THE SECOND EPISTLE GENERAL OF PETER

Haste By Mitchell Kuhn Isa 28:16 (NKJV) Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily. Rom 1:20 (KJV) For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 1Co 15:46 (KJV) Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. Christs parables all used examples from daily life. Jas 5:7 (NKJV) Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. If you want to understand something said in the bible, study the physical example given. - Chart reference: https://www.starkbros.com/growingguide/article/how-many-years

The Lord has taught the people of the world many lessons that we have yet to learn. This is shameful and should motivate us to be zealous and overcome quickly. Said another way, the Gentiles are saved to provoke the Jews into obedience. Luk 16:8 (KJV) And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. Some people in the world know we have a problem with being in a hurry In Praise of Slowness Ted Talk o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhxihj8vfuk Slow movement, slow food, slow work, natural health, digestion If you want to overcome haste, pay attention to your words. They will reveal what is in your heart and you can then focus on dealing with those issues. Jas 3:2 (NKJV) For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. Luk 6:45 (NKJV) A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Mat 12:36 (NKJV) But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. Mat 12:37 (NKJV) For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." What happens when we are hasty and don t have patience? Pro 20:21 (NKJV) An inheritance gained hastily at the beginning Will not be blessed at the end.

Luk 15:12 (NKJV) And the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.' So he divided to them his livelihood. Luk 15:13 (NKJV) And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. We are hasty when we do not wait on the Lord. Psa 27:14 (NKJV) Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD! Isa 40:31 (NKJV) But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. 1Jn 5:3 (NKJV) For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. Saul did not wait on the Lord, just as our old man will not wait on the Lord, and suffered the consequences. 1Sa 13:5 (NKJV) Then the Philistines gathered together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the seashore in multitude. And they came up and encamped in Michmash, to the east of Beth Aven. 1Sa 13:6 (NKJV) When the men of Israel saw that they were in danger (for the people were distressed), then the people hid in caves, in thickets, in rocks, in holes, and in pits. 1Sa 13:8 (NKJV) Then he waited seven days, according to the time set by Samuel. But Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. 1Sa 13:9 (NKJV) So Saul said, "Bring a burnt offering and peace offerings here to me." And he offered the burnt offering. 1Sa 13:10 (NKJV) Now it happened, as soon as he had finished presenting the burnt offering, that Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might greet him.

1Sa 13:11 (NKJV) And Samuel said, "What have you done?" Saul said, "When I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that you did not come within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered together at Michmash, 1Sa 13:12 (NKJV) then I said, 'The Philistines will now come down on me at Gilgal, and I have not made supplication to the LORD.' Therefore I felt compelled, and offered a burnt offering." 1Sa 13:13 (NKJV) And Samuel said to Saul, "You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God, which He commanded you. For now the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. 1Sa 13:14 (NKJV) But now your kingdom shall not continue. The LORD has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you." This is an occasion sought to show that the old man within us represented by Saul does not wait on the Lord. When we act in haste, not waiting on the Lord, our house is built on the sand because we are not seeking first the kingdom. Seeking first the Kingdom is acting in faith and without faith it is impossible to please God (Heb 11:6). Mat 7:24 (NKJV) "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: Mat 7:25 (NKJV) and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. Mat 7:26 (NKJV) "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: Mat 7:27 (NKJV) and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall." There is a tremendous temptation to envy the wicked, who prosper in the physical before the righteous.

Psa 73:2 (NKJV) But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled; My steps had nearly slipped. Psa 73:3 (NKJV) For I was envious of the boastful, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked. Psa 73:16 (NKJV) When I thought how to understand this, It was too painful for me Psa 73:17 (NKJV) Until I went into the sanctuary of God; Then I understood their end. Psa 73:18 (NKJV) Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to destruction. Psa 73:19 (NKJV) Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors. Here are a list of specific ways that we make haste and the corresponding scriptural admonitions. Judging before the time 1Co 4:5 (NKJV) Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one's praise will come from God. Mat 13:27 (NKJV) So the servants of the owner came and said to him, 'Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?' Mat 13:28 (NKJV) He said to them, 'An enemy has done this.' The servants said to him, 'Do you want us then to go and gather them up?' Mat 13:29 (NKJV) But he said, 'No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. Mat 13:30 (NKJV) Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, "First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn." ' " Having fear of man (our old man) which causes us to murmur and lack faith Exo 14:10 (NKJV) And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid, and the children of Israel cried out to the LORD.

