradition and their distinctive identity, history and context. WLM runs a wide range of services for people affected by homelessness, addictions and poverty, employing seventy professional staff in eight different residential and community services across London. WLM also works with student and young adults, at Methodist Chaplaincy House, a student community at King s Cross, and in both churches. All this work is an expression of our historic roots and our inclusive Christian ethos. We continue to explore the possibility of a circuit project which will aim to support church members in their workplaces. Loving God, whose will, revealed in Jesus, is that people should know life in all its fullness, direct and sustain the West London Mission, as it seeks to live in your grace, share your love and make your way known. Amen Day 1 The West London Mission Give thanks for all who have been faithful stewards of the WLM s work and vision for the past 130 years, and who contribute to our life, mission and witness today. Pray that we might be faithful to our calling to respond to the transforming Gospel of God s love in Christ and to witness to it through our life and work. Day 2 Life and witness of King s Cross Methodist Church Give thanks for the diversity of the church and pray for the four congregations Cantonese, Mandarin, International, and British Born Chinese - that make up the church in its 50th year. Pray for the team seeking to redevelop the building and for the planning process. Pray for the creativity among the stewards and lay leaders as they work together to meet the needs of the different groups in the church, the Chinese and local communities. Pray for the appointment of a Youth Pastor and the Next Generation Ministry. Pray that the pastoral team and their families, and Sue the administrator, will receive support and encouragement from the wider church. Day 3 Life and witness of Hinde Street Methodist Church Give thanks for the 2017 Being a Methodist classes, and space to speak about spirituality and faith. Pray for those confirmed and received into membership in September 2017, and those for whom this was not the right time to make that commitment. Give thanks for the Seasons of my Soul groups, having conversations together about the second half of life. Pray that our commitment to be Inclusive Church will be embedded in all our groups, classes, committees and activities. Pray for Miriam in her new role a full-time Community Worker at Hinde Street as she continues to work with students and young adults, with the new responsibility for helping to build up faithful and fruitful teams of volunteers in the Night Shelter and Wednesday Club. James 2.26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead. Pray for passion, sensitivity and thoughtfulness as we explore new ways of seeking to grow through sharing God s love with the wider community. Day 4 The circuit staff team Give thanks for our unity and diversity. Pray for the ministers - Sue, Kong Ching, Linda, Val, James, David, and Daniel. Pray for Sue as she engages with the stationing process in the Autumn of 2017 and prepares to leave WLM. And pray for Val, Linda and James as they discern the future for their ministries during the year ahead. Pray for the Lay Workers - Cheng Cheng, Miriam, and Ya Qin. Day 5 Burgess Park House (Formerly Big House: Camberwell) Give thanks for the partnerships we have developed with The Royal British Legion, SSAFA, Veteran s Aid and STOLL- other agencies that support our work with homeless ex-service people. Give thanks for the donations and support the service receives locally. Pray for the residents moving from homelessness to their own accommodation. Pray that there will be opportunities for residents to find training, work and volunteering. Pray for the work of Jamie, the manager, the staff team and volunteers. Day 6 Hinde Street Communities Give thanks for our two communities at 19 Thayer Street and 16a Hinde Street. Pray that these groups of people in their 20s and 30s may be embedded in the life of the church, and bring blessings to all of us. Give thanks for the Wednesday prayer breakfast, for Monday community nights, and for the wonderful hospitality the communities offer to us all. Pray that as old members leave, and new members apply to join us, we may be alert to the work of God in growing new community. 01

Day 7 Romans 12.9, 18 Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good. If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Highbury Counselling Centre Give thanks for the work of the volunteer counsellors at HCC, who continue to offer a valuable and high quality service to the local community. Pray that enough resources will be available to both HCC and to Mental Health Services throughout London. Pray that HCC remains accessible to new clients, and that training therapists will continue to offer their time as counsellors in order to meet increasing numbers of clients. Pray for the work of the HCC staff team, senior administrator - Becky, supervisors - Alistair, Panos, Sharon, and Stephen, and clinical coordinator - Kalli. Pray for residents who have moved on, for those who are suffering from ill health, and remember with gratitude the lives of those who have passed away. Pray that new residents will settle in and benefit from the skilled services offered. Pray for the manager, Sei, and the staff team and volunteers, in the continued evolvement of the service.