Exo 14:11 (NKJV) Then they said to Moses, "Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt? Exo 14:12 (NKJV) Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, 'Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians'? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness." Exo 14:13 (NKJV) And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. Exo 14:14 (NKJV) The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace." Speaking evil of what we do not understand Jud 1:10 (NKJV) But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves. Ecc 5:1 (NKJV) Walk prudently when you go to the house of God; and draw near to hear rather than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil. Ecc 5:2 (NKJV) Do not be rash with your mouth, And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; Therefore let your words be few. Speaking evil of what we do not understand is speaking evil of God and His work that He is doing. Remember who you are speaking evil of, GOD! Tit 3:1 (NKJV) Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, Tit 3:2 (NKJV) to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. Tit 3:3 (NKJV) For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.

Seeking our own glory Pro 25:27 (NKJV) It is not good to eat much honey; So to seek one's own glory is not glory. Pro 27:2 (NKJV) Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips. Luk 14:8 (NKJV) "When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in the best place, lest one more honorable than you be invited by him; Luk 14:9 (NKJV) and he who invited you and him come and say to you, 'Give place to this man,' and then you begin with shame to take the lowest place. Luk 14:10 (NKJV) But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you, 'Friend, go up higher.' Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you. Luk 14:11 (NKJV) For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." Waiting for others to see fruit in our life and praise us for this helps us to think of ourselves soberly. Rom 12:3 (NKJV) For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. Know that God will cause others to praise us and call us up to the high seat when the time is right. Hastening to be rich Pro 23:4 (NKJV) Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease!

1Ti 6:6 (NKJV) Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 1Ti 6:7 (NKJV) For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 1Ti 6:8 (NKJV) And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 1Ti 6:9 (NKJV) But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 1Ti 6:10 (NKJV) For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. Ecc 12:11 (NKJV) The words of the wise are like goads, and the words of scholars are like well-driven nails, given by one Shepherd. Ecc 12:12 (NKJV) And further, my son, be admonished by these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is wearisome to the flesh. Knowledge is also a type of riches. 2Ti 2:15 (KJV) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Not counting the cost: Haste/ hurry leads to over commitment and reputation for not keeping our word Luk 14:28 (NKJV) For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it Luk 14:29 (NKJV) lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, Luk 14:30 (NKJV) saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to finish.' Luk 14:31 (NKJV) Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? Luk 14:32 (NKJV) Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace.

Luk 14:33 (NKJV) So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple. Always remember that God s timing is not our timing. He does everything at the perfect speed, whether we like that or not. 2Pe 3:8 (ESV) But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2Pe 3:9 (ESV) The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. Exo 23:28 (ESV) And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites from before you. Exo 23:29 (ESV) I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the wild beasts multiply against you. Exo 23:30 (ESV) Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and possess the land. We have to grow into our inheritance so we can steward it well. Positive application of Haste Psa 22:19 (NKJV) But You, O LORD, do not be far from Me; O My Strength, hasten to help Me! Jas 1:19 (NKJV) So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; Ecc 8:11 (NKJV) Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

How do we overcome Haste? 2Pe 1:5 (KJV) And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 2Pe 1:6 (KJV) And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 2Pe 1:7 (KJV) And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 2Pe 1:8 (KJV) For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2Pe 1:9 (KJV) But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 2Pe 1:10 (KJV) Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall 2Pe 1:11 (KJV) For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The scriptures us teach us how to become good trees that bear much fruit. It is a detailed process that takes much faith, patience, and diligence. Patience is the opposite of making haste, and faith is the foundation of patience. http://tryingthespirits.com/2014-01/patience-3/ http://tryingthespirits.com/2016-02/hope-and-patience/ When we are patient and full of faith, these promises come true: Deu 28:12 (NKJV) The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. Deu 28:13 (NKJV) And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.
